Scope and Contents The Don Kinch Collection consists of 26 open reel 1/4" tapes of audio recordings. The recordings are from 1971-1980 and include performances by Don Kinch's Conductors Ragtime Band (Don Kinch, Bud Gerlach, , Bob Brewer, Jim Goodwin, Axel Tyle, Hal Smith, Al Barrows, Mike Duffy), Jim Beatty, , Meryl Conger's Tavern Troubadours (Meryl Conger, Harold Koster, Bob Pettingill, Axel Tyle, Chris Tyle), and the Original Chicago Jazz Devils, and others. Biographical History Don Kinch was born May 14, 1917 in Kelso, Washington. During his musical career he worked with the Castle Jazz Band, the Turk Murphy Jazz Band, the , and Don Kinch's Conductors Ragtime Band. Throughout his career he played a variety of instruments: violin, trumpet, string bass, , and helicon. In the 1970s he moved to Portland, Oregon and operated a musical instrument repair business. Don Kinch died July 24, 1998 in Portland, Oregon. Arrangement Original order has been maintained as closely as possible. Cite as Don Kinch Collection, ARS-0199.
