Osborne Brothers Osborne is an American country music duo made up of brothers T.J. Osborne (lead vocalist) and John Osborne (lead guitar, background vocals), both natives of Deale, Maryland. The duo signed for EMI Nashville and has released one own-initiative album of extended play and three studio albums: Pawn Shop, Port Saint Joe and Skeletons. Seven of their singles are on hot country songs and country airplay, the highest peak of Stay a Little Longer, which is at No. 4 at number 2 on the latter. The dua albums were produced by Jay Joyce, and consisted mostly of songs written by both brothers with a number of collaborators. Among the artists they worked with are David Nail, Dierks Bentley, Lee Ann Womack and Lucie Silvas, of which he is the last of John's wife. Dua's musical style influences southern rock, outlaw country and non-oundial state. History Members of the Osborne brothers, John and Thomas John T.J. Osborne,[3] were born and raised in Dealeu, Maryland, on the west coast of the Chesapeake Bay. The brothers took inspiration from their father's music collection, and as teenagers they starred in a local cover group called The Deuce and a Quarter. In 2000, the band represented their high school in Anne Arundel Battle of the Bands. admitted that they were nervous before the onset. [4] They then moved to Nashville and signed a publishing contract with Warner Chappell and later with the EMI subsidiary in Nashville. [2] The full names of the brothers are John Thomas and Thomas John. Their father, also called John Thomas Osborne, explained the reason for simply turning the name around because he didn't have to choose a name and be confused under pressure. When their mother, Tricia, worked with T.J. (John was about 2 years old at the time), they were captured by the Philadelphia Eagles against the Washington Redskins and suggested we should get that name. His name will be Thomas John, how about that? [5] The Osborne EP and Pawn shop Duo released their debut Let's Go There in late 2013. [6] [7] The song reached the top 40 at country airplay at the end of 2013. [8] Their second single, Rum, debuted in early 2014. She also made the Top 40 on Country Airplay, and is involved in a five-song, self-titled extended play that was released in September 2014. [10] Their third single Stay a Little Longer was released in 2015. This song was originally included on the EP, but was re-recorded for a single release. [2] [11] In 2016, it became a top 5 country airplay hit. [2] He also led to the release of their debut Pawn Shop, which was produced mostly by Jay Joyce. [2] Two more singles followed: 21 Summer and It Ain't My Fault, both of which also peaked at the country music charts. [12] At the same time as the previous one, the duo was featured on David's Good at Tonight sing-along. Both brothers wrote almost every song at Pawn Shop, with Shane McAnally, Craig Wiseman, Casey Beathard, Ross Copperman, Maren Morris and her husband Ryan Hurd and Lee Thomas Miller. Among the musicians who appeared on the album were Lee Ann Womack and John's wife,[13] Lucie Silvas. The album was produced by Jay Joyce, with the exception of the original recording of Rum and Heart Shaped Locket, produced by the brothers with Brad Hill. [14] Coinciding with the album's success, the brothers won five industry awards. Both the Country Music Academy and the Country Music Association awarded them vocal duo of the year in 2016 and 2017, the latter of which was awarded a new vocal duo in 2016. [3] Port Saint Joe and Skeletons The duo released a new single, Shoot Me Straight, in January 2018. [15] It's the main single on their second studio album, Port Saint Joe, which was released in April. [16] Joyce's album also includes many of the same collaborators as her predecessor. Between 2018 and 2019, the brothers were part of several collaborative projects. In mid-2018, they were featured in Dierks Bentley's Burning Man, a sing-off from his studio album The Mountain. [17] In 2019, the duo collaborated with Maren Morris on All My Favorite People on the second studio album Girl; [18] The brothers also joined Brooks & Dunn on their 2019 reboot, where they contributed to the 1993 re-recording of the 1993 hit Hard Workin' Man. The live album was released on October 11, 2019, during three concerts at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Feb. [20] This was followed in July 2020 by the announcement of a third studio album, Skeletons, released on 9 October 2020. The album, produced by Jay Joyce, includes songs written by his brothers, with other co-writers including Ian Fitchuk, Daniel Tashian, Natalie Hemby, Casey Beathard and Hayes Carll. All Night is the main single album. [21] Music stylist John Osborne is the band's principal instrumentalist, playing mostly electric guitar, and TJ is the lead musician. Of their sound, Spina writer Andrew Unterberger said: John's guitar glides hattori Hanzō sharpness, and TJ's vocals would not be blue-crossed with a heated vibrat, allowing them to underestimate the vulnerability that is badly lacking these days in Nashville. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, unlike himself hunt and Chris Stapleton, imajo sodoben ritmični snap nekdanjega in klasicistične strukture slednjega. April 18, 2016, Issue 495 Inside The ACMs With RAC Clark Our annual interview with Exec. Producer RAC Clark offers insight into the 51st ACM Awards (4/3) and many of its notable performances. CA: Let’s hit the numbers first and talk about this year’s ratings... RAC: They sucked. I’ll just say that. They sucked. [Ed. Note: 11.18 million viewers, 2.3 rating/7 share]. But it was one of the more competitive nights we’ve had since being up against the American Idol finale a few years back. The Walking Dead was big. The iHeart awards didn’t rate that well, really, so I don’t think that hurt us. The Walking Dead really got us and Steve Harvey’s Little Big Shots is a new hit on NBC that actually beat us in the second half-hour at 8pm. We won the night, but ratings were down year- to-year after a spectacular year in Dallas with the 50th. When we talked to producer Robert Deaton about the CMAs, he said, “I’ve never completely understood wanting to compare us against the AMAs, Grammys, ACMs or In A Big Way: EMI/Nashville’s Eric Paslay (third Oscars.” His point was, an awards show’s competition is from right) with (l-r) WEBG (Big 95.5)/Chicago’s Erik what it’s facing that night, not something that’s airing in Zachary and Mason, EMI’s Chris Fabiani and the an entirely different month. Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

DESOLATION BLUES: THE GOTHIC TRESPASS IN THE LIFE AND SONGWRITING OF TENNESSEE BLUES MUSICIAN RAY CASHMAN Victor Bouvéron A thesis submitted to the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Folklore in the American Studies Department. Chapel Hill 2017 Approved by: William Ferris Glenn Hinson Crystal O’Leary-Davidson © 2017 Victor Bouvéron ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Victor Bouvéron: Desolation blues: The Gothic trespass in the life and songwriting of Tennessee blues musician Ray Cashman (Under the direction of William Ferris) This thesis explores the pervading feeling of the Gothic in the life and songwriting of Tennessee blues musician Ray Cashman. I argue that Cashman emotionally responds to the South through the framework of the Gothic to assert his identity as a white southern working- class male. As a reader, writer and performer, he trespasses the lines of race and class. The ethnographic fieldwork I conducted in Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina between 2015 and 2017 led me to reflect on the intriguing relationship between blues, southern Gothic literature and white working-class culture in the South. The songs written by Cashman often express a feeling of desolation, bleakness and decay, invoke a sense of nostalgia for a bygone time, or describe eerie landscapes and supernatural presences. Cashman also retells southern Gothic stories, like “Snake Feast,” inspired by Harry Crews’s A Feast of Snakes. iii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This project started the day I met Bill Ferris in Lille, France, in 2013. Bill encouraged me to apply to UNC-Chapel Hill and introduced me to the field of folklore.
