Though his notorious drug usage had been restricted since the early 90s when he began suffering from diabetes and hypertension, he refused to completely give up drinking and smoking after the procedure. It did make him reduce his alcohol intake. He finally gave up his “daily bottle of Jack Daniel’s” habit that he’d had since the mid-70s. Still, he readily admitted he had could not completely give up alcohol and cigarettes . He called this refusal, “Dogged insolence in the face of mounting opposition to the contrary.” That phrase may well distill not only Kilmister’s life, but the entire philosophy of Rock ‘n’ Roll as well. More than two years later, just days after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, Kilmister died at about 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time in his two- bedroom apartment not far from his favorite hang-out, the Rainbow Bar & Grill, on Sunset Boulevard, where he was often enthralled in the playing of a particular video game. When Kilmister became too ill to leave his apartment, the owners of the Rainbow had the game moved to his home so he could continue to play it. It is said that Kilmister died sitting upright in a stool in front of the machine.

Heavy-metal in the 1970s was Blue Oyster Cult, Aerosmith, Kiss, AC/DC, Journey, Boston, Rush, and it was the most theatrical and brutal of rock genres. It was not easy to reconcile this genre with the anti-heroic ethos of the punk era. It could have seemed almost impossible to revive that genre, that was slowly dying, in an era that valued the exact opposite of machoism, and that was producing a louder and noisier genre, hardcore. Instead, heavy metal began its renaissance in the same years of the new wave, capitalizing on the same phenomenon of independent labels. Credit goes largely to a British contingent of bands, that realized how they could launch a "new wave of British heavy metal" during the new wave of rock music. Motorhead (1), formed by ex-Hawkwind bassist Ian "Lemmy" Kilminster, were the natural bridge between heavy metal, Stooges/MC5 and punk-rock. They played demonic, relentless rock'n'roll at supersonic speed: Iron Horse (1977), Metropolis (1979), Bomber (1979), Jailbait (1980), Iron Fist (1982), etc.

    JAMSESSION Hudební klub v Orlové FANZIN ROCK A COUNTRY - LIBUŠIN MIKULÁŠEK V předvečer Mikuláše 5. prosince 2015 se konalo v restauraci Libuše v Dětmarovicích po dlouhé době setkání muzikantů sdružených kolem bývalého Hudebního klubu v Orlové. Cestou na hudební setkání bylo možno potkat v ulicích města s vánoční výzdobou Mikuláše s čertem a andělem, což slibovalo bohatou hudební nadílku. Bohužel za ten půlrok došlo k rozpadu bluesové skupiny Ještě nijak i rockové kapely Tatapult. S hudebníky to zamíchalo a došlo ke kvalitativní přeměně kapely Z budy. Kapela nyní hraje ve složení Petr Holáň (sólová kytara), Jaromír Puhr (2. sólová kytara), Lubomír Krzystek (doprovodná kytara), Miroslav Hynar (basová kytara) a Miroslav Lazur (bicí). Tím se kapela umělecky posunula výše a přejme jí, aby vydržela do jara 2016, kdy budou probíhat Orlovské dny, na kterých by se ráda představila Orlovanům. Setkání muzikantů po 17. hodině zahájil „manager“ kapely Z budy Miroslav Křivda. Jeho způsob komentování připomíná uvádění Petrem Šiškou z kapely Legendy se vrací. Z počátku zahrála kapela Z budy, po ní nastoupila country kapela Belegro pod vedením Jiřího Frice. Belegro hraje poctivou country s příjemnými vokály. Zahrála ale jen jednu rundu, protože bubeník kapely Z budy chtěl předvést novou uměleckou výši kapely nečekané krátkodobé návštěvě.     Pressemitteilung zu John Garcia & The Band of Gold Der ehemalige Kyuss-Frontmann John Garcia kommt mit The Band of Gold am 20.10.18 ins Uebel & Gefährlich und präsentiert sein Solo-Album Hamburg, April 2018 – Die „Coyote Unplugged“-Tour im April 2017 war ein voller Erfolg, jetzt legt John Garcia nach: Der kalifornische Kultsänger und Mitbegründer des Stoner Rock kündigt neben einem neuen Album auch gleich eine dazugehörige Tour im Oktober 2018 an. Der ehemalige Frontmann von wegbereitenden Bands wie Kyuss, Slo Burn, Unida, Hermano und Vista Chino wird sein komplettes neues Solo-Album plus ein Greatest Hits- Programm in Hamburg am 20.10.18, Uebel & Gefährlich zum Besten geben. Seit über zwei Dekaden setzt John Garcias Stimme den Standard für den Stoner Rock- Sound der kalifornischen Wüste. Sein musikalisches Wirken als Genre-Gründer mit den wegbereitenden Kyuss spricht für sich, auch die Nachfolger Vista Chino, Unida, Slo Burn und Hermano haben seinen Ruf als Ausnahmesänger weiter gefestigt. Dabei ist John Garcia wirklich ein waschechter Wüstensohn: 1970 in Arizona geboren, wuchs er mit seiner allein erziehenden Mutter und zwei Geschwistern rund um Palm Springs/Kalifornien auf. Dort gründete der Doors- und Misfits-Fan Anfang der Neunziger mit Gitarrist Josh Homme (später Queens Of The Stone Age) die Band Kyuss. Mit vier Alben (u.a. der Genre-Meilenstein „Welcome To Sky Valley“, 1994) wurden sie eine der einflussreichsten Stoner Rock-Formationen. Nach dem Ende 1995 versuchte er sich an Projekten wie Slo Burn, Unida oder Hermano, stets unterstützt von einem Umfeld, das in der Alternative Rock-Szene seinesgleichen sucht. 2010 entstand aufgrund großer Nachfrage das Unternehmen ‚Garcia plays Kyuss‘, mit dem er als einziges Originalmitglied tourte.
