Sean Arnold Editor It’s not quite the real thing, but that won’t damper the excitement Friday night as high school football returns to the area July 17. Chiefland is playing host to Bell at C. Doyle McCall Field in Wayne Pridgeon Stadium. The Indians and Bulldogs kick off at 7:30 p.m. Bronson plays at home against Merritt Island Christian at 7 p.m. It’s the most highly anticipated season in many years for both programs. The Indians return a slew of talented juniors and seniors on both sides of the ball, many of whom are coming off their first varsity season. It’s the second year for Adam Gore, who took the helm at his alma mater in early 2017 and led the squad to a 5-5 finish. An especially early start to the season -- August includes two regular season games along with the preseason classic -- and the heat have made preparation a challenge for teams. The Eagles welcome new head man Seth Stebbins, who hopes to establish some much-needed stability for a program that’s seen five head coaches in five years. Bronson hopes to surprise on the field with a few new additions after notching one win the past three seasons. The Chiefland Citizen will have more football preview and season coverage in the coming weeks. Look for its annu- al football preview tab August 23.
