SLSNZ Rescue Of The Year 21st October 2001 What We Do

Each year, over 80 active give up their personal time to patrol the North Piha beach ensuring the safety of the public who flock there. They put their lives on the line each weekend ensuring that over the years, tens of thousands of people leave our beach with only happy memories of a day in the sun. Lifesaving is in their blood – it’s their passion. Most of what they do goes unnoticed and unrecognised, but they keep coming. The United North Piha Lifeguard Service continues to create not only great members of our community, but also great New Zealanders.

United North Piha Lifeguard Service Inc - ANNUAL REPORT 2017 - 2018 31 This is a photo of my 86th birthday. Man have I got memories of my days at the beach. It started about 1949. when the seas were still flowing around monkey rock, no rips etc just magic surf.spent hours and hours body surfing. The clubhouse was built on the first sandbank now look where it is. My 18 years in the caravan in the camping ground was good I got my children and theirs to enjoy surf, I never wore flippers at NP.

Cheers Crutchie!

F.F.H. Barnett. Life Member North Piha. Gave name to Barnett Hall.
