guys and even my host family who I had the pleasure to stay with while I was there.”

What advice would you give to future Scrappers players making their way through the minor league system? “ A lot of it just comes down to the discipline and habits that they can create day in and day out. I know myself, I was coming from college, but really I’ve never experienced something like that, especially on the professional circuit. So there are going to be a lot of times where your personal discipline comes into play. So, the sooner you are able to practice those good habits Greg Allen and be disciplined with the things you need to be, the better off you’ll 2014 Scrapper be.” What was your most Where were you and what was memorable part about playing your reaction when you got at Eastwood Field and for the the call for your MLB debut? Scrappers? “I was actually with our Double “Just being with the guys, having a A team. We were just on our back chance to experience professional end of a road trip in Harrisburg, ball for the first time with a lot of Pennsylvania about to head back the guys who will be doing the home for our last home series same. So taking that all in, being of the year, and our season was able to travel from city to city, coming to a close. Shortly after playing in different places against our game there, I was brought to different teams. All in all with it the manager’s office, and that’s being my first experience it was when he informed me that I would just definitely a memorable time, be joining the team in Detroit, and something I take with me and within 24 hours I was on a Major keep in touch with a lot of those 20th Season Commemorative Program 3 20 SEASONS OF MAKING Memories League field playing in a game. So, a pretty quick turnaround, but obviously one of the greatest moments of my professional baseball career.”

Who did you stay with when you were here and do you still keep in contact? “It was Moe and Chuck Wern. I know that they have been doing it for quite some time, and like I said I still keep in touch. They congratulated me when I had my call up. Moe keeps in touch and has been following my career since my time in Mahoning. It’s been a special connection, a special bond and I can’t thank the Wern’s enough for everything that they Ryan Merritt did for me, especially while I was in Mahoning.” 2012 Scrapper What do you remember most about playing at Eastwood Field and living in the Valley? “I would say just the fans all together. It’s kind of got a small town feel, and that’s kind of what I like cause that is what I am used to back home. So man, day in and day out those fans treat you so good.”

What advice would you give to guys currently playing in the Valley? “Go out there and learn as much as you can. Stay positive through every single thing. (cont’d pg. 7) 4 20th Season Commemorative Program MAKING the official electricians of the Scrappers

Embrace the fans and enjoy that time while you are there. It is a fun place to be.”

Where were you and what was the feeling like when you got your call for your MLB debut? “We were in Louisville, Kentucky and our coach called me in and told me that I was going to go up there. It’s excitement, nerves. Just all of these emotions run through you, but it is that first call you get, it’s hard to explain.”

How was your experience with your host family? “One of the best guys that I’ve ever met, he took me in like his own child. It was me and a guy named Luis Encarnacion. He treated us with the most respect and his kids treated us with respect. That whole year with him, he took us in José Ramírez like we were his kids.” 2012 Scrapper

What do you remember most about playing at Eastwood Field and for the Scrappers? “What I remember really well is the fan support we had there. They had some really great fans there. What I also remember is all of the really great teammates that I had, and there were a lot of great guys on the team.”

That is probably one of the things I remember the most is that it felt like family. It felt like home.”

What advice would you give to guys currently playing in the Valley? “Be yourself. Understand who you are as a player. Know who you are as a player and figure that out quickly. Try to make the best of yourself. Don’t try to be anybody you’re not. Don’t try to change the person you are or the player you are. Just try to redefine that player and just try to make the best out of that player that you possibly can.”

Where were you and what was the feeling like when you got your call for your MLB debut? “Oh yeah, I remember. I was in Columbus and my mom, dad, and little cousin were actually in Columbus with me when they came to watch me pitch there. So, it was pretty cool. Lee May came and got me. I was actually in the shower. He said that I couldn’t tell anybody, but you will be pitching on Tuesday against the Yankees. I didn’t really expect it at the time, but it kind of caught me off guard. It was a special moment for me because I was able to get in the car and go tell mom and dad personally instead of having to call them. They actually drove me up to Cleveland. It was probably one of the best experiences I’ve probably had in my life.” Bradley Zimmer 2014 Scrapper

What’s a memorable moment you had while with the Scrappers? “I think I hit one of my farthest homeruns of my career there over the batting cage. It was just a fun time. It was my first professional experience, getting to meet new guys and playing with Latin players for the first time. And also, having that professional atmosphere. So, I had a blast while I was there.”

Kate Walsh Director of Game Operations “I have only been with the Scrappers for 4 years, but even so, it’s hard to pick just one memory. I enjoy meeting all the fans, creating relationships and making memorable moments for not only me, but for all of our season ticket holders, host families and sponsors. If I had to pick one game that has made a lasting impression, it would have to be the 2015 Star Wars Night. We had an AMAZING crowd and my family was in town for the game. We were so busy that I saw zero at bats and spent zero time with my family. The crowd was loud and loved our longest fireworks show in recent years. I am already looking forward to our 2019 season and beyond.”
