This booklet helps to define many ministries offered here at St. Nicholas, our Metropolis of Boston, our Archdiocese of America and Ecumenical Patriarchate. This booklet will allow you to see what ministries and programs not only take place but allow YOU to be fully involved in the life of the Church. Many active ministries are highlighted in this booklet, yet many others could use support, time and leadership! Please take to the time to look over the Ecclesiastical and Parish Calendar (which is also updated regularly on our Google calendar at www.stnicholaslex.org/calendar) and add this calendar of services and events to your own! I must at this time thank Maria Decoulos for her time and talent in organizing and updating current information into this booklet. I would also like to thank our parish photographers, Tony Gray and George Psyhojos for capturing such wonderful moments in the past year, which can be seen throughout this booklet. It is my hope and prayer having begun a New Ecclesiastical Year, that we “commit ourselves to one another and our whole life to Christ our God.” With love in the Lord, Fr. Demetri 5 St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church 2013-2014 Message from Parish Council President Dear St. Nicholas Family and Friends, On behalf of the Parish Council, we are excited to present the latest edition of the St. Nicholas Ministries Booklet. One of the goals of this booklet is to provide a description of some of our more active St. Nicholas Parish family ministries. It gives insight into the activities and people who enable these ministries. There is also a section in the back on the many other ministries available and those offered by the Metropolis of Boston. Another significant feature of the booklet is the inclusion of a 2013-2013 Ecclesiastical and Parish Calendar -- for a quick look at what's going on. One will see ads throughout this booklet from businesses and parishioners who have contributed financially to support the production of this booklet and the many ministries of St. Nicholas. I want to express our gratitude to all of them on behalf of the Parish Council. I hope that by reviewing this booklet, you and your family may find additional opportunities to become more involved, both spiritually and socially, with the St. Nicholas Family. Warmest regards, Tony Gray Parish Council President 6 2013-2014 St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church 2013-2014 The Great Feasts of the Church September 8 The Nativity of the Theotokos September 14 The Elevation of the Holy Cross November 21 The Presentation of the Theotokos to the Temple December 25 The Nativity of Christ January 6 Theophany (the Baptism of Our Lord) February 2 The Presentation of Our Lord to the Temple March 25 The Annunciation Sunday before Pascha Palm Sunday Great and Holy Pascha Pascha Forty days after Pascha Ascension Fifty days after Pascha Pentecost August 6 The Transfiguration August 15 The Dormition of the Theotokos Movable Ecclesiastical Dates FEAST 2013 2014 Triodion Begins February 24 February 9 Lent Begins March 18 March 3 Saturday of Lazarus April 27 April 12 Palm Sunday April 28 April 13 Good Friday May 3 April 18 Pascha May 5 April 20 Western Easter March 31 April 20 Ascension June 13 May 29 Pentecost June 23 June 8 7 St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church 2013-2014 2013-2014 ECCLESIASTICAL AND PARISH CALENDAR SEPTEMBER 2013 September 1 First day of the Ecclesiastical Year September 3 Labor Day (Office Closed) September 8 Nativity of the Mother of God Church School and Greek School Registration September 14 Elevation of the Holy Cross (Orthros & Divine Liturgy at Holy Cross Chapel) September 15 First Day of Church School Classes and Agiasmo (blessing of waters) Church School every Sunday September 20-22 A Taste of Greece Festival September 21 First Day of Greek School Classes and Agiasmo (blessing of waters) Greek School every Saturday OCTOBER October 4 1st Family Night Gathering - 1980's theme, Dance & Karaoke October 6 St. Thomas the Apostle October 14 Columbus Day (Offices Closed) October 18 St. Luke the Evangelist October 23 St. Iakovos, Brother of the Lord, Divine Liturgy of St. Iakovos October 26 St. Demetrios the Great Martyr October 27 Oxi Day program by Greek School October 28 The Holy Protection of the Theotokos (OXI Day) NOVEMBER November 1 Sts.
