The peculiarity to add a ‘09’ to name Diva, includes not only a temporal reference that matches with the Swimming World Championships,, but makes the name unique and exclusive and gains a bit of starring that the mascot wants to have. FORO ITALICO The Foro Italico will be the centre of the XIII FINA World Championships which will consist of four permanent and two temporary pools for Swimming, Diving, Water Polo and Synchronised Swimming. There is over 400,000 people expected to visit the Foro Italico over 17 days of competition with 1800 athletes from 200 countries and 2000 voluntees and 1500 media covering the event. OSTIA – OPEN WATER VENUE Ostia, the port of ancient Rome, now lying 5km/3mi inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea and close to Fiumicino Airport, is the largest excavation site in Italy after Pompeii. The access for spectators along the coast makes the open water events exciting and easy to watch from the shoreline. (Reaction Time: +0.69. (Note: Phelps’ third world-record in 100 fly, second time in 23 days he has broken it. Last man to break wr twice in same year was Australian Michael Klim, who did it twice in two days in December of 1999 in Canberra, when he swam 52.03 [12/10] and 51.81 two days later. (Note: first time record has been broken in Rome and/or Italy. (Note: Phelps’ second-consecutive gold. Ties him with former U.S. teammate Ian Crocker for most wins in this event [2]. Phelps also won @ Melbourne [2007] in a then pr 50.77. U.S. has eight of 13 golds overall. (Note: Phelps first man to leave a major international competition holding both butterfly world records since Russia’s Denis Pankratov following the European Championships in Vienna 14 years ago [August 1995]. Pankratov first broke the 200 world record of USA’s Melvin Sewart [1:55.69 to win gold @ the 1991 World Championships in Perth] with his 1:55.22 @ Canet in June of ’95. The Russian then won the gold and broke the global-standard in the 100 w/his 52.32 @ Vienna two months later. That swim took down the USA’s Pablo Morales’ 52.84 from the U.S. World Championship Trials in Orlando nine years earlier [June ‘86].

    2009 RULES & REGULATIONS MAJOR LEGISLATION AND RULE CHANGES FOR 2009 1. Swimwear restrictions were put in place for those competing in 12 & under age group defined competition. 2. Meet information for sanctioned or approved competitions must state whether the pool has been certified in accordance with 104.2.2C(4). 3. A Short Course Junior Nationals will be held each winter. 4. Sexual misconduct provisions have been extended to include all members and/or non- members who are participating in any affairs or activities of USA Swimming or its LSCs. 5. The recruiting provision in the Code of Conduct has been expanded. 6. Part 4 has been rewritten to include LSC Hearings and Appeals. 7. Part 6 has been rewritten to include important information previously included only in the LSC Model Bylaws. DOPING CONTROL All athletes should check the status of all medications they plan to take PRIOR to taking them. This includes Over the Counter and Prescription medications. It is the responsibility of the athlete to ensure that no prohibited substance enters his/her system. The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) offers a Drug Reference Line (1-800-233-0393) and a Drug Reference Online (www.usantidoping.org/dro) where athletes, coaches, parents and medical professionals may check to ensure that proper documentation is on file for their medications and that they are consuming medications that are permitted. To comply with the World Anti-Doping Code, FINA, USOC and USADA have all amended their anti-doping rules.
