Launched on December 1st 2007, Keldabe Talk Radio discusses all things Mandalorian and Man- dalorian Mercs related. With a dedicated team made up of Mercs members, the show airs once a month and is ready to tackle the hot topics regarding Star Wars. FIND US ON THE MERCS welcome Almost six years ago, a few friends who enjoyed a rather obscure part of Star Wars decided to gather at a small convention to make an idea come to life. An idea that would become the Mandalorian Mercs Costume Club, a global organization dedicated to costuming as Mandalorians from Star Wars. I’d like to personally thank you for taking the time to read the inaugural issue of Battle Cry, the first publication from the Mercs. Inside you will find news from Mando Mercs clans around the world, learn costuming techniques, as well as learn about Man- dalorians and what it means to be part of the Mandalorian Mercs organization. We’ve put together a great newsletter for you, and hopefully you will enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy making it. None of us knew where we would go in the beginning, but we’ve all worked extraordinarily hard to make Mandalorian Mercs the respected and fun organization it is today. You too can become part of our family, no matter where you live in the world. Our motto in the Mercs is “We brothers and sisters, stand as one!” and I encourage you to stand with us and create your own Mandalo- rian character. Mandalorian Mercs Battle Cry2 My MandalorianYOUR AMAZING Moment TALES AND ADVENTURES Westerville, Ohio, USA The Rebel Legion, 501st, and Mandalorian Mercs had been asked to attend a sur- prise birthday party for a little boy with stage four Osteosarcoma (cancer). He was having a sleep over party with his friends at a local church and, after they finished watching The Clone Wars, we walked in. He had the biggest smile on his face and was so excited to see us. He took pictures with us and we sang him happy birthday. He asked to get a picture with me because he liked the colors of my outfit and that it reminded him of Captain Rex, his favorite character. Sam passed away later that year and while it was saddening, I felt so honored to be able to help give him such an amazing experience for his last birthday. Taglar Dreskk - Rancor Clan Star Wars Celebration VI, Orlando, Florida I had gone to the Philadelphia Comic Con and had the chance to meet Jeremy Bulloch. I mentioned that I was working on armor for the Mercs and I hoped to become official before Celebration VI. He told me that he was sure I’d get my armor done in time and that we’d take another picture down in Florida in August. Those words sparked my drive to finish before CVI. Three months later, I was approved as an official member and I was able to get a picture with Jeremy. He remembered and congratulated me on reaching my goal. I also had kids constantly stopping me for pictures. Celebration VI was the source of a lot of very good memories and moments for me. Haran Tracyn - NJ Area Star Wars Celebration VI, Orlando, Florida Eight years ago I met Mandalore on Star Wars Galaxies. He inspired my passion for Mandalorians and inspired me to be- come something more, as well as part of the Mercs. When I got to meet him it was straight into a big Mandalorian bro hug. Getting to meet my enigmatic friend unlocked a lot of emotions for me. A sense of great accomplishment, as well as a huge relief. It was a rite of passage for me as an adult with so many friends I have gained along the way. I am proud to be a Mandalorian in Clan Talon. Jaminos Talon - Talon Clan 3 Mandalorian Mercs Battle Cry MEMBER HIGHLIGHT They say every Mandalorian is an unsung hero at some point in their lives. Every is- sue We will be finding those heroes and giving them a chance to tell you their story. This issue is the hard working clan leader of Shonare Vhekadla Clan Tassone Phoenix. How did you find out about the Mercs? I attended San Diego Comic Con back in 2008 and that was my first experience with cos- tuming. I was so impressed by all the costumes, especially the Star Wars ones. After the con, I had the urge to make my own gear. I searched the internet and found out about the various Star Wars costume clubs. After browsing the forums and finding the AZ clan, I decided that the MMCC was the club for me. What was the inspiration behind your armor? My inspiration was the great state of Arizona. I love my state and wanted to have a kit that would work with our environment. That defined my color scheme and other elements of my kit like weapons, tools, and gadgets. I also looked at the kits made by the original members of my clan. How Many Costumes do you own and what are they? I currently own two costumes. My Mando is my main one and I wear that pretty much 99% of the time. I also have a vault dweller from the Fallout video games series. I am thinking about a third costume, I want to go “Rebel” and I want to either make an X-Wing Pilot or an Endor Commando. What is the best thing about your clan? The best thing about my clan are the clan members themselves. They are some of the nicest, coolest and most skilled folks I have ever met. They come from all walks of life, different ages, dif- ferent situations, but when we come together we are one big extended family. The chemistry in the group is so welcoming and friendly. I enjoy every minute of it. What has been your favourite event and why? The Tucson Parade of Lights that was in December of 2010. Since it was during the holidays, we decorated our kits with Christmas lights and glow sticks and took part in the parade. Half the town participates in the parade so it was a big deal for everyone. This was an informal parade, so I decided to walk along the edges high fiving every kid I saw and they loved it! Their happiness made me so happy and it was so wonderful. Even though my feet hurt, to know that these kids were so delighted to shake my hand was a great feeling. I am just a person in a costume that could easily be their neighbor, but they saw me as this super hero type person. What do you like most about being a Merc? It has helped me grow as a person. Since becoming a Merc, I have experienced all sort of new things. I am constantly meting new people so I have no reason to be shy anymore. I used to only drive on surface streets in a small radius around my home and if a place was not in my comfort zone, then I did not travel there. Having meetings, events, and armor parties all over Arizona has really encouraged me to expand my driv- ing limits and now I drive on freeways and go all over my state and that is a huge deal for me. I am a proud Mando Merc and I am so honored to be part of it all.

  • Speeder Bike/Hoop Glider
Speeder Bike/Hoop Glider Objective: Make a glider and learn about the physics of flight. Can a speeder fly if it has big holes in it? Have you ever made a paper airplane? Or maybe you made a straw rocket using our instructions. Your airplane or rocket had a pointed nose, to help it be aerodynamic, or speed through the air fast, without a lot of resistance. If the nose had been open, what would have happened? Would they fly as well? This project investigates whether a glider designed with open rings can actually assist with lift. Difficulty Level: Easy (ages 8-14)/Medium (ages 6-8) Materials: ● 2 Straws ● Black permanent marker ● Clear tape ● Scissors ● Pencil ● Brown cardstock or construction paper ● Template Procedure: 1.Color your straws black with the permanent marker. Be careful not to get it on your hands. You may need to use a paper towel to help. 2. Cut the shapes for the Ewok silhouette and the front and back of the speeder bike from the template. Use black for the silhouette and brown for the speeder bike. #ScienceWorksOnline ScienceWorksMuseum.org © 2020 3. Make a small ring or hoop shape with the smaller template cut out. Then tape it along the seam to hold it together. Do the same with the larger template cut out? Your shapes should now look like small and large paper rings. 4. Tape two straws, side by side, onto the widest part inside of the bigger hoop. 5. Fold the base of the Ewok silhouette and slide it between the two straws.

  • 1 Star Wars Miniatures: Rebel Storm Wizards of the Coast a Review by Tony Watson the New Line
Star Miniatures: “Rebel Storm” 1 Star Wars Miniatures: Rebel Storm Wizards of the Coast A Review By Tony Watson The new line of WoTC Star Wars miniatures offers gamers a mixed bag. On the one hand, the first set, “Rebel Storm”, offers decently sculpted and pre-painted plastic minis of some of the characters and troops that make up the Star Wars universe during the time of the Rebellion (Episodes IV - VI in movie terms), and some straightforward, if a bit simplistic, rules for combat on a man to man scale that allow you to get into the action relatively easily. On the other hand, there’s the whole collectibility aspect to the game, something I’ll get to in a bit more detail later on. The Miniatures – Rebel Storm, the first series of miniatures, comprises 60 figures, 20 each of Imperial, Rebel and Fringe. The latter are a kind of neutral class that can be added to either a Rebel or Imperial force, and are made up of characters like the bounty hunters from “Empire Strikes Back”, and various aliens, including an Ewok and a Wampa snow beast. The characters in this faction include Lando Jabba the Hutt and cult favorite Bobba Fett. The Imperial line includes lots of stormtroopers: three versions of the basic trooper, a snowtrooper, elite snow and stormtroopers, as well as a scout troopers on foot and a speeder bike. The named, unique characters for the Imperials include two versions of Vader, General Veers, Grand Moff Tarkin, Emperor Palpatine and Mara Jade (the set’s nod to the post movie trilogy universe).

This paper examines how information management is used specifically in Star Wars tie-in fiction and its recent transition to using knowledge management. To start, this paper looks at the history of tie-in fiction from its roots in the 1960s to the modern day, before transitioning to the role of brand managers and editors as information managers. Then, this paper documents the history of Star Wars tie-in fiction and how information management strategies were implemented through 2014 and how it impacted the franchise’s internal continuity. We’ve had many developments in the Mercs and Star Wars since last issue; Episode VII director announce- ment, ‘3D Episodes on hold’ announcement, Membership Tiers, Verd’ika Corps kids club, Celebration Europe...the list could go on. 6 years ago this March, a small website and forum was launched to bring existing Mandalorian costumers into an organized and represent- ed group among the Star Wars community. From that small handful of people, Mandalorian Mercs has become home to thousands of mem- bers and fans around the world. My goal is to ensure that your Mercs family is here for your benefit, and that our home is a fixture in the Star Wars Universe. With your help, and the tireless help of others...we’ve been able to accomplish that goal thus far.

  • 1 Preparation
PREPARATION 1 Begin by cleaning the parts of the speeder bike miniature with a hobby knife. Carefully remove any mold lines or other bits of left over plastic from the casting process. Test fit the parts to make sure they fit together flush. If they do not, carefully trim the connecting surfaces. When happy with the fit, glue the pieces of the mini together with super or plastic glue. Clean the parts for the rider and \ assemble with super glue. You may want to affix the rider to a spare piece of plastic to make priming easier in the next step. PRIMING 2 Before you start painting, you should apply a primer coat to the miniature. This is usually applied via a spray can, though there are brush-able and airbrush-able options. A primer coat will help the paint adhere to the surface of the mini and increase the durability of the paint job. Use a primer with a flat finish. Satin or gloss finishes are not recommended as they can interfere with the even application of paint. To save time, the rider\ mini is primed with a white primer while the speeder bike is primed with a “Fur Brown” primer purchased from a hobby store. BASECOATING 3 With a size 1 brush, apply even basecoats to the mini. Apply a second coat if needed for even coverage. Basecoat the undersuit, gloves, blaster, straps and underside of the speeder bike with Sith Robes. Paint the armor plates with Stormtrooper Armor. Paint the speeder bike hull with Speeder Bike Brown.
