Basheer Ahamed 118/220A, Sirumugai Road Mettupalayam, Coimbatore District-641 301 Public Authority: The Public Information Officer Office of the Panchayat Union Karamadai, Coimbatore District ++++ In this case, enquiry was held on 3-6-2009 in which the petitioner Thiru M.Y. Basheer Ahamed and the Public Information Officer, Tmt S. Ranjitham, Block Development Officer (BDO), Karamadai, Coimbatore District were present. 2. The Petitioner has made a complaint to the Commission on 14-8-2008 stating that the information asked for about the contradictions and the factual errors in the reply furnished by the PIO were not supplied. The main contradiction was that the BDO, Karamadai in his letter e.f.v©. 3586-2000-M1 , dated 2-4-02 has stated that he has sent a report to the District Collector on 2-4-2002 enclosing estimates dated 1-10-2002 which is six months later to the date of the letter. Subsequently, the PIO has sent another letter stating that the proposals were sent to the District Collector on 2-4-2002 enclosing the estimate dated 10-3-2003 which is 11 months later to the date of the letter. The yet another information which is contradictory is that BDO, Karamadi, has stated that the letter has been sent to the District Collector in his reference e.f. v©. 3586/2002/m1, dated 2-6-2002, whereas the District Collector has replied in his letter No.e.f.v©.3436/01/Ï3, dated 8-8-2002 stating that the BDO, Karamadai has not sent any proposal dated 2-6-2002. Therefore, it is clear that the BDO, Karamadai has given incorrect, misleading and contradictory information. Therefore, the BDO, Karamadai is directed to show cause as to why the penal provisions of the Act should not be invoked against him. The explanation should be received in this Office within 15 days from the date of receipt of this order. If explanation is not received, further action will be taken to order penalty under the Act. Diversity of Ants in Karamadai Region of Mettupalayam, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India

Lekeshmanaswamy Department of Zoology, Kongunadu Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Coimbatore-641 029, Tamil Nadu, India Abstract The present study deals with the diversity of ants in Karamadi region of Coimbatore, india. Ants were collected from different sited of karamadi region with the help of trapping, brush method and hand picking method. Twenty three species were identified among the 4 subfamilies reported were subfamily Formicinae was dominated with 10 species followed by Myrmicinae with 9 species, Dolichoderinae and Pseudomyrmicinae with 2 species each. Ant diversity is less in karmadi region compared with Periyanaickenpalayam region. Keywords: Ants, karamadi, Diversity. Introduction Biodiversity conservation and management are of worldwide concerns. Ant is one of the most diverse and ubiquitous groups of the social insect. Ant belongs to a single large family Formicidae, largest of order Hymenoptera. It is represented by 26 extant subfamilies with 14,711 valid species and 428 valid genera [1]; out of these, 152 species are listed by IUCN and from India, 10 subfamilies are represented by 100 genera with 828 species. In India, Himalaya and the Western Ghats harbor a large number of ant species, 656 species from 88 genera were recorded from Himalaya, and 455 species from 75 genera were recorded from the Western Ghats, especially in Tamil Nadu, 184 species from 51 genera were recorded [2, 3]. They can serve as model organisms for exploring the nature and dynamics of ecological communities due to the ease with which they can be sampled and the potential for experimental manipulation [2, 3].
