THE RACE FOR LIKES

BOOKS THAT SHINE THE LIGHT ON ANXIETY

REDUCE FINE LINES AND WRINKLES WITHOUT BOTOX DRIVEN BY PURPOSE SHRINKHALA KHATIWADA

TA PromiseRIV EforN LifeI

Time - as we measure it – flows seamlessly, each second, minute, hour merging into an endless cycle of day and night. The skies, the clouds, the sun, the stars, the oceans and rivers, the forests and the animals in an unconcerned rhythmic flow of life make me question why am I calculating time… And every time I measure time in pensive mood, I go back to a quote from the book called ‘The Time Keeper’ which says: “Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week. There is a clock on your wall or the dashboard of your car. You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for dinner or a movie. Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures. A fear of time running out” …And when I read this, I know without doubt that were I given the choice to live forever, I would not take it. After all it is the limited time that we have that makes life so precious. The pandemic has deeply unveiled to us the fragility of life. Many of us have lost people we loved and had known. Many of us are filled with grief and uncertainty. Many are struggling to understand the meaning and true purpose of our existence. Some of us may be even questioning the futility of how we lived before. Many of us have got a greater understanding of our lives interconnectedness. Many of us are making those small changes that now make our life more meaningful and appreciative of the things that are truly important. And unfortunately some of us have lost the connection with our inner being, find it difficult to cope with the changed circumstances of our lives, live in constant fear of falling ill, losing a loved one or losing our livelihoods… yes, these fears are real but the reality is also that they must be faced as best possible. And it’s also true that this point in time is where we must come together to become each other’s strength, to give what we can, where we can, when we can for this is how humanity can truly survive. And as difficult and testing this crisis is, we must be deeply thankful to be alive and to have the opportunity to create second chances, just to be able to breathe, and be in the wondrous journey called life. As The Time Keeper says: “Man wants to own his existence. But no one owns time. When you are measuring life, you are not living it”.

What were you like as a child and did you always aspire to become Miss Nepal? I was not always inspired to become a Miss Nepal. However I was always drawn towards the pageant and as a young girl I remember sitting in front of the TV and answering the final questions as I watched it live. But I never felt confident enough or capable to win a title. As I grew up I developed confidence and once I felt very ready that I might even have a shot at winning the title, that was the point I actually decided to go for it. As a young girl, I was pretty social. I could gel with people easily and I feel like communication is my strongest aspect. I could communicate with people of any age. I was mature for my age, had a good understanding and I could listen to people. Apart from that I was very quiet. I wasn’t a troublemaker.

Why didn’t you choose acting and modelling as the next step after the pageant? There must have been plenty of opportunities. I think that people should do things that they are interested in. And for can’t excel at. Honestly, I for the products I would keep on changing just like some reason I never found didn’t receive a lot of acting not endorse it. SHOULDER SOLDIER Nothing is more alluring than a woman with a good head on her shoulders... and a good shoulder on her outfit. As the strong- shoulder trend continues to be a rage, it is even more exaggerated this year, so don’t be afraid to go to town. Pick a padded or sculpted option to emit an effortless power- dressing vibe, or a billowy, voluminous one to spell whimsical playfulness. All else in between works just as well, too.

IN THE PEAK OF PINK Those who love shades of rose will have a field year this year as the colour is being highlighted on SS21 runways like never before. That is not to say this season’s pinks aren’t fairytale-fantastical— they are!—but that it is also a lot more fun...and fierce. Frothy, tiered, bubblegum-pink gowns, presented with combat boots that you can go to the ball or grocery-shopping in; or shiny, metallic-pink floor-sweeping dresses. First, I wear a PPE kit whenever I go out and follow every protective measure. Secondly, diet plan with a colourful mix of fruits and vegetables as well as grains and proteins to strengthen the immunity of children. Lastly, children face additional challenges to understand, absorb, and deal with the changes that COVID-19 are bringing to our world. Being very keen observers of people and environments, children notice, absorb and react to the stress in their caregivers and community members, which unavoidably affect their well-being. We regularly organise group activities at home to facilitate a space where children are listened to, they can express their thoughts and feelings, and are free to ask any question and are answered honestly.

he pandemic has been difficult on everyone including parents and children.T I personally like to look at the brighter side of things, especially when it concerns my daughter. Therefore, being able to closely monitor her daily activities, her eating habits, her TV time, her playtime and staying by her side telling stories has only been possible because we are home 24/7 right now. The challenge is to keep up with her energy and to keep her as engaged as we can. A best practice during the pandemic would be to keep their schedule disciplined so that they have a sense of normalcy. Spending time outdoors if possible, involving her in home activities like cooking or cleaning as a part of her routine also allows us some engaging learnings. My only fear was that her social skills might be limited but I guess that’s the best for now since we are living in a socially distant world and our kids will adapt well when the world recovers.

We also follow a routine to keep the child engaged. We take her for short walks at a nearby park. The controlled exploration outside the house has been a key to mental clarity for us. Keeping the baby healthy is my top concern. After all, babies don’t have fully developed immune systems yet and can be vulnerable to viruses and infections. All in all, it’s been a great family bonding time for us. I also wash the baby’s hands with Reetha and warm water which helps.

My daughter is attending her classes online and the rest of the hours, she is either watching TV or playing games on the mobile phone. My daughter sometimes asks me if we can go out of the house but I have to remind her of the situation outside and reassure her that the pandemic will soon be over. I and my daughter were diagnosed Covid positive which completely restricted visits from her friends in the neighbourhood. We both recovered from the virus but my daughter finds it difficult to stay inside all day long. ids with autism may not know what is going on, or might not be able to express their fears and Kfrustrations. So it's important to talk to your child about Covid 19 in a way that's simple to understand. Be clear, direct, and honest. Then, explain that many children are attending school from home, some parents may work from home, and some activities and family trips will be put on hold. Kids with autism may need extra support to understand what's going on around them, and what's expected of them in some situations. Routines are comforting for kids with autism, so do your best to keep as many of them as you can. Stick to regular bed and wake-up times, meal and snack times, screen time, chores, and other household routines. But build in new routines to include school work, breaks, and exercise. Visual schedules and to-do lists can help kids know what to expect, while timers and two- minute warnings can help with transitions. Having a set routine will help lower the anxiety that can happen when things change.

While the younger kids with autism have lost their golden period to learn to communicate, we at Autism Care Nepal are giving parent training sessions on zoom classes. This way the parents are gradually learning to help the child adjust with the situation.

s a parent, you want to do everything you can to protect your children from Athe Covid 19 infection. From running the household, working from home, managing strained finances and keeping up with the virtual school of children, the pandemic has brought parents to new challenges. Children also have sacrificed much during this pandemic; their friends at school, family gatherings, outings and travel. Restriction on these activities is taking a serious toll on the mental wellbeing of parents as well as of children. While it may be a lot to navigate the changes brought by the pandemic, we have to go easy on ourselves. Some of these tips would help to keep your family happy: • Model calmness on your children even if it means faking it • Be honest to them but do not tell them more than they need to know • As there is no substitute for one-on-one physical interaction, talking, touching, singing can keep children stimulated • Establish a flexible healthy routine and be consistent • Digital study and screen time has its ups and downs but also understand that this is not the time to demonise screens • Outdoor time in the garden or terrace is an antidote to screens

During the lockdown, on individual level, one of the most notable impacts was on psychological health. Quarantine, social isolation, and travel restrictions have negatively impacted the mental health of people who have Covid 19 and their families. A few preliminary studies have shown psychological issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia among the general population as well as in frontline health workers.
