Totally 84 species of this family, in which in¢ Iuded 22 new forms, were found in Amami Islands, all of which were referred and figured in his papers.

Descriptions of species

Genus Blainville, 1828.

Subgenus Inilforis Jousseaume, 1884.

Shell large, thin, subulate, conical, tapering to the summit, not

narrowed at the base. Protoconch lacked, mature whorls 14 or more,

suture distinct but not deep and encircled by an extremely fine supra-

sutural thread. Sculpture consists of 2 rows of granules, lower row twice

as large as the upper one, moreover a fine wavy smooth spiral cord

encircles between tvvo rows of granules of each whorl. Upper granules

somewhat lentiform and connected by a spiral keel; Iower one large,

round and beaded by a rather broad spiral keel, parts from each ether by

about its diameter and 11 to a whorl. Interspaces semitransparent and have

numerous minute spiral striae and growth lines with no axial colutnns.

Body whorl has 3 extra smooth spiral keels on the periphery and the base,

outer lip of aperture extended, anterior canal tubular and rugated, pos-

terior canal retained as a hole. Colouration pure white or slightly tinged

with pale yellow and glossy, columellar column and anterior canal stained

with dark reddish brown.

Holetype: (Mo. 13077) preserved in the National Science Museum, Tokyo.

Remainder shell length: IOmm.

Type locality: Naze City, Amami Island.

Remarks: This species is easily distinguished by its large size and

colouration, and somewhat likes T. Iifzaana (Hervier), though differs in

its broad conical shape, and also differs from T. mirifica (Deshayes) and

T. cornztta (Hervier) in its sculpture and colouration. This was collected

by Dr. Kin-ichi Sakurai and dedicated to his wife.

elongate cylindrical below the median spire. Protoconch extremely charac-

teristic as a mammillate and smooth single whorl. Mature whorls 12,

suture not so defined as a shallow and narrow groove, encircled by a fine

' supra-sutural thread. Sculpture conslsts of 4 rather fine, ill-defined} smooth,

spiral costae; interspaces longitudinally grooved at intervals and finely

striated spirally. On the body whorl there are 7 spiral costae; fifth one

on the periphery the same size as the upper costae, sixth and seventh

costae on the base more slender than the others. Aperture broken, anterior

canal straight. Colouration creamy white, with sparsely scattered brownish

spots.

Shell length: 7.0mm.

Type locality: Ankyaba, Setouchi-machi, Amami Island. Remarks : This species is characterized by its peculiar 4 costal sculp- ture and mammillate protoconch, no related species having been reported in this It somewhat genus. likes TriPhora czalcptltlferus (Gould), though differs in its protoconch and sculpture of the base of body whorl. This is dedicated to Mr. Ryosuke Kawamura who is kind enough to lend materials - for study.

Shell medium in size, apex blunt, conical, somewhat inflated at the

middle of the spire and slightly narrowed at the body whorl. Protoconch

of a single whorl, mammillate and smooth. Mature whorl 9, each whorl

convex and widely separated by a rather deep grooved suture, encircled by a fine supra-sutural thread. Sculpture consists of 3 rows of granules, medjan row somewhat larger than the others at the lower spire, equal in size at the early 2 or 3 whorls and rapidly diminished at its first whorl ; each granule spirally elongate and well elevated from the crossing points

of broad axial columns and spiral costae which are deeply latticed, aparts

from each other by about its diameter and 14 to a whorl. On the body

whorl, fourth row of granules encircles the periphery, the other 2 slender,

smooth, spiral ridges the base and the anterior canal which is short and

recurved backward. Protoconch and early 2 whorls ' white, remainder dark ' reddish brown. Holotype: (Mo. 13064) preserved in the National Science Museum, Tokyo. Shell length: 6.8mm.

Type locality: Ankyaba, Setouchi-machi, Amami Island. Remarks : This species is easily distinguished by its protoconch, white

apex and spirally elongated granules. It is somewhat related to E. regalis

Jousseaume and E. isaotaleii Kosuge, though differs in its protoconch, shell shape and colour-pattern, and also differs from Alotosinister atratzas

Shell large, pupiform, stump, dome-shaped at the upper part of the

spire and moreover early few whorls protruded as a conical $pire, not

narrowed at the base. Protoconch lacked, mature whorls about 11, suture

distinct as a shallow groove and encircled by a fine supra-sutural thread. ss Sculpture consists of 3 rows of granules even'in the early whorls, upper

and lower rows large and lower one slightly larger; median row slender

and about half of lower one; each granule spirally elongate, tightly con-

nected by broad axial columns and spiral cords, forming lattices and deep hollows in their interspaces, parts from each other by about half of its diameter and 15 toa whorl. Body whorl has 5 rows of granules, both fourth and fifth rows slender and encircle the periphery and base. An-

terior canal $omewhat long, recurved backward and has a fine ridge and

rugated by growth lines. Colouration pure white, sometimes stained with pale yellow on the upper row of each whorl.

Holotype: (Mo. 13079) preserved in the National Science Museum, Tokyo.

Remainder shell length: 8.5mm.
