Special Issue NOTES AND DOCUMENTS* March 1982 THE AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS OF SOUTH AFRICA: A BIBLIOGRAPHY by Alfred Kagan CNOTE: This bibiliography is published at the request of the Special Committee against Apartheid in observance of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the African National Congress of South Africa (ANC). In resolution 34/93J of 12 December 1979, the General Assembly of the United Nations requested "the Special Committee to provide all appropriate assistance to the South African liberation movements, recognized by the Organization of African Unity in disseminating information.7 82-071h9 All material in these notes and documents may be freely reprinted. However, only the most important articles from SECHABA, the official ANC Journal, are listed separately. In all other cases, published materials from the 1960s to the present have been included, with near-comprehensive coverage of English language materials for the 1970s, including African imprints. A number of East and West European and Soviet materials are also listed. Citations in section 1: General reference works, are annotated, except in an few cases for works that have not actually been seen. In those cases, annotations by other authors, where available, have been given or appropriate explanations made. Arrangement is alphabetical except where otherwise noted. The bibliography was compiled at the Indiana University Library in Bloomington, Indiana. The Library has an extensive Africana collection. However, materials listed are not necessarily held in the collection. Mr. David Easterman of Indiana University Library and Mir. Mokubung Nkomo of the ANC gave invaluable advice on the preparation of the project.
