General Information

Board of Commisioners Dear Citizens, Thank you for reading the Fall 2020 edition of the Belvidere Park District Go Guide, your Park district is here to serve you. I hope that you find opportuni- President ties in our offerings that meet your recreational needs, and if not, I encourage Mark Muccianti you to please let us know how we can improve our services to do so. We strive [email protected] to provide a wide range of programs to meet as many needs as possible. We continue to evaluate and assess the needs the community has for its park Vice-President district during these uncertain pandemic times. Covid-19 has presented every- one in every corner of the world with new challenges and we are no exception. Jean Twyning The programs and services that we offer have taken careful consideration to [email protected] provide for your utmost safety while you recreate with us and I think you will see that throughout our program descriptions and in the processes displayed Secretary while you are participating with us. Please know that as things change so will Mary Marquardt we as we strive to provide high level services in offerings needed by our com- munity. [email protected] A main topic that the Park District is being faced with in the immediate future Treasurer is what are the needs of our community for aquatic services and offerings? Currently, underway is a community survey which can be accessed through our Sam An website which we hope will allow us to gather as much information as possible [email protected] about what our community wants. Additionally we have formed an advisory committee that will be working during the 2020 calendar year to formulate Commissioner community based recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. These recommendations should reflect the collective voice of the community and Paul McCaffrey what direction the district should take in aquatic services for long range plan- [email protected] ning. I encourage you if you want to have a voice in the discussion to contact the district office or visit our website on current updates to the process and how you may still be involved. Follow us! Like us! Another major planning initiative facing the district is the future of the Baltic Mill. This iconic and original structure to the Belvidere Township Park District has a high emotional attachment to many residents but low functionality. It is admired and enjoyed by thousands every year but rarely used by the commu- nity with the exception of some meeting space and restrooms. The district is launching another community wide survey to gauge the current interest of the @BelvidereParkDistrict Baltic Mill and what possible uses the community could have for the structure if it were repurposed. Again, if you would like your voice to be heard in future planning of this facility please contact our office or check our website for up- dates. I look forward to seeing all of you out in the parks this Fall. Mark Pentecost, Executive Director 3 WAYS TO REGISTER

RESTORE ILLINOIS PHASE 4 SAFETY GUIDELINES To sustain our progress, Governor Pritzker, the State of Illinois, Illinois Department of Public Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are urging service areas and facilities, such as ours within the Belvidere Park Dis- trict, to remind users of the safety guidelines and protocols in place to ensure the safety of participants and visi- tors.

We are taking this call-to-action seriously and encourage all community members to join us in complying with the safety protocols set forth to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

For the safety of all employees, patrons, and vendors, the Belvidere Park District requests that all facility guests and program participants over the age of 2 follow IDPH guidelines and wear face masks when entering buildings and any time when 6-ft of social distancing cannot be maintained.

PARTICIPANT & VISITOR SAFETY REMINDERS Facemasks are required upon entry to and in all common areas of buildings and at service touchpoints such as customer service desk locations.

A minimum of 6-foot of social distancing is required at all of our indoor and outdoor facilities.

Frequent hand washing and regular use of hand sanitizer are strongly recommended.

Group gatherings of more than 50 persons are to be strictly avoided.

When applicable, please bring your own equipment (towel, mat, water bottle, etc.) for use during your visits.

Hours of operation have been altered for most facilities to accommodate for additional cleaning and sanitizing.

In addition to regular maintenance, the park district has enhanced cleaning and disinfecting procedures for fre- quently touched objects and surfaces. Hand sanitizing stations are available in and around facilities for your use.

Stay home when you are sick or experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness with fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.

Avoid contact with others that are sick or experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms.

Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bath- room, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

As parents consider instructional options for back to school, we know that parents may also face numerous chal- lenges with home school and virtually based learning, including difficulties monitoring progress with the online virtual environment. Belvidere Park District is providing a Fall Day Camp at Meehan, Caledonia, Seth Whitman, Lincoln and Washington Academy. This will allow for smaller groups of 12 students with 2 dedicated staff members monitoring their en- gagement with the online curriculum. This is not a tutoring program but oversight for children working with online curriculum. Each week counselors will supervise distance learning during school hours as well as providing technological help, keeping students on task and monitoring classwork. Throughout the day, between school work and once school work is complete, kids will get to enjoy free play, arts & crafts, science, S.T.E.M activities, sports and group games with a blend of indoor and outdoor time in a safe and healthy environment. This program is not designed for students needing specialized instruction or students in high-risk categories. Please consult with your doctor before enrolling in this program if medically vulnerable. Payments are non- refundable. Fall Camp Covid-19 Guidelines

HEALTH MONITORING 1. Any staff or participant who is exhibiting one or more COVID-19 symptoms will be prohibited from attending Fall Camp. Parents will be notified to pick up their child immediately. 2. Potentially sick children will be isolated in another area away from the whole group, until pickup occurs. Parents will be encouraged to contact the child’s doctor by phone immediately and will advise all family members to stay home until a diagnosis is obtained. 3. If a staff or participant exhibits one or more symptoms, they should inform the Park District and follow these procedures. A. If they are getting tested, share the results with the Park District. • If the test comes back positive, see #6 below. • If the test comes back negative, they may return immediately with a doctor’s note. B. If they are not getting tested, they can return when at least 10 days have passed since onset of symptoms, they have been fever-free for at least 72 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication), respiratory symptoms have improved and all other symptoms have re- solved and they provide a “Return to Fall Camp” doctor’s note. C. **The Park District is aware minor symptoms may not indicate COVID-19. A doctor’s note clarifying the individual has a history of a symptom or that a symptom is unrelated to COVID-19 may allow the individual to return to the Park District sooner. These situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis with the Park District administration. 4. Any staff or participant who has had close contact (without a mask and less than 6-feet for more than 10 minutes) with any other per- son who is diagnosed with COVID-19 should quarantine for 10 days after the last/most recent contact with the infectious individual and seek a COVID-19 test at a state or local testing center, healthcare center or other testing locations. • Notify Belvidere Park District staff personnel of this positive case. 5. If a participant exhibits signs during time at Fall Camp, staff will remove and isolate them and call a parent/guardian for pick-up. If the parent/guardian is not available, the staff will call the individuals listed on the participant’s pick-up permission form. New this year, the Park District will ask that parents/guardians highlight those individuals who can make it to the Fall Camp site for pick-up within 15 minutes. Please provide us with contact name of someone able to pick up your child within 15 minutes. 6. If a staff or participant is identified as being COVID-19 positive by testing, the following will occur: A. Local health officials, staff, and participants will be notified immediately of any possible case of COVID-19 while maintaining confidenti- ality consistent with privacy laws. B. Cleaning and disinfecting will be performed according to CDC guidelines. C. All staff and participants should be alert for signs of COVID-19 by watching for symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath and by taking temperature if symptoms develop. 7. PRESCHOOL DRAWING WITH YOUNG REMBRANDTS

Young Rembrandts combines our love of art and children to teach, empower and build confidence that goes beyond art. We teach children how to draw, using our unique and proven method, while instilling a love of art and lifelong skills that lead to overall personal success. Our method helps children improve fine motor skills, patience, focus and discipline, as well as attention to detail, time on task, handwriting readiness and more. Stu- dents learn about art in a fun, encouraging and nurturing environment, as they prepare for future success in Kindergarten and beyond. Qualified instructors will encourage students in a non-competitive setting. There are no right or wrong answers in art! We hon- or them for the process, as well as the product. Your children will be provided a table and access to wireless to complete school- work, and a clean environment with small ratios. During downtime, campers will enjoy stretch breaks, games, crafts, science experiments, and other Camp Horizon hallmarks, with special educational focused visitors and virtual field trips.

Counselors will help your child get their computer turned on and may be able to help with simple computer troubleshooting. This program does not take the place of school, and counselors do not function as teachers and are not responsible for teaching, tutoring, or other school inclined tasks.

Each day students must bring their own laptop, textbooks, headphones (with microphone encouraged), morning snacks and a completely disposable lunch. An afternoon snack will be provided.

Parents are responsible for providing staff an outline of student’s daily class schedule information, and any school supplies their child would be required to provide, which may include labeled pencil box with markers, crayons, colored pencils, eras- er, tape, Elmer’s glue, glue stick, scissors, pens and pencils.
