From the Pastor: SAVE THE DATE

. Ministry Fair Extravaganza in the Next weekend, after all the Masses, a very important event will take place – our Ministry Extravaganza, the annual Parish Hall Ministry Fair. Now, I know what you are thinking. I am not interested. There is nothing there for me. I am already involved th th in Ministry here at the parish. Why should I even stop? August 27 & 28

Here’s my answer: You should stop at the Ministry Fair Following all weekend Masses just to see what you are missing. With the variety of ministries, organizations and opportunities we are showcasing, there really is something, someway, everyone can be involved. No matter your gifts and talents (even if you aren’t sure what they are), we have a place for you and we need you. We need you to be part of the work of the parish; we need you to help us be the parish community that comforts those in times of distress; the parish community that prays for its friends, its community, its country in a variety of ways; the parish community that actively promotes the works of mercy; the parish community that enjoys its opportunities to come together and enjoy the comradery of fellow parishioners.

If you are already involved or if you aren’t interested, then just stop for the food – the Varsity truck will be here Saturday evening; free coffee and donuts on Sunday morning; and, Kona Ice (snow cones for the uninitiated), Sunday evening.

Join us this coming weekend and see all the different ways you can have a part in the here at St. Peter Chanel.

See you at the Fair.

Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 7 Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home

Founded in 1939, the Cancer Home is staffed by the Hawthorne Dominican Sisters, and is dedicated to the care of terminal cancer patients. The facility is open to those who cannot afford to pay for care, and most of the patients are not Catholic. The current home was built in 1970, a two-story brick building designed specifically for this mission. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home is one of seven free cancer homes operated by the Hawthorne Dominican Sisters. The home is supported by the generosity of a sympathetic public. Donations large and small from groups and individuals have provided the necessary funds from the very beginning. When Rose Hawthorne Lathrop began this labor of love in 1896, she said it was to be God’s work. The sisters placed their trust in the loving providence of God and that trust has never failed. You have three ways to support this wonderful ministry:
