  • Families of General Teran, Nuevo Leon, Mexico Volume Four (1842-1850) 2Nd Edition by [email protected]
Families of General Teran, Nuevo Leon Mexico Volume Four 2nd Edition By [email protected] April 2014 Crispin Rendon 3430 Bahia Place Riverside, CA 92507 Families of General Teran, Nuevo Leon, Mexico Volume Four (1842-1850) 2nd Edition By [email protected] You might assume that I have ancestors from Valle de la Mota, now named General Teran. I don't. So why did I create a 16 volume family series, from there, spanning a period of over 100 years? It all started with an article published in the Los Bexarenos Genealogical Register Volume XXVII. The article was about Jose Lucas Rodriguez who married five times and fathered over 30 children in General Teran. I looked at a bunch of marriage records as I researched that article and the idea came to me that I would have to look at the same records again and again. This is a common routine with genealogy research. You check the records for one family and then check the same records for another family. Sounds easy enough until you find some records that are difficult to read. You take the time to read them all for each new search. It is so much nicer to reach for a book that has every marriage. Why stop there? Place each family in the context of where they fit in the big picture puzzle. Give the image number for the marriage for easy online access. That was my big ideal. The original volume one was well received and led to volume two and so on ending with volume sixteen.

A Song with “Dash” and “Pep”: A History of The “Marines’ Hymn” To 1919 Lauren Bowers Marine Corps History, Volume 6, Number 2, Winter 2020, pp. 5-22 (Article) Published by Marine Corps University Press For additional information about this article https://muse.jhu.edu/article/796386/summary [ Access provided at 28 Sep 2021 01:35 GMT with no institutional affiliation ] This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. A Song with “Dash” and “Pep” A HISTORY OF THE “MARINES’ HYMN” TO 1919 by Lauren Bowers Abstract: From its unknown nineteenth-century origins, the “Marines’ Hymn” has grown from a collection of unregulated verses into a dignified anthem reflecting the proud history of the Corps. Focusing on the song’s early history until the end of World War I, this article tells the story of that evolution. During this period, the hymn played an increasingly important role in official recruiting and publicity efforts, resulting in a growing popularity among the general public, disagreements about the need to standardize the lyrics, and the introduc- tion of new formats and technologies to allow for wider accessibility. Together, these trends culminated in the authorization and copyright of an official version of the song in the summer of 1919. The “Marines’ Hymn” is known worldwide as a reflection of Marine Corps experiences and values, and this article aims to bring some of its forgotten history and the contributions of its strongest advocates to the attention of a modern audience. Keywords: “Marines’ Hymn,” Publicity Bureau, Recruiters’ Bulletin, Marines in World War I, Quantico, Leath- erneck magazine, Marine Corps Band, Quantico Post Band, Major General George Barnett, Brigadier General Charles A.
