I can say it by experience and with absolute conviction that the print as well as the electronic media have done wonders in boosting sports. Snooker might not have become so much popular in Pakistan in such quick time without the support we received from the media community. Thanks to the media, now snooker is played and followed in every nook and corner of the country. The successful cueists like Muhammad Yousuf, Saleh Muhammad, Farhan Mirza, Naveen Perwani, Imran Shahzad, Muhammad Sajjad, Muhammad Asif, Hamza Akbar and others became household names in Pakistan. I have kept declaring it openly and at times vociferously that the media has been extremely generous in promoting snooker ever since we had revived it in the middle of 1980s. Syed Khalid Mahmood sits right on top as far as writing, reporting and analyzing on snooker is concerned. He has done it consistently for nearly three decades now. He has written extensively on snooker. The articles on his blog have helped in spreading the word in territories where Pakistani newspapers or televisions channels were not accessible. The publication of his blog articles by means of Reflections Series is simply an icing on the cake. Ali Asghar Valika Chairman, Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association Karachi. He has been discharged from the hospital. His son Dr. Adnan Anwar, who is himself a vastly experienced physician, revealed that the former Pakistan captain, regarded as the greatest-ever centre-half to have graced the hockey arena, has had an extended stay at the hospital due to the various complications caused by his sudden collapse while having shower. “Quite a few bones of his have been damaged as he appeared to have slipped in the portion right below the shower. The lungs have been disturbed and there are marks of swelling on his head as well. Various tests are being carried out and that’s why he had more than one week stay at the hospital.” he disclosed. The great Olympian remained in great spirits and he didn't even mind meeting friends and acquaintances who came to visit him in his room of Karachi’s leading private hospital which is a stone’s throw away from his residence. “I have had numerous injuries during my playing career but this one looks little serious. As I do have the knack of seeing off tough moments, I am confident that, with the prayers and best wishes of family members and friends, I will be able to regain my composure

  • CADET COLLEGE PETARO – a COLLEGE with a DIFFERENCE Prof
CADET COLLEGE PETARO – A COLLEGE WITH A DIFFERENCE Prof. Affan Maqsood, Ex-Professor & ex-Head of Dept. of English, CCP (1969-1996) (Currently Prof. Affan Maqsood is Head of Dept. of English at the Women’s Institute of Science and Humanities, Islamabad) The mere thought of Cadet College Petaro makes me nostalgic about the twenty seven years I spent at Petaro as a teacher of English. I joined as lecturer in English, and left as professor and Head of the Department of English, and Divisional Co- coordinator officer. Petaro is reminiscent of the golden period of my life. It was not merely a period of my teaching, but also a period of my grooming as a teacher of English. No doubt there are some other good cadet colleges in the country, Cadet College Hasan Abdal being perhaps the oldest with its own history and traditions. But of all the colleges, Cadet College Petaro stands at the climax. My opinion is neither based on my emotional attachment with this institution nor on prejudice against any other institution. Rather it is genuinely based on cogent reasons. I joined Cadet College Petaro on the 4th of September, 1969. If I am not mistaken, the same year or the next, Petaro won the President’s Sport Shield, by winning the Inter-Cadet College Sports Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
