Outline of Survey 1.1 Background For over 40 years since the 1970’s, Japan had provided a wide range of support for Philippine infrastructure projects, including the preparation of flood control plans which targeted mainly the major rivers in Metro Manila, the implementation of ODA loan projects, and technical assistance to the central government agencies. Regarding river floods, after the Mangahan Floodway was completed in 1988, JICA had implemented the “Study on Flood Control and Drainage Projects in Metro Manila” (1988 to 1991), and the “Pasig-Marikina River Channel Improvement Project” (the Project) was selected as a highly urgent project to implement flood management measures in the Pasig-Marikina River.

Two are from Mt. Banahao, one from the Central Cordillera, and one from the Sierra Madre, Luzon Island, Philippines. These species are in the dorsali~ Group as diagnosed at present. The distinguishing characters and distribution of the Philippine species of the dorsalis Group are discussed. Since 1994, our field work on Mt Maquiling and Mt Banahao (two mountain peaks in southern Luzon), the Central Cordillera, and S~erraMadre (northern Luzon, Phil~ppines),has resulted In the recognition of 11 species of Pla[vmant~s,dorsalls Group as currently defined (Brown et al. 1997a) Seven of these have been described P corrugatus, P dorsalls, P spelaeus, P levlgatus, P nz~nzulus, P naonm, and P pygvzaeus. These species are clearly distmguished by their advert~sementcalls, although they share a number of morphological features These s~mdar~ties, part~cularly of the digits, are the main reason for the failure of earlier herpetologists to recognize them as separate species MATERIALSAND METHODS Materials examined include: (1) holotypes ofPla@n~antis:P.

Rental housing is now seen as a vital component in accommodating large number of families in developing countries. In the Philippines, specifically Metro Manila, the increase in urban population through both migration and natural increase, has been absorbed to a large extent by the rental market. There is thus a need for the government to reexamine its policy on rental housing.

  • Mountaineers Can Destroy–Or Save Mountains by Businessmirror, APRIL 23, 2017
Mountaineers can destroy–or save mountains By BusinessMirror, APRIL 23, 2017 As tens of thousands are drawn to beautiful beaches to beat the summer heat, a growing number of nature lovers are looking for other adventures, such as climbing some the country’s peaks. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) called on the public to have a worthwhile summer vacation by engaging in activities that promote the environment. In particular, the DENR reminded nature trippers to be vigilant of activities that could cause disastrous forest fires, which could lead to a huge setback in the government’s reforestation efforts, threaten human lives and bring massive damage to forest ecosystems and biodiversity loss. Tourist spots, biodiversity hot spots Some of the country’s mountain peaks are frequented by climbers, making them among the country’s tourist spots. However, these tourist spots are also “biodiversity hot spots” found within protected areas (PAs), such as the Mount Apo Natural Park (MANP) in Davao del Sur in Davao region and Mounts Banahaw-San Cristobal Protected Landscape (MBSCPL) that traverses Quezon and Laguna provinces in Southern Tagalog. Mount Apo is known as home to the critically endangered Philippine Eagle, a national symbol, which is endemic to the Philippines. There are only around 42 pairs of these monkey-eating eagles, mostly occupying forested mountain peaks like Mount Apo. A United Nations World Heritage Site, MANP is a key biodiversity area. It has one of the country’s highest endemism in both flora and fauna. According to the DENR-Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB), there are 800 estimated vascular and nonvascular plant species in Mount Apo.
