KUWAIT CITY, June 26, (Agencies): The Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs at the Minis- try of Interior Major-General Faraj Al-Zoubi announced in an exclusive statement to Al-Anba daily that the Minister of Interior Sheikh Thamer Al-Ali has issued directives to deploy personnel from the Public Security Police at 10 major malls. The deployment will come into effect Sunday. Each entrance will be manned by one or two po- licemen to ensure entry only to those who have received the vaccine/s. Al-Zoubi said police are also tasked with prevent- ing harassment to private security guards. This is in addition to officers manning the control rooms to fol- low up on the commitment to implement the deci- sions of the Council of Ministers and called on all citizens and residents to abide by the decisions and health requirements. Major-General Al-Zoubi also revealed a plan to check what he called ‘small complexes’ through sudden periodic inspections. If any person who is not vaccinat- ed is found the facility may be closed administratively. Regarding the regional or partial lockdown again, Major-General said there are no directives in this regard, and if there is a need for that, certain areas will be closed for a limited period during which all residents will be vaccinated and then opened upon completion of the residents of that particular area. On Wednesday, dozens of employees of private oil com- panies staged a sit-in in front of the headquarters of the Pe- troleum Workers Union to demand benefi ts and regulatory amendments that would place them in the ranks of employ- ees of the government oil sector. Several representatives of different syndicates and labor unions were present at the location. Head of the Kuwait Trade Union Federation Ahmed Al- Enezi affi rmed that the sit-in will be followed by strikes if the concerned authorities does not comply and sit at the ne- gotiating table to come to an agreement about the preserva- tion of the rights of the workers of this sector. He stressed the need to implement Law No. 28/1969, amend the Kuwaitization regulations, and apply the princi- ple of justice and equality stipulated in the constitution. Representatives of the Union of Petroleum Workers and the Petrochemical Industry, the Workers Union of the Gulf Oil Company, and the National Petroleum Union also af- fi rmed their support for the demands of private oil sector workers for their full due rights. They expressed their astonishment over the matter, say- ing, “There is no sense in devouring the rights of oil workers in an oil-producing country like Kuwait”. Meanwhile, according to a high-ranking oil source, Ku- wait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) has made great strides in restructuring the oil sector, with an international consulting house developing a detailed plan for the restructuring pro- cess, the main features of which so far have been to keep the KPC as it is, and for it to be incorporated by three independ- ent companies, reports Al-Anba daily. The source explained that the three independent compa- nies would be as follows - a company concerned with explo- ration and production inside Kuwait, a company concerned with refi ning and manufacturing inside Kuwait, and the third company concerned with global operations. KPC will have three main sectors under its umbrella. It will transfer the dependency of the Kuwait Oil Tankers Company to the global marketing sector. ARAB TIMES, SUNDAY, JUNE 27, 2021 LOCAL 5

However, to balance Kuwait’s needs, a price close to $100 per barrel is needed. This will not happen... And if it does, it would not last long. However, what is bad is that the government, without any hesitation, started spending as nothing happened or will happen in the coming years. There is no doubt that the oil price will get higher, and OPEC Plus will fully understand the game and closely moni- tor the supply /demand picture for disciplining the supply in good order and making sure none of its members cross the board. It is time for oil producing countries to learn from the past when the oil price was $25 a barrel. Most of them searched for an alternative but many among them opted to cut costs and expenses and introduce Value-Added Tax or some sort of expenses to curb demand of any sort. However, this did not happen in Kuwait. It continued with the same pattern and jumped on our foreign reserve without hesitation despite the public outcry. We are the only nation that will do nothing but complain to each other and in our media, and keep bickering without taking any tangible action. We just do not know for how long we can continue to be passive without any single goal in hand for present or future, despite international recommendation from all sources. ❑ ❑ ❑ email: [email protected] ARAB TIMES, SUNDAY, JUNE 27, 2021 BUSINESS 9 German business sentiment rises in May ‘Infra plans long overdue’ Berkshire stays aggressive with stock repurchases Pandemic ebbs BERLIN, June 26, (AP): Germany’s businesses US infrastructure spending OMAHA, Nebraska, June 26, (AP): with annual gifts. The infrastructure plans are long overdue, economists and business leaders have said, as the nation’s roads, bridges and other infrastructure age without any signifi cant overhaul. The American Society of Civil Engineers gave the nation’s roads a poor grade in its 2021 report, saying 40% of the sys- tem is now in poor or mediocre condition. Bridges, schools and much of the key infrastructure in the U.S. doesn’t score much better. Boosting “From an economic growth perspective, we see the infra- structure deal really boosting productivity,” said Ken John- son, investment strategy analyst at Wells Fargo Investment Institute. The deal agreed to Thursday still has a ways to go. For one thing, Biden said he’ll only sign the deal only if a far larger, $4 trillion reconciliation bill - which would contain his other priorities - also comes to his desk. Also, the compromise package is less than the $2 trillion the president originally sought for infrastructure and focuses more on hard infrastructure and less on efforts to combat climate change. Citi expects nearly all heavy machinery makers in its cov- erage group to benefi t from government spending, but Cater- pillar is likely going to be the biggest winner. “Coming as little surprise to anyone that has passed by a major highway project, Caterpillar has strong market share positions in most of the heavy construction equipment cat- egories in North America,” according to a Citi report issued last week. While the industrials and materials sectors get a push from the infrastructure deal, the broader stock market is focused on the overall economic recovery from the pandemic. “The general re-opening of the economy and renewed, post-Cov- id-19 economic growth is the most likely driver” of the mar- ket going forward, said Chris Zaccarelli, chief investment offi cer for Independent Advisor Alliance. Peter Williams, an economist at the investment fi rm Ever- core ISI, said the infrastructure package probably won’t start to boost economic growth until 2023, because it takes time for major building and repair projects to get under way. But in 2025 and 2026 the extra package would add a healthy one percentage point to the economy’s growth rate, Williams es- timates, and create up to about 775,000 jobs. Michael Pugliese, economist at Wells Fargo Securities, said the infrastructure deal would likely have a modest im- pact on job creation and unemployment but could help the U.S. jobless rate fall below 4% a little sooner in 2023 than it would have otherwise. Profi ts for many companies tied to the construction or in- dustrial sector are already projected to gain ground over the next several years as the economy recovers. Any spending measure spread out over years will help secure and boost that growth through contracts for projects and orders for sup- plies and equipment. Makers of cranes, bulldozers and other machinery are still only part of the bigger picture. Companies that make asphalt, concrete and other road and building materials are in a good position with any future infrastructure spending. Data shows shots effective Nearly all US deaths among unvaccinated

NEW YORK, June 26, (Agencies): Nearly all COVID-19 deaths in the US now are in people who weren’t vaccinated, a staggering demonstration of how effective the shots have been and an indication that deaths per day — now down to under 300 — could be practically zero if everyone eligible got the vaccine. An Associated Press analysis of available government data from May shows that “breakthrough” infections in fully vac- cinated people accounted for fewer than 1,200 of more than 853,000 COVID-19 hospitalizations. That’s about 0.1%. And only about 150 of the more than 18,000 COVID-19 deaths in May were in fully vaccinated people. That trans- lates to about 0.8%, or fi ve deaths per day on average. The AP analyzed fi gures provided by the Centers for Dis- ease Control and Prevention. The CDC itself has not esti- mated what percentage of hospitaliza- tions and deaths are in fully vaccinated people, citing limitations in the data. Among them: Only about 45 states report breakthrough infections, and some are more aggressive than others in looking for such cases. So the data probably understates such infections, CDC offi cials said. Still, the overall trend that emerges This photo provided by NASA shows astronauts NASA’s Shane Kimbrough and France’s Thomas Pesquet during a space walk outside the International Space from the data echoes what many health Station on June 25. John’s farewell tour Ramos ‘sexy & dark’ in new R&B album

NEW YORK, June 26, (AP): For his sophomore album, Anthony Ramos wanted to go “sexy and dark” while adding an R&B vibe in honor of the artists who inspired him growing up. “Love and Lies,” released on Friday, follows 2019’s “The Good & The Bad,” a “more autobio- graphical” effort, according to the “In the Heights” star. It features 12 songs, including “Échale” and “Right Now.” Ramos, who got his break in Lin-Manuel Mi- randa’s smash musical “Hamilton,” is having a breakthrough year as an actor, also appearing op- posite Uzo Aduba in the HBO reboot of “In Treat- ment.” His next projects in- clude a sci-fi epic, “Distant,” as well as the next “Trans- formers” installment. But “music was my fi rst love”, he told The Associat- ed Press in an interview this week from Montreal. And being a recording artist is a “sueñito” (little dream) that only grew bigger with time. Ramos Ramos also spoke about the colorism debate around “In the Heights” — “The people have spoken. There’s nothing to debate,” he said — and the fi lm’s lackluster theatrical box offi ce after being praised by critics and hailed as the movie of the In this video image provided by NATAS and the Daytime Emmys, host Sheryl Underwood introduces a tribute to the late hosts, (pictured on screen from summer.
