Emergency Notification Telephone Numbers for Railroads and Public Highway-Rail Crossings in Illinois This document provides a comprehensive list of emergency notification telephone numbers for all railroads operating Illinois, as well as a detailed list of every public highway-rail grade crossing and the corresponding emergency notification telephone number. The list of crossings is organized by County, City and Street name for easy identification. Emergency notification telephone numbers are located at many highway-rail grade crossings, however, there is no requirement to have such notice posted. The actual signs may be located on the warning device mast (or post), or on a nearby signal bungalow. When calling in a problem at a crossing it is important to use the seven character US DOT / AAR crossing identification number (e.g. 064992H), as well as railroad name, milepost and street name. Examples signs are presented below.
