At the end I should thank Mr. Michiel van der Waaij from Netherland for sending me the work of Allaman. I take the reader attention to the point that this book is only an elementary introduction to living Bryozoans of Iran and the author hopes to see other books written on this area. A.: & Arioso G. G. and. Zevina, G. B. Their works and other information on Invertebrates of Caspian sea has been recently compiled and edited by Birshtain Y. in a Book: Atlas of Caspian Sea Invertebrates. The following marine species has been recorded from Caspian Sea:

Conopeum seurati Canu, 1928 Bowerbankia imbricate Adams, 1798 Bowerbankia gracilis Leidy, 1855 Paludicella articulate Prenant et Bobin, 1956 Kent, 1870

The species of Persian Gulf is from works of Dr. P.J. Haywood, University of Wales, University College of North Wales, and Bangor who worked on Bryozoans in seashores of Kuwait, also Dr. Kevin Tillbrook has identified many bryozoans in southern part of Persian

The English explanation of species has been included in the text. Another good work done by Iranian Scientists belongs to Seyed Morteza Etezad, Mohammad Sadegh Marjani and Hooshang Abasi. They identified many species in Enzeli wetland in northern part of the country adjacent to Caspian see .They worked in Environment Department Research Center of Enzeli Wetland. In parts of their report they introduced the following bryozoans species: Cristatella mucedo Cuvier, 1798 Fredericella sultana Blumenbach, 1779 Plumatella emarginata Allman, 1844 Plumatella fruticosa Allman , 1844 Plumatella repens Allman , 1844

The third species (Plumatella emarginata ) has been also reported by Russians from Caspian Sea . The Russian Scientists working on Caspian Bryozoans are : president of the 1924 session of the Indian Science Congress.

The Royal Asiatic Society of Bengal, with which he was closely associated during his service in India as Anthropological Secretary, Vice- President and as its President in 1923 instituted a triennial an Annandale Memorial Medal for contributions to anthropology in Asia. The first award was made to Dr Fritz Sarasin in 1928.

His insect and spider collection is in the Indian Museum , Calcutta.

Mr. Annandale reported the following species from Hamun lake in east of Iran: Fredericella sultana Blumenbach, 1779 P lumatella ( Afrindella ) persica Annandale,1919 Plumatella ( Hyalinella ) bigemmis Annandale,1919 Lophopedella carteri Hyatt, 1865

placed an official equality with botany and geology and made more funds available for expeditions to various parts of India. He was interested in aspects beyond systematics including ecology. His suggestion of a problem in anthropology to P. C. Mahalanobis led to the latters discovery of a technique that developed into the multivariate statistical techniques of today. He held the position of director until 1924 and was succeeded by Robert Beresford Seymour Sewell (1880-1964). He was Thomas Nelson Annandale (Born 15 June 1876 at Edinburgh and died 10 April 1924 at Calcutta) was a Scottish zoologist , entomologist and anthropologist.

Annandale went to India in 1904 as Deputy Superintendent of the Natural History Section of the Indian Museum. He was a deputy director at the Indian Museum and in 1907 he became its director, succeeding John Anderson (1833-1900). He had traveled widely before his career in India and with H. C. Robinson he had undertaken the Skeat Expedition to the northern part of the Malay Peninsula in 1899. He started the Records and Memoirs of the Indian Museum journals and in 1916, he became the first director of the Zoological Survey of India that he helped found. He was associated with many scientists of his time. This change

Bryozoans of Iran

In Iran we have reports of eight freshwater species, thirty four species from Persian gulf and Oman sea region and six marine species from Caspian sea ( We should remember that Caspian sea contains both freshwater and originally marine specimens ) . Bryozoans, also known as Ectoprocta or Polyzoa, are minute moss like sessile colonial . The size and appearance sometimes creates difficulty as to weather they are animal or plants for the layman or beginners. The first person to work on Freshwater bryozoans of Iran Inland waters is Mr. Nelson Annandale, His biography as Wikipedia describes shows him as and serious and hardworking scientist:
