2009-10 Season Preview When Errol Rogers arrived at Louisiana in 2007-08 the program was transitioning into a rebuilding 08-09 STAT LEADERS Scoring Average phase. It’s been a bumpy road and the Cajuns’ 11-49 mark the past two seasons is a testament to that fact. However, UL may be approaching a breakthrough. Player G Pts. Avg./G Rogers’ third squad is his most experienced. There are a total of 11 letterwinners and the Ragin’ Alexis Green 29 454 15.7 Cajuns return over 90 percent in a majority of the statistical categories. That’s a huge difference from a Mercedes Johnson 28 340 12.1 year ago when 15 players on the original 16-person roster had one varsity letter or less. Jasmine Barnes 25 206 8.2 They have the experience factor and there were plenty of lessons learned last season. With the Whitney Dunlap 12 86 7.2 exact same team developing team chemistry shouldn’t be a problem. D'Mya Clay 30 149 5.0 The Cajuns installed a new offense last season and that led to inconsistent play and mixed results. Louisiana began to show more consistent play in the final three weeks and came close to pulling a few Rebounding Average upsets. Now more familiar with it, UL should feel more comfortable on the floor. Player G Rebs. Avg./G Headlining the list of returnees is All-Sun Belt standout and LSWA Newcomer of the Year Alexis Alexis Green 29 186 6.4 Green. Green scored double-digit points in 26 of the Ragin’ Cajuns 30 games on the year and is should Mercedes Johnson 28 136 4.9 be expected to shoulder the offensive load again in 2009-10. Jasmine Barnes 25 94 3.8 Mercedes Johnson flourished into a solid No. 2 option for the UL offense. She led the Cajuns in Amy Richard 29 109 3.8 steals and field goal percentage as a rookie. Whitney Dunlap 12 43 3.6 Jamie Gunter – who missed last season with a knee injury – was a highly regarded prospect until a preseason injury forced her to miss the 2008-09 season. She could be the “X” factor. Assists Like their male counterparts, the UL women must settle their point guard position. The loss of Whitney Dunlap left a void from beyond the arc. Green will hit her share of triples, but Player G Assts. Avg./G Louisiana needs another threat to emerge. Alexis Green 29 58 2.0 Rebounding could still be a problem. UL lacked a strong post game and unfortunately Rogers was Jasmine Barnes 25 35 1.4 unable to add any help in the offseason. Errol Rogers Louisiana, 1995 Third Season

Head coach Errol Rogers will enter his third season at the helm of Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball program when the 2009-10 season tips off.

Rogers was named the 11th head women’s basketball coach in school history on May 2, 2007.

Rogers’ eight wins in his rookie season tied him for the most by a first-year wom- en’s head coach at UL since 1988.

He helped seniors Onna Charles and Sonora Edwards both top 1,000 career points in their final campaign.

Rogers also tutored the rise of Alicia McDaniel (2005-08). McDaniel finished her career as only the second player (Kim Perrot, 1987-90) in UL women’s basketball history to post at least 750 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists and 150 steals in a career.

The Louisiana graduate spent the previous four seasons as an assistant coach at Mississippi State with his prima- ry responsibilities including on-court teaching and assisting with recruiting. The Bulldogs enjoyed a 12-win turn- around last season and advanced to the WNIT quarterfinals - their second WNIT trip in the last three seasons.

Rogers’ collegiate experience also includes four years as an assistant coach at Bethune-Cookman College from 1999-2003 where he was in charge of developing game strategies, conditioning and training, recruiting, and ar- ranging travel and lodging accommodations. BCC enjoyed back-to-back winning seasons in his final two years, marking the best two campaigns for the Wildcats in the past decade.

“I’m very pleased to bring a coach to our University that was born in Louisiana, graduated from Louisiana-Lafayette and has coaching ties to the state,” said athletics director David Walker.

“His recruiting abilities are very well known and I expect our program’s recent success to continue. He came highly recommended by some very well respected and prestigious college coaches.”
