hris Dotolo is now in his seventh season as head coach Cof the Hofstra Baseball program. Dotolo, the 12th baseball coach in Hofstra history, took over the reigns of the program when Hofstra joined the competitive Colonial Athletic Association in 2002. In his six seasons, Dotolo has posted a 106-208-1 record. Dotolo is just the third Hofstra coach to win 100 games for the Pride, a feat he accomplished with a 10-9 win over James Madison on April 21, 2007, joining Jack Smith (179 wins) and Rich Martin (127 wins).

The Pride posted their third consecutive 20-win season in 2007 and their 11 CAA victories tied their best showing since joining the CAA in 2002, matching the mark set in 2006. Freshman Matt Prokopowicz starred for Dotolo, earning CAA Rookie of the Year honors while also garnering several Freshman All-America accolades, including Baseball America.

The 2006 season saw the Pride post a 24-31-1 record, the second FRQVHFXWLYHZLQFDPSDLJQLQ'RWROR¶VWHQXUHDQGWKH¿UVWWLPH the Pride has won 24 games in back to back seasons since 1994 and 1995. Dotolo earned a master’s in sports administration from George Mason University in 1997.

In 2007 the Hofstra Baseball team won 20 games for the third FRQVHFXWLYHVHDVRQWKH¿UVWWLPHVLQFHWKDWWKDWKDG happened. The team also won 11 conference games for the second 8fYk@ČYXh_Y straight year, tying the program’s high for league wins since joining the Colonial Athletic Association in 2002. Considering the fact that only three years ago the Pride posted just three CAA wins, it is easy to see that the team is moving in the right direction.

As the Pride enter 2008, seventh-year Head Coach Chris Dotolo hopes that the team’s journey leads them to Wilmington, North Carolina, in late May for a spot in the CAA Championship. The team returns nine hurlers from last year, but not a lot of conference innings as graduation claimed most of the Pride’s weekend starters including Charlie Frago and Will DeVito, who WDOOLHG¿YHRIWKH&$$ZLQVDVHDVRQDJR

The untested staff will need to rise to the occasion in a hurry and with the rotation still to be determined, each pitcher will have a chance to win a spot. Senior Eric Corkery is Hofstra’s top returnee, statistically, after posting a 2-0 record with a 4.50 ERA in seven appearances (four starts). Classmate Anthony Sarno, who is also a ¿[WXUHLQWKHEDWWLQJRUGHUDOVRUHWXUQVDQG&RDFK'RWRORLQWHQGV to use the veteran on the hill more often than in past years. Sarno was 1-2 with a 5.70 in 11 appearances, 10 in relief.

The University Tutorial Program (UTP) provides free tutoring in every subject area to any Hofstra student. University student-athletes have direct access to a myriad of health care services. Managing the coverage of every practice and competition event is Hofstra University’s athletic WUDLQLQJVWDIIZKLFKLVOHGE\¿IWK\HDU Head Athletic Trainer Evan Malings and features eight full-time athletic trainers and numerous student athletic trainers. The athletic trainers provide injury management, rehabilitation and treatment to the entire Athletic program. Utilizing three state-of- the-art athletic training rooms, these professionals work tirelessly to ensure the safe participation of Hofstra’s student-athletes and to return injured athletes to play quickly and safely.

Supporting the athletic trainers is team physician Dr. Damion Martins. Dr. Martins, a physician with Pro Health Care, Inc. in Lake Success, New York, is in his sixth year on Hofstra’s medical team.
