Those wanting to venture on the Nature Trail would have needed swim suits at worst, hip boots at best. Never designed to be a drainage project the Bay intruded on the mangroves and the trail. Not unexpected – bring your kayak! Finally, about driveways. Many homeowner driveways, like those pictured, remained flooded for several days following the storms. The history of drainage in The Landings is at least partly responsible for this problem. When initially built individual homeowner driveways frequently were sloped toward a swale which Landings Blvd. and Pintail Way usually a pool ran at the approximate center of in bad storms. the driveway. Over the years, two things have happened. The swales running through lawns have been Nature Trail becomes a kayak expressway filled, or not been cleaned either – Picture Credit Larry Fleming. on the individual lot, or the route toward the drainage sewers. The other problem is driveways have been renovated, including the addition of pavers refurbishing of a pebbled surface converted to circular drives or completely rebuilt. In some cases this resulted in no slope adjacent to the swale. In some cases there was no slope, but a drainage pipe was provided under the driveway to attach the North Gate – Missing Tree! swale from one side to the other. Yet some properties, have no apparent need for either type of drainage as they are positioned high enough that the water drains directly under the roadway, most of which are designed to slope toward storm sewers. According to the covenants lawn swales and driveway drainage are the responsibility of the homeowner. In some cases 2 or 3 adjacent homes can all be involved in the problem of clearing the swale, replacing the swale or needing to supply better drainage from one side of the driveway to the other. But we also realize the best form of advertising is satisfied customers. That’s how the Recommended Vendors feature began. (Retail outlets and non-residential services do not qualify.) Categories included are at the sole discretion of the Eagle. 2. Supply your name and phone number so we may verify—we do not release it. 3. The Eagle will list the vendors in two consecutive issues. A second recommendation, from a different household, will bring a second listing in the next issue and a designation (**). 4. Listings are limited to two issues. After two issues, vendors remain on the recommended list at the www.LandingsEagle.com website. 5. There is no charge for these listings. 6. The Eagle reserves the right to solicit the vendor to advertise in a future “Landin’s Recommend” annual supplement—though we never have. 7. Neither The Eagle nor the recommending Landin assumes any responsibility or liability for the work of the vendor. 8. We do not follow up on the list, removing those out of business, etc. 9. The Eagle urges individuals using services to check for appropriate licensing, insurance and bonding if required.
