Various cultural programmes showcasing the diversity of India justified the event that aimed at creating cultural awareness among the people. Students in vibrant colourful dresses danced to the song “Sandeshe Aate Hai”, “Ai Mere Watan ke Logon””Vande Mataram”, “Sar pe Himalaya ka Chatra Hai” ,”Jaha Dal Dal” and “Maa Tujhe Salaam”. The chanting of the slogans of freedom fighters by the students instilled the sense of patriotism among the audience. SKMU to Introduce Five Self-financing Courses The Academic Council of SKM University at its meeting on 31/08/2017 approved a recommendation to start five new self-financing courses. These courses are Biotechnology, Physiotherapy, Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT), C Mathematics and D Ophthalmology. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SKM University Prof.(Dr.) Manoranjan Prasad Sinha who presided over the meeting said that these courses will enable the University to keep pace with the challenges and demands of the modern globalized society. The meeting was attended by Pro- Vice Chancellor Dr. S.N. Munda, “Damakta Dumka” Campaign Registrar Dr. D. Singh and other University Officials. Publication Committee Meeting A meeting of the Publication Committee of SKM University was held in the Chamber of the Vice Chancellor Prof Manoranjan Prasad Sinha on 18.08.2017. The next issue of the University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences will soon be published. Following the meeting, a notification inviting articles for it was issued. The responsibility of bringing out a separate journal for science was entrusted to the Dean, Faculty of Science. The Vice Chancellor gave clear instructions to the Publication Committee on the policy of zero tolerance of plagiarism. He further instructed the Committee to initiate the process of publication of original research monographs by faculty members of the University. “Damakta Dumka” Campaign Legal Cell Meeting Jharkhand’s sub capital, Dumka clean and beautiful.     PHASE – I : DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND CLIMATE CHANGE INITIATIVE Initiative to build capacity of stakeholders on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) in the State of Jharkhand PERIOD : OCTOBER 2016 – MAY 2017 Purpose of the Initiative • To build evidences, strengthen inclusive disaster mitigation planning at the state and district level. • To Orient and involve the communities in Jharkhand on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation. • To advocate for strengthening disaster mitigation, response and planning in Jharkhand. • To develop build and strengthen a strong platform for respective departments (Goj), Schools, PRI’s, CBO’s/NGO’s at each administrative level for emergency preparedness, Planning and Response. What did we do in Phase 01 • State Level - Disaster Sensitization (DRR and CCA) TOT of Government officials of Key Stakeholder departments for 01 day for improving planning on DRR and CCA in Jharkhand. This enabled the Key Stakeholders (Minimum 50 officials from different stakeholder department) from the state government, policy makers and development partners able to plan on DRR and CCA. • Divisional Level - Disaster Sensitization (DRR and CCA) workshops of the Key Government officials (Health, Social Welfare/ICDS, Rural Development, Urban Development, Education etc) in 05 Divisions of Jharkhand for 02 days. This facilitated the Capacity Building of Key Stakeholders at the Division Level and further incorporate the DRR and CCA interventions incorporated in PIP State Level Consultation on 22.12.2016 in the State Level Jharkhand Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction - experts from Disaster Management Department, Health Dept., Govt of Jharkhand, UNICEF, UNDP, MECON, CCL, Plan India, Save the Children amongst others were part of the panel of four core sessions which addressed resilient villages, resilient livelihood, resilient basic services, Gender Vulnerability and resilient cities to strengthen Planning and the DRR/CCA Road Map of Jharkhand.
