Motorola Micro Tac Classic Product: Motorola Micro Tac Classic Date of Design: 1992 Designer / Retailer: Motorola Cost 1992: - Cost 2007: £40 Retro Brick state… The Motorola MicroTAC phone set a new design standard for 1989 with a flip-lid mouthpiece. As the smallest and lightest phone on the market, the unit weighed 12.3 ounces, measured 6.75 x 2.25 x 1.25 inches and retailed between £1,200 and £1,800… ouch. This phone is actually third generation of this particular design and was launched in 1991/2 ‘This was a whole new direction for Motorola. New technological advances meant that the equipment could be radically downsized. And so began the quest to be the smallest, lightest and most portable. The original MicroTAC was a completely new design and was the first phone to use this radical flip. There are also few things about it which are quite unusual.... The small hole in the front of the flip gave you the impression that there was a microphone in the flip which was positioned directly in front of your mouth, however, the microphone is actually situated just behind a tiny hole in the main part of the phone just between the right hand hinge and the call end button on the bottom right. Another puzzling design feature was the retractable aerial. In fact, the aerial does absolutely nothing as it is purely for show. The unit features an internal antenna, however, the pull up plastic was added after focus groups in the US felt that any phone should have a visible aerial. -

The mobile phone handsets are low-powered radiofrequency transmitters, emitting maximum powers in the range of 0.2 to 0.6 watts. Scientific concerns have increased sufficiently over the possible hazard to health from using cell phones. The reported adverse health effects include physiological, behavioural and cognitive changes as well as tumour formation and genetic damage. However findings are controversial and no consensus exists. Genotoxicity has been observed either in lower organisms or in vitro studies. The aim of the present study hence was to detect any cytogenetic damage in mobile phone users by analysing short term peripheral lymphocytes cultures for chromosomal aberrations and the buccal mucosal cells for micronuclei (aneugenicity and clastogenicity). The results revealed increased number of micronucleated buccal cells and cytological abnormalities in cultured lymphocytes indicating the genotoxic response from mobile phone use. Mobile phones can contain large amounts of information which can be of use in an investigation. These include typical mobile device data including SMS, phone records and calendar and diary entries. As the difference between a PDA and a mobile phone is now blurred, the data that can reside on a mobile phone is somewhat endless. This report focuses on the performance of different mobile phone forensic software devices, and reports the findings. All aspects of the different software pieces will be reported, as well as what the investigators extract from the phones. The ability of different software tools to produce certain hash algorithm sums will be analysed, as well as the forensic methods used to extract the information. -

Industrialisation changes the way of life - Nokia as part of the development How was life in Finland in the 19th century? Finland was eastern part of Sweden for many hundred years. Sweden and Russia had fought several wars during centuries. After the Finnish war in 1809 Sweden lost its eastern parts of the North Sea to Russia. At this time Finland became an autonomous part of the Russian Empire as the Grand Duchy of Finland. Finland was part of Russia until 1917. Finland was an agrarian country in the 19th century. People farmed land, raised livestock and produced everything they needed themselves. The 1860s saw the modest beginnings of the industrialisation and the first factories started up in the proximity of lakes and rivers. The city of Tampere developed into a significant industrial center. The industrialisation started changing people’s lives: machines were used to manufacture cheaper goods and the goods were paid money for. The machines made the farm work easier. There was a shift from subsistence economy to monetary economy. The beginning of Nokia 1865-1902 The Finnish forest industry started to develop rapidly in the mid 19th century. Mining engineer Fredrik Idestam established a wood pulp mill in Tampere, southwestern Finland. In 1868 Idestam built a second mill near the town of Nokia. The name "Nokia" is derived from the town Nokia and the Nokianvirta River. Nokia lies 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) west of Tampere, by the Nokianvirta river. The river had better hydropower resources than those in Tampere. In 1871 Nokia Ab was born. After Idestam the company expanded into electricity business.
