CORMACK Division of Environmental and Evolutionary Biology, Institute of Biomedical & Life Sciences, University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK Trinidad's only dendrobatid frog, Mannophryne (=Colostethus) trinitatis, lives by the small streams draining the slopes of the Northern Range mountains and at Tamana Hill in the Central Range. Adults are often very abundant, but tadpoles are found patchily in the streams. In the absence of two potential predators - the fish Rivulus hartii and shrimps of the genus Macrobrachium - tadpoles are abundant in pools. Where the predators are present, tadpoles are uncommon or absent. Tadpoles may also be found in small, isolated bodies of water at some distance from streams. Males carrying tadpoles retained them for 3-4 days, in the absence of suitable pools. When presented with a choice of pools, males preferred to deposit their tadpoles in pools lacking predators. There were differences in behaviour between males fromthe northern and southern slopes of the Northern Range. For example, north coast males deposited tadpoles in pools containing other conspecific tadpoles in preference to empty pools, whereas males from southern slopes made the opposite choice. When presented only with pools containing predators (i.e. shrimps or fish), north coast males shed their tadpoles in damp leaf litter rather than in the pools, while males from the southern slopes deposited tadpoles in pools with shrimps - predators uncommon in the southern slopes streams. -

Fifty species and four genera are added to the previous list, 25 species are deleted, and 47 experienced nomenclatural changes. -

MOUNTAINS & HILLSTATIONS HILL STATION • A hill station is a town located at a higher elevation than the nearby plain which was used by foreign rulers as an escape from the summer heat as temperatures are cooler in high altitudes. MUNNAR ➢ Munnar the famed hill station is located in the Idukki district of the southwestern Indian state of Kerala. ➢ Munnar is situated in the Western Ghats range of mountains. ➢ The name Munnar is believed to mean "three rivers", referring to its location at the confluence of the Mudhirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly rivers. ➢ The hill station had been the summer resort of the British Government during the colonial era. ➢ Munnar also has the highest peak in South India – Anamudi, which towers over 2695 meters ➢ Munnar is also known for Neelakurinji, a rare plant which flowers only once in twelve years. ➢ The Eravikulam National Park, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and tea plantations are its major attractions. Box 4783, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Abstract.—This paper provides an updated checklist of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) native and alien herpetofauna. The UAE, while largely a desert country with a hyper-arid climate, also has a range of more mesic habitats such as islands, mountains, and wadis. As such it has a diverse native herpetofauna of at least 72 species as follows: two amphibian species (Bufonidae), five marine turtle species (Cheloniidae [four] and Dermochelyidae [one]), 42 lizard species (Agamidae [six], Gekkonidae [19], Lacertidae [10], Scincidae [six], and Varanidae [one]), a single amphisbaenian, and 22 snake species (Leptotyphlopidae [one], Boidae [one], Colubridae [seven], Hydrophiidae [nine], and Viperidae [four]). Additionally, we recorded at least eight alien species, although only the Brahminy Blind Snake (Ramphotyplops braminus) appears to have become naturalized. We also list legislation and international conventions pertinent to the herpetofauna. AYUTHAVEL KALAIMANI Aarohi, No.192,7th Block, Jayanagar, Bangalore 560011 Karnataka, India Email: [email protected] INTRODUCTION The Indian golden gecko Calodactylodes aureus (Beddome, 1870) is endemic to the Eastern Ghats mountain range of peninsular India (Bauer & Das, 2000; Kalaimani & Nath, 2012, 2013; Reddy et al., 2013; Srinivasalu et al.,2014). It prefers rocky areas with deep stream valleys and has been observed at elevations between 50 and 1000 m and reported to lay eggs in communal egg deposition sites (Bauer & Das, 2000; Javed et al., 2007) on rocky surfaces, mostly on vertical rocks in both natural and human-inhabited areas. This paper gives information on mass egg laying sites of C. aureus in Tirupattur Forest Division, Eastern Ghats, Tamil Nadu. METHODS Figure 1.
