This event is a standard U.S. Figure Skating Nonqualifying Competition LE/9/1/18 The 18th Annual Skate Challenge will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of U.S. Figure Skating, as set forth in the current rulebook, as well as any pertinent updates which have been posted on the U.S. Figure Skating website.

This competition is open to all eligible, restricted, reinstated or readmitted persons as defined by the Eligibility Rules, and is a currently registered member of a U.S. Figure Skating member club, a collegiate club or an individual member in accordance with the current rulebook. Please refer to the current rulebook for non-U.S. Citizens.

ELIGIBILITY/TEST LEVEL: Test level: Competition level is the highest test passed as of the entry deadline, in the discipline the skater is entering. Entrants may skate one level above that for which they qualify, but they may not skate down in any event.

Age restrictions/requirements: Singles free skate events (Well Balanced Program) have the following requirements. Juvenile: Girls – 12 years of age or younger; Boys – 13 years of age or younger Open Juvenile: Girls – 13 years of age or older; Boys – 14 years of age or older Intermediate must be under the age of 18 Adults must be 21 years of age or older

Skaters entering pre-juvenile and lower events will be divided as closely as possible by age, should the number of entries warrant more than one group.

ENTRIES: Applications must be completed ONLINE using the registration link at www.sccny.org, no later than midnight February 14, 2020. A late fee of $20.00 will be charged after midnight February 14, 2020 and will only be accepted if time and space is available. Team or group events must be registered as its own entry, separate from individual events. The competition chairperson reserves the right to cancel an event if there are less than 3 entrants(with full refund of entry fee) and to combine and divide groups. If the group size is more than 18, the groups may be divided by random draw for juvenile. For intermediate and novice levels, the groups may be divided either randomly or by seeding. Skaters may skate up one level in any event, but may not skate below their test level. Competitors may enter only one Freestyle event. For all other events, competitors may enter as many events as they desire, provided they meet the entry requirements. Please check our web site for registration information to verify your entry. No changes will be made to the competition event entries after the schedule is posted unless there is an error on the part of the club.

REFUND POLICY: Entry fees will not be refunded after February 15, 2020 unless no competition exists or the event is canceled. There will be no refunds for medical withdrawals. The online processing fees are not refundable. Checks returned for non-sufficient funds and contested credit card charges will be issued a $30 fee. Payment of the fee will be required before the skater is allowed to participate in practice ice or events.

SCHEDULE: Competitors may be scheduled on any day or time for the announced dates of the competition. Notification of competition times will be available at http://www.sccny.org

FACILITIES: The competition will be held at the Cicero Twin Rinks located in Cicero, New York. The ice surface at the Cicero Twin Rinks measures 100’ x 200’ (Olympic size). A second rink may be utilized. This rink measures 85‘x200’(NHL size). All IJS and synchronized skating events will be held on the Olympic rink. A snack bar and dressing rooms are available. No outside food allowed in facility per management.

This event is a standard U.S. Figure Skating Nonqualifying Competition LE/9/1/18 MUSIC: NEW THIS YEAR! Competitors are required to upload their music on Entryeeze when submitting their application. Only one piece of competition program music (e.g. Free Skate, Showcase, etc.) per file is allowed. The uploaded file must be in MP3 file format; simply changing the file extension to “mp3” from another file format is not acceptable. Competitors and/or coaches must also bring a copy of their competition music on CD to the event as a backup in case of technical difficulties and the music must be available rink side during the competition. Only CDs (no CD-RW discs) will be accepted. The music for the Interpretive events will be supplied by the competition committee. The deadline for online music submission is Saturday February 22, 2020 at 11:59pm.

LIABILITY: U.S. Figure Skating, The Skating Club of CNY and its officers, and The Cicero Twin Rinks and its representatives accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this competition. This is in accordance with Rule 1600 of the official U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook.

JUDGING SYSTEM: IJS and 6.0 Double Panel of Judges; some events will utilize one-half surface. See notes for each event to determine which ones will use half-ice surface. This competition will be judged using IJS for the following events: Excel Plus Free Skate, Well balanced Juvenile through Senior and all short programs. The 6.0 closed marking system will be used for all other events.

REGISTRATION: Registration will begin on January 19, 2020 and end at midnight on February 14, 2020. A registration desk will be open throughout the competition, located in the main lobby of the Cicero Twin Rinks Facility. Competitors should arrive approximately one hour prior to their designated skate time and check in promptly upon arrival. Upon arrival, competitors must register at the registration desk on each day that they will compete. Skaters are responsible for being present at each event entered.

LOCKER ROOMS AND CHANGING AREAS: Locker rooms and changing areas at U.S. Figure Skating competitive events are for athletes only, will be labeled with regard to specific use and where identified will be gender specific. An exception can be made for athletes 11 years old and younger that will allow for one parent of the same sex to assist their child immediately prior to and after their skating event(s). Please review the Locker Room and Changing Area Policy and the SafeSport Handbook (both found on the U.S. Figure Skating SafeSport page).

PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY: We will have a photographer taking professional photos off ice in the lobby. There will be a $10 sitting fee that will be put toward your purchase. The Skating Club of CNY reserves the right to photograph or videotape portions of the competition to use for promotional purposes

AWARDS: Medals will be given for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers. Synchronized skating teams placing 1st, will receive a team trophy. Individuals on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place synchronized teams will receive medals and 5th place finishers will receive ribbons.

RESULTS: Results will be available after each event for $.25 per copy

OFFICIAL NOTICES: An official dry erase board will be maintained inside ice arena entry. It is the responsibility of each competitor, parent and coach to check the bulletin board frequently for any schedule changes and/or additional information. All coach compliance is verified via EMS and is connected to the U.S. Figure Skating database. The compliance tab within EMS lists ALL individuals who were declared by skaters at the time of registration or through their EMS Skater Portals (also allows access to skater schedule, music/PPC preview etc.). The compliance requirements are tied to our database and are updated daily. Further, if a coach is non-compliant, they will receive system generated emails through the start of the competition. Coaching U.S. Figure Skating athletes: • Current member in good standing with U.S. Figure Skating • Completed background check (green light status) • Completed SafeSport Training* • Continuing Education Requirements (CERs) for the 2019-20 Competition Season • Proof of current general liability insurance with limits of $1 million per occurrence/$5 million aggregate.

*SafeSport training is available through http://www.usfsaonline.org for full members of U.S. Figure Skating (through Learn to Skate USA portal for instructors). There is no cost to this training and certification is valid for 2 seasons

The LOC will have a list of compliant coaches who are approved to receive a credential at the competition. Coaches will need to check in at the event registration desk and show a government issued photo I.D. to receive a credential.

If a coach cannot provide a photo I.D. and is not on the list or cannot produce the necessary documents, he or she will not be allowed a credential. There can be no exceptions to this policy.

If a foreign coach has only foreign athletes at your competition, a background check and SafeSport Training is not required. Instead, the coach must submit a letter from their Federation stating they are a member in good standing.

This event is a standard U.S. Figure Skating Nonqualifying Competition LE/9/1/18 Interpretive Events Format: Interpretive is a performance choreographed by the competitor, unaccompanied and unassisted, to music supplied by the competition committee / LOC. Programs should incorporate various elements of expressive movement and skating moves, to enhance the skater’s interpretation of the music, rather than technical elements. • The music will be played twice during an on-ice warm-up. • After the warm up skaters will go back to a room, with no music being played. • The first skater will hear the music a third time before performing. Skaters will be brought to the ice when the previous skater is performing with their back to the ice in order to hear the music a third time. • All competitors in an event will interpret the same music. • Props are not permitted.
