TIMBERS TO PLAY GONZAGA IN PRESEASON MATCH AT PACIFIC UNIVERSITY Portland, Gonzaga to square off at new Lincoln Park Stadium

For immediate release: Feb. 22, 2008 PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers and Pacific University announced today the USL First Division club will face Gonzaga University in a preseason match at Lincoln Park Stadium in Forest Grove, Ore., on March 30 at 2 p.m.

Tickets for the Timbers preseason event are $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 17 and under. An on- sale date for tickets will be announced at a later time. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit youth soccer programs in the Forest Grove area.

“The Timbers and Pacific have had several connections over the years,” said Gavin Wilkinson, Timbers head coach and general manager. “Pacific and the city have put effort into creating a high-quality soccer venue, and we look forward to getting out into the community and showcasing our team as we prepare for the upcoming season.”

Recent connections between the Timbers and Pacific include coaches Jim Brazeau and Jim Rilatt. Brazeau, who enters his seventh season as the Timbers goalkeeping coach in 2008, serves as the head coach for Pacific’s men’s soccer program. Rilatt enters his second season as an assistant coach for Pa- cific’s men’s team and the Timbers in 2008.

A collaborative effort between Pacific University and the city of Forest Grove, Lincoln Park Stadium is part of the new $11 million-dollar Lincoln Park Athletic Complex which also includes a 300-seat softball stadium and a 500-seat baseball facility, Chuck Bafaro Stadium. Lincoln Park Stadium is home to the Pacific men’s and women’s soccer teams, track and field team and women’s lacrosse team. Recently, Lincoln Park Sta- dium was named the host venue of the Northwest Conference Track and Field championship in April 2009.

The Timbers begin the 2008 USL First Division season April 17, when they play host to the Puerto Rico Islanders at PGE Park.
