I haven’t laughed so much in years. Apart from a small hiccup at the beginning of the term, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience that I can honestly say we all enjoyed. We hope you did too. This week we have had a visitor at school, actually several visitors. It has been strange to have so many people around. For the first two days of the week, Barbara Spencer rocked on up in her camper van and took the children for some specialist art lessons. They did some great work around colour mixing and then dived into making their own prints that they printed making beautiful images. We are so lucky to have specialist teachers out here and hopefully she will come back again next year. We also have some builders here, taking care of the rotten cladding on our school. Harry and Jacob are doing an awesome job while bunking down at Helen’s B&B at night. Last week the whole school attended the Taumarunui Touch tournament where we teamed up with Matiere for a great day of sport. Our Year 5-6 team almost made it to the semi-finals, but they missed one of their games. As we rock on towards christmas, we will treasure the last few weeks of learning together. It is fast coming to an end and the end of year demands can be overwhelming. Just remember to take a breath and walk to the top of one of your amazing hills. It works for me! In my younger years I was raised on a farm before moving to town. I am married to Jake Allen and we have recently had our little boy Kobe who is 12 weeks old (now). I love sports, gardening, cooking (I make a pretty good chocolate brownie), sewing and travelling. I love to be a little artistic with painting and stone carving but that’s a work in progress!!! My passion is teaching and I want to help children learn and succeed in anyway possible. I look forward to getting to know everyone in the community and working alongside you all at this amazing little school! PARENTS Sports Thanks so much for the help during our Touch day and Athletics. Without your help these days would be so much harder. We really do appreciate it. Reminders Swimming Swimming is compulsory every day unless we are not able to for some reason. Time is ticking away and sometimes other things take priority. Footwear During Term 4 and Term 1 there is not as much need for gumboots or boots at school. Alternative footwear is expected unless it is wet and muddy. The children are still expected to have sneakers daily at school for fitness and sport. Attendance Attendance is usually very high at Tokirima School but it only takes one or two students to be away in a small school like ours and we will not meet the MoE weekly/yearly target of 94%. Our attendance has not risen as an awful lot of the children have been sick or away. Our current attendance is still 93.2% COMMUNITY Thank You th Paparata Elite Romney’s 29 Annual Ram Sale This is our only big fundraiser at the moment and we are very grateful for the support shown to Michelle in helping make the catering a great success once again. Thanks Michelle, we could not do it without you and the support from all the school families. A very big thank you to everyone who baked/cooked and worked on the day. Many thanks to Trevor Johnson for supporting Tokirima School by giving us this opportunity to do the catering. Working Bee HUGE THANKS to all of our helpers at the working bee and to those who have come and done extra work because they couldn’t make it on the day. It is so good for the children to see how much we all care about our little school and for them to be involved. So nice when local community members who don’t have children at the school, also get stuck in. School Pool The pool is now open to the community for the 2017/18 season. Keys can be purchased from the school office for $50 until Wednesday 13th December. Please follow the rules and abide by them. • Names & Opening & Closing Dates of Railway Stations
Names & Opening & Closing Dates of Railway Stations in New Zealand 1863 to 2010 Researched & Written by Juliet Scoble for the Rail Heritage Trust of New Zealand JRS/291 © Juliet Scoble 4/2010 © Rail Heritage Trust of New Zealand 4/2010 Introduction This document lists the names of railway stations and the dates they were opened and closed. Included are the dates stations were opened for goods and or passenger traffic before the lines were officially opened or handed over to the Working Railways Department. Often the Public Works Department would run goods and passenger services whilst the list was still in their custody. These services were operated by the Public Works Department's ballast engine. Goods were carried in Working Railway's wagons. Occasionally a passenger car or covered wagon fitted with seats were provided, but most times passengers were carried in Public Works' ballast wagons. I have included the stations on the lines owned by the government railways, and private lines where government rolling stock was run thereon. This is an on-going work as I am still looking through files and am finding more names and other information to include in this document. Revised versions will be issued from time to time, the frequency depending upon the new information I find. Juliet Scoble 4/2010 Acknowledgements Most information has been obtained from the Rail Heritage Trust's Station Archive created and researched by Juliet Scoble, and from research specifically undertaken for this document.
