Ryan Catholic College has been involved in the carnival since 2005 and is getting ready to send their 11th team to compete in Rockhampton. To mark their 10 years of involvement, current and past players attended the inaugural Confraternity Shield Dinner on Saturday 18 June hosted by Ryan Catholic College.

“It was a great night and we received a lot of support with about 150 guests in attendance, including special guests Paul Bowman and his wife Shayne,” said Mr David McNeale, Principal of Ryan Catholic College.

“Our guest speaker, Paul Bowman is the former captain of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, a title he held for 10 years. Paul was a product of the Confraternity Carnival himself and was selected for the NQ Toyota Cowboys from scouts who attended the competition.”

Other guests included previous coaches and major sponsor for many years, Ben Scott from Scott Brickworks.

The ‘Team of the Decade’ was selected by the coaches, Tony Tarnowski and Lyall Herlihy. The 2016 Confraternity Team was also presented with their playing jerseys at the prestigious event.

“Ryan Catholic College is a relatively young school, so if the opportunity arises to celebrate our past and look forward to our future with hope, we will happily celebrate this! It is a timely opportunity to mark a milestone and encourage a bright future for representative sport in the College,” said Mr McNeale.

The Confraternity has been part of many NRL athletes’ journey with 150 NRL Players, 30 State of Origin and 20 Australian players all involved in past tournaments. It is the biggest schoolboy rugby league carnival of its kind in Australia.
