ADORATION 101 “Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me; for I am gentle and lowly of heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29) In the next few Adoration 101 installments, I would like to share a few things a little personal to me. There might be some of you reading this who may not feel at ease or comfortable, or who still struggle with what you ought to do when adoring our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. It could be something new for you. Perhaps you’ve been doing it for years but the peace you desire is still absent or not full. I would like to share with you some meditations which I do when making a Holy Hour. How all of us relate to our Lord is di,erent, for we are all created special and unique, so this is simply a way in which I, personally, relate to Jesus in at Eucharistic Adoration which I felt compelled to share in hopes that it might bring at least one soul closer to God. Before making my Holy Hour I tell Jesus I’m coming to see Him as I would any other friend. When entering the chapel I picture myself with the disciples on a sunny, warm afternoon just leisurely sitting around with Jesus as He rests, sitting underneath the shade of a tree. Nothing dramatic or spectacular but He’s there! I sit in awe and just gaze at Him and listen intently as the other disciples do as well. My heart waits in eager anticipation on what He has to say. Sometimes He speaks; sometimes He doesn’t. However, just being around the one you love needs no words. Just being near them is enough. I just sit with Him, quiet and leisurely. If I feel He wants to talk I’ll tell Him about my day. I tell Him everything, hiding nothing. I sit and talk to Him because I trust Him completely. I want Him to know about my day and knowing He really does care makes a world of di,erence. It’s sitting with someone who’s more than a friend. He’s our soul mate, in every sense of the word. Once the Holy Hour is complete I say good-bye to Him as I would anyone else (but with the utmost reverence) and you can feel His love follow you long after you leave. NEXT WEEK: The Holy Hour with Mary! ~ Paul A. Ray

Regular Adoration Hours: Sunday, 10:00PM - Saturday, 9:00AM If you can commit to one hour of Eucharistic Adoration each week, or if you have questions, please contact: Julie Varchetti: [email protected] or (586) 214-1825 Baptism of the Lord ∙ Sunday, January 13, 2019 Page 6

Krst Pána Ježiša Opýtam sa: Môže sa niekto sám pokrstiť? Nedá sa to. Nik sa nemôže pokrstiť sám. Nikto. A tam ich svojim utrpením spálil. Preto si ho privinul k sebe a nahlas, pred všetkými mu vyznal svoju lásku. A Ježiš plný nadšenia ide do práce. Musí dokončiť dielo vykúpenia. K tomu je potrebný duch odvahy, lásky, nadšenia i chuť ísť do toho. Do nášho depresívno-melancholického vzťahu prináša iskru úplne nového ducha. S Duchom Svätým sa nebojí postaviť ani proti diablovi. Už sa to spustilo a ovocím pre nás je nový štýl života, ktorý mám v tomto Božom Duchu žiť. Pochopili ste to? http://nova.dkuspis.sk/clanky/828-8-Krst-Pana-Jezisa/3-Farska-katecheza/15-Katecheza-ministrantov/4-4-rok The Baptism of the Lord Jesus “I ask you: Can anyone baptize himself? It cannot be done. No man can baptize himself. Nobody. We can ask for baptism, desire baptism, but we always need someone who will give us this sacrament in the Lord's name. Baptism is a gift that is given in the context of mutual care and fraternal sharing. Always, throughout the history, one baptizes another, another and another ... as a chain. Chain of a Grace. I cannot baptize myself, I have to desire it and ask someone else.” Holy Father Francis Therefore, let us not think only of ourselves, for Jesus Christ descends into the waters of the Jordan for us so that God may be in love with us. Reflection: People entered the river with a desire to wash away all their sins. They wished to leave them there and leave cleansed. When Jesus entered the river, though He was sinless, with this same gesture He symbolically took onto Himself all the sins that people had left there. He took them upon His own body and carried them with Him to the cross. And there He burned them through His own su,ering. So, in the Jordan River, this event triggered a purifying process for all mankind. This was the beginning of something extremely important, as all of creation was about to be restored. God the Father knows what His Christ desires. That is why He looked upon Him and loudly professed His love before everyone at His baptism in the Jordan. In return Jesus went about His work, full of enthusiasm. He had to complete this work for our redemption. This required the spirit of courage, love, enthusiasm, and an overwhelming desire for our freedom. He brought the spark of a completely new spirit to man’s depressing-melancholic relationship with God. Strengthened by the Holy Spirit, he would not hesitate in standing up to the devil, when He was tempted. With this selfless act He willed our redemption and now awaits us to exercise our free will and join Him. The fruit of this gift for us is a new way of life: that I must live in the Spirit of God.
