NAAC Reaccreditation 2nd Cycle – Grade A+

It was a proud moment for St. Pious X Degree and PG College for Women on 2nd November 2018, when the college was reaccredited with ‘A+’ grade and a CGPA score of 3.38 - highest among all the Osmania University affiliated colleges of Telangana, by the National Assessment and

NAAC PEER TEAM VISIT Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college was accredited with ‘A’ grade during first cycle of accreditation in the year 2013. Thereafter the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) worked consistently for quality improvement and quality sustenance. We are thankful to the relentless endeavors of the IQAC, Coordinators for the 7 Criteria of assessment, the Governing body, HoDs, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, parents and well- wishers for this excellent achievement. The College SSR was submitted on February 10th, 2018.

The Peer Team Members visited the college on 24th and 25th September, 2018 to assess the quality and excellence of the college as specified under the following criteria, as part of the accreditation process.  Curricular Aspects  Teaching, Learning and Evaluation  Research Innovations and PEER Team visiting the departments Extension  Infrastructure and Learning Resources  Student Support and Progression  Governance, Leadership and Management  Institutional Values and Best Practices

The Peer team was received with Guard of Honour by NCC cadets of the college on the first day followed by presentations by the Principal, and Heads of the Departments. The Peer team members visited all the Arrival of the NAAC Peer Team departments and interacted with students, parents, alumni, staff and IQAC. A cultural program was organized in the evening. On the second day the peer team verified all the physical facilities, functioning of committees and various cells. In the exit meet, the peer team addressed all faculty and handed over the Peer Team report. Based on their report and recommendations and the SSR, NAAC awarded our college with 'A+’ Grade on 2nd November 2018. We Cultural programme express our profound gratitude to God for rewarding our years of hard work and perseverance in realizing this dream.

Prof Dr. Hameeda Bee, Osmania University, Hyderabad delivered the inaugural address during which she emphasized the importance of the workshop and encouraged the students to pursue careers in Microbiology.

Health Camp and Blood Donation

Blood Donation and Medical Camp by Lions Club:

A medical camp was organized in the college by Dept. of English in collaboration with Lions Club, Banjarahills on 13th July 2018 to inculcate healthy practices among the youth. The camp offered Dental Checkup, Eye checkup by Vasan Eye Care and Voluntary Blood Donation by Sanjeevini Blood Bank, Hyderabad. This was indeed an experience for the Piousians to volunteer in donating blood to serve the human community. Around 60 students Medical Camp donated blood for a good cause. All the students, teaching and non-teaching staff utilized the facility of the Dental and Eye Camp. On 26th August 2018, a health checkup by Lions Club members for the hostel students of the college for Women, was organized by the English department. Students were examined and advised by Dr. Leela Sambrani.

Blood Donation Camp HEALTH CENTRE

St Pious X Health Centre in collaboration with Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, the pioneers in Diagnostic Medicare Organised a Health Camp on 24/10/2018 for all the Teaching and Non Teaching Staff and for the neighbourhood Community. A total of 12 health parameters were checked. Around 108 people registered for this Health Camp. “KANTI VELUGU PROGRAMME”, St Pious X Health Centre in collaboration with the initiative taken up by Government of Telangana had St. Pious Health Centre organised a massive three day eye-screening programme from 28/9//2018 to 1 / 10/2018 in which students, parents, faculty & neighbourhood people were screened for ocular problems covering Refraction, Cataract, Vitamin-A deficiency, eye infections, Glaucoma, Corneal disorders & Diabetic retinopathy. Around 189 people including students, staff and neighbourhood community registered for the program

`CYNOSURE 2k18: A Creative Carnival

Students Performing @ Cynosure 2K18 Inaugural Session On 4th October 2018, one of the most memorable, amazing event “Cynosure” was organized in the college by the department of Mass Communication. It was sponsored by Aarush Studios. The grand show commenced with a welcome of Chief guest Dr. Stevenson, Professor of Mass Communication Osmania University and proprietor Mr. Aarush, proprietor Aarush Studios Various colleges from the city took part in the mega event. The participants from various colleges showed their talents in different events like RJ, Short Film, Photography, Debate, Standup Comedy, Mock Press, On Spot Ad, Prank Call, Lip Sync and A Minute to Fame. The main attraction in the event was the RJs from FM 93.5 Red FM-and Singers MC. Mike and Uneek with their rocking music and songs. The members of the film “Husharu” team and “Bhale Manchi Chauka Beram” team mesmerized the hearts of the audiences. Many Food stalls were set up with delicious food. The audience were glued to the event as they enjoyed every moment heartily. Finally, the grand event concluded with the announcement of the deserving winners of each competitions followed by a Valedictory session.

One Click: In the occasion of World Photography Day, The mind blowing pictures captured by the participants showcased their talents. Rev. Fr. Kingston, HOD, Dept. of Mass Communication from St. Joseph’s Degree & PG College, Kingkoti was the judge for the competition.

Orientation Programs

Dept. of English and Dept. of Biochemistry conducted the orientation for two days by inviting the parents and students of I year B.A, B.Com, BBA on the first day and I BSC Physical and Life Sciences on the second day. The Correspondent and the Principal highlighted the profile of the college and Life in St. Pious X College Emphasizing on the rules and regulations which would enhance their personality and nurture them holistically. Parent Orientation Program

The IQAC Coordinator, Dr. R. Komala focused on the quality and excellence in higher education, the facilities provided to the students and the NAAC reaccreditation. The parents expressed their happiness and gave their response on the stage on joining their wards in the College. The students were introduced to their respective in- charge lecturers and were shown the infrastructural facilities in the college. The Parent Orientation Program programme came to an end with tea and refreshments.

Dept. of MBA: Orientation Programme for MBA I Year - The Orientation Programme for the I year MBA students and their Parents was held on 31st August 2018 in the college auditorium, and Chief Guest was Mr. Sudhir Babu, Head HR, L and T Metrorail, and Hyderabad. Principal Prof. K. Kalidas addressed the parents and MBA I yr students and spoke about the significance of MBA program. Mr. Sudhir Babu spoke about Orientation Program- Advances in industry expectation from MBA, various career opportunities available to the students and the importance of goal setting and goal achievement and ultimately become successful Managers .It was followed by a question answer session when the parents and students interacted actively. Department of Mass Communication is now equipped with a full-fledged Mass Communication Studio, which is the Production Control Room and has Chroma [the “Green Mat”] for variations in background. The studio is precisely for recording short events and producing production-based

Production Control Room activities. The studio would serve as hands-on expertise building catalyst, along with enriching the students’ theoretical knowledge. The Department also has Mass Communication Lab for facilitating production Mass Communication Lab and editing of various shooting projects as given by the lecturers to the students in terms of assignment or educative personal projects.

COUNSELING CENTER - SNEHITA

Snehita - Psychological Center was inaugurated by the Department of Psychology in the year 2017 on 8th March. Snehita- Psychological Counseling aims at helping the students understand and accept themselves “as a unique individual”, and counseling is to help the student to help themselves. The main objective of counseling is to bring about a voluntary change in the counselee. For this purpose the counselor provides facilities to help achieve the desired change or make the suitable choice.

PSYCHOLOGY LAB

The department has a well-equipped laboratory consisting of all the Necessary equipment used for testing intelligence, memory, thinking, attitudes, attention etc., and Questionnaires and material necessary for lab work. Ms. Aisha Afroz takes charge of the maintenance of the lab and teaching the syllabus charted by Osmania University. Objectives of Psychology Lab is to enable the students to understand way of conducting Psychology Lab psychological experiments. The Psychology Lab is well equipped with devices like Tachistoscope, Aesthesiometer, Self-Concept Scale, Self Esteem Inventory, Moral Judgment Questionnaire and Adjustment inventory for learning activities.

ENGLISH DIGITAL LAB

Digital language laboratory was established in the month of July 2018 for effective language skills in English. 20 systems in the Communication Lab were upgraded with a new software ‘Orell’ – iTell P3 level. This software is an IT enabled Language learning tool for an integrated Listening, Speaking, Reading & writing skills. English Lab

Dept. of MBA: A Two- Day workshop on Investments and Financial Derivatives was organized by Karvy Financial Services for II yr MBA Students titled SEAL (Student Engagement and Learning) on 30th - 31st October 2018 and the resource person was Chinmayi Solanki.

Dept. of Physics: The students of II M.Sc and I M.Sc attended the National Workshop on “Innovative Teaching-A Virtual Lab Approach”, organized by the Department of Physics in Workshop by KARVY Financial Service association with Amritha Vishwa Vidyapeetham on 29th August 2018.

The I and II M.Sc students along with Mrs. Afreen, Faculty Biochemistry attended a Two Day “National Seminar on Impact of Biochemistry in Interdisciplinary Research” Osmania University on 17th - 18th September 2018. The seminar was sponsored by DST-Purse Programme, TSCHE, TAS and Indian Society of Analytical Scientists.

Harika of I M.Sc Biochemistry presented a poster on “Assessing the gene expression and role of osteoporotic MG-63 Osteoblasts in the bone formation using cowpea Vitamin D” Dept. of Mass Communication: Conducted a Workshop on Live broadcasting Process of Live Broadcasting and Outdoor Broadcasting was conducted on 19th July to BA MPML IInd and IIIrd year students and the resource person was Fr. Kingston, HOD, Dept. of Mass Com, St. Joseph’s College. Workshop on Live Broadcasting Students were briefed on various elements which come under Live Broadcasting.

Dept. of Mathematics: On 27thand 28th September 2018, Mrs. Mehrunissa Begum and Ms. Ch. Sparsha from Dept. of Mathematics attended a two day workshop on “Geogebra and Vedic Mathematics” at Vanitha Mahavidyala Exhibition grounds, Nampally, Dr. Sudha Swaraga Hyderabad.

Dept. of Chemistry: A three Day Workshop on ‘Molecular Modelling Using Open Source Software’ was attended by Dr. Sudha Swaraga (faculty) and R. Mounika ,M.Sc 2nd year (student) during 29th to 31st October 2018 at Department of Chemistry, University College of Science, Osmania University sponsored by CSIR, DST-FIST, UGC-SAP, UGC- CPEPA and DST-PURSE.

One day National seminar on ‘New Exciting Dr. Sudha @ O.U Frontiers of Chemical Sciences’ was attended by Dr. Sudha Swaraga. M, Dr. Snehalatha( Faculty) and 13 students(1st year, M.Sc) at Keshav Memorial Institute of Commerce and Sciences , Narayanguda, Hyderabad. Resource persons were the renowned academicians from the India’s premier organizations and universities like Dr. K. Rajender Rao, Scientist at National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, Dr. K. Rajender Reddy , Senior Scientist , CSIR –IICT, Tarnaka, Hyderabad, Prof. D. B. Rama Chary, School of Chemistry, and Prof. D. Ashok, Osmania University.

Biochemistry students on 28th July 2018. The resource persons were research scholars from CCMB who explained the glimpses of research at CCMB (Santosh, Shambavi, Ashish and Annapurna) and also gave tips and inspiration to have careers in science field.

Dept. of Mathamatics: The Department arranged an orientation lecture on “Personality Development and Life Skills” to students of Physical Sciences on 18th August 2018. The speaker was Dr. T. Venugopal Reddy, World Record Holder in Mind Power and great motivator. He published various books on Mind power and Personality Development.

Dept. of Chemistry: The Department of Chemistry organised an orientation program for M.Sc (Chemistry, BioChemistry and Microbiology) students on 24th November,2018 on higher studies abroad. The resource persons were from IDP(International Development Program). The resource person, Ms. Sree Devi delivered an elaborate seminar on the scope of higher studies in different countries.

Dept. of Microbiology: Annapurna of II year, M. Sc Microbiology attended four week NPTEL online course “Biomedical Nanotechnology” from 28th August 2018.

Career Guidance

Dept. of Commerce: 7th July 2018: Career Guidance Programme was conducted by C. S Kavitha Rani and Namita from Institute of Company Secretaries of India to all the B. Com II and III year students. 27thJuly 2018: Career Guidance Program by TIME was organized for all final year UG students.

The resource person for the event was the senior Most faculty from Byju’s Institute of Hyderabad who enlightened the students about the pros and corn of the most important competitive exams conducted by UPSC and how students can get through this exams by focusing on their basics which they already had achieved. Mr. Prakash Jha highlighted National Women Entrepreneurship Conclave three important points that every student must inculcate in their life. Patience, Perseverance, essay writing and Revision, thus after the session material and Magazine were distributed among the students.

Dept. of Microbiology: American Society of Microbiology Students Chapter: On 6th September 2018 Department of Microbiology organized a poster competition on ‘Advances in Microbiology’. Twelve teams and comprising of 43 students took part in the competition. The posters were judged by Mrs. Sujatha from Genetics Department and Mrs. Padmini from Biochemistry Department. Dept. of Commerce: On 7th of September 2018, students from B.Com participated in ‘Euphoria’ at St. Mary’s College and won prizes. The winners of ‘Talash – The hunt competition’ are Bharti Vaishnav, Mamoona Mohammed, Asra Saleha, Ruquaiya Saleha.

Final year students attended the fest in Madina Degree College, Himayath Nagar and participated in various competitions like Debate, Sa re ga ma, Role play and Jam. Bharti Vaishnav, Mamoona Mohammed, AsraSaleha, Ruquaiya Saleha have won 2nd prize in debate competition on ‘Social Networking’.

The Resource person for the lecture was Dr. NJP Subhashini, Osmania University, Hyderabad. Guest lecture on ‘Material Science’ has been conducted for MPC III year students on 6th Oct, 2018. Dept. of Economics: The Department of Economics organized a guest lecture on 29th August on the topic Evolution of Development for all 3rd BA students to help them differentiate between Growth and Development. Mr. Gopinath Vedula was the resource person. He spoke about: ‘Why India is still a developing country? What are the factors behind it?’ This session by Mr. Gopinath Vedula enlightened and inspired the students very much. The lecture was attended by the entire Social Sciences students.

Dept. of Mass Communication: 27th August: The Mass Communication department organized a guest lecture on ‘Reporting and Editing’ by Mr. U. Sudhakar Reddy, Sr. Asst. Editor of Times of India to all the B.A MPML students. He spoke about various types of reporting and shared his own experience about how he reported various issues.

Dept. of Botany: On 4th September the department organized extension lecture on Palynology & its Application. The resource person was Dr. P. Chaya, Asst. Professor, University College of Science, Saifabad. She emphasized the impact of Pollen on Human health which mostly induced allergy, Forensic Palynology and Melisso- Palynology.

Dept. of Microbiology: A guest lecture on ‘Microbial cell factories’ for M.Sc. Microbiology students was organized on 11th September, 2018. The resource person was Dr. Ramchander Turaga, Scientist, Dupont, Hyderabad.

Field Trips

Dept. of Chemistry: Educational trip to CSIR – Mrs. Rajashree National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) On the occasion of CSIR foundation day the UG and PG students visited the Hyderabad branch of National Environmental Engineering Research Institute - CSIR at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology campus on 26th September-2018. A brief talk on scientific innovation and contribution was delivered by Dr. S. Sastry. He also enlightened the students on social responsibilities and mitigation measures to be adopted to protect the environment. Dr. Shaik Basha, Scientist and Head CSIR – NEERI gave elaborate information about the innovation and scientific research for environmental protection taking place in CSIR- NEERI. Dr. Meganathan. PR of NEERI and Dr. Nageshwar Rao educated the students about the latest discovery of fold scope. A video was shown on the assemblage of fold scope. Later Students got the opportunity to identify the microorganism using fold scope. This trip to CSIR- NEERI branch at IICT campus was beneficial to the students and they got a clear picture of advanced research and recent innovations in the field of Environmental Science.

Dept. of Botany and Biotech: An educational field trip to Ananthagiri Hills, Vikarabad was organized for students of B. Sc. (Botany) II and III years on 14th August 2018.The aim of this trip was to acquaint the students Ananthagiri Hills about the biodiversity of Telengana and their effects on the environment. The trip helped the students to gain knowledge about medicinal plants, wild flora of Ananthagiri Hills and they also collected specimens for herbarium.

Club Activities

Dept. of Business Management: Synergy Club: Club activities were encouraged for the benefit of the students and the students were grouped in teams of 8-10. Each team was given an opportunity to host the event by organizing competitions on application of Bloom Taxonomy to the other participating teams. This activity is planned for training students based on deficiency model. A panel of faculty evaluated and provided feedback on strengths and areas of improvement. On the other hand, the hosting team evaluated the participating teams. Thus, synergy is created during the activity. The students participated in this activity learnt team skills, problem solving skills, decision making skills, contingency planning, organizing skills, communication skills and presentation skills. These activities are conducted in III semester and till date 8 activities were conducted. Synergy Club Activity Dept. of Botany & Biotech: Eco- Club: on 18th September 2018: Depts. of Botany and Biotech organized quiz and poster presentation on environmental issues on 18th September 2018. PHOTOGRAPHY: On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, the students of 2nd BA MPML took up activity named “Gift to Teachers”. The students were divided into three groups of Photographer,

Reporter & Editor. The Reporters had a task of collecting an Studio Debate original Quote from each lecturer in the college and the Photographers had to take candid pictures of those respective lecturers. The Editors had to merge those pictures & quotes accordingly. The edited pictures were put into a PPT Presentation & displayed on the LCD at the college entrance.

Dept. of Commerce: Spoorthy 31st July 2018: Spoorthy Club conducted Ice Breaking session and Selfie contest - “Commerce in daily life”. 18th September 2018: Poster presentation on the theme of “Cross cutting issues and Commerce”, and Quiz on “logo” were conducted. 8th September 2018: In collaboration with ED cell, Dept. of Commerce organized a stall of crafts – flowers making and painting in the college by the first year students who learnt to make the handmade items under certificate course offered in the college.

Dept. of Mathematics: PG- SIGMA CLUB 30 AUGUST 2018 (PG- SIGMA CLUB ACTIVITY) The department organized a club activity and conducted games, QUIZ, DUMBCHARADES, and JUMBLED WORDS for students. Events like Spontaneous Acting, Quiz and Memory game were also conducted in which students participated enthusiastically.

Dept. of Zoology: Zooic club Department of Zoology organised Zooic club activity for the year 2018-19. All the students of I, II and III MZC students participated in this activity. Chief guest Rev. Sr.Velangini inaugurated the programme and awarded the subject toppers of I, II and III MZC of the year 2017-18 with cash prize. Dept. of Political Science showed a documentary on Revolt of Independence 1857 26-June-2018 to the students of I BA (PPML & EPP). Students learned the causes of revolt which laid the foundation of Nationalism through Documentary.

On 20-July-2018, the students of I BA (PPML & MPML)were shown a documentary on Political Philosophy of famous political thinkers such as, Plato, Aristotle and Socrates. Students showed interest in watching the documentary as it would help them in understanding their subject better.

Class Seminar on Fundamental Rights On 04-July-2018: The students of 2nd year BA (PPML & EPP) presented seminars on Fundamental Rights of Indian citizens focusing on ‘What are Fundamental Rights?’ ‘How many types of Documentary on 1857 Revolt Fundamental Rights are there in the constitution?’ ‘Why do we need Fundamental Rights?’ and so on. Students presented the topics very creatively and some of them even came up with Power point presentations. Presentation on Directive Principles of State Policy. On 05-July-2018, the students of 2nd year BA (PPML & EPP) were asked to give a presentation on Directive Principles of State Policy. Department of Physics, on 18th August conducted National level ‘Anveshika’ Experimental Skills Test 2018 by Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). Students from high school, junior college, degree and post- graduiaton participated in this test. A parent teacher meet was organized on 8th October 2018 for second and final year UG students. Students Council 2018-19

Many vibrant events & programs like ramp walk, traditional, fusion, & western dances, & dazzling decoration were arranged on this day. ‘Miss Fresher’ competition was held & three winners were selected from a total 150 participants. The second year students organized the entertainment program & Miss Fresher Contest. Ms. Anne Keziah (MPML, 1st year) was declared Miss Fresher, with second & third runners up Manisha Sharon & Sowmya Sharma of 1st Year, MPML, respectively.

Dept. of Business Management: A fresher’s party was organized on 12th September 2018 on theme “Scintillating Retro Divas”. The day was filled with entertaining cultural program on theme Retro. The event had a series of rounds to crown the students with glorious titles encouraging their enthusiastic participation & presentation of their talents Ms. Kavya Kishore was titled as “Ms. Fresher”, Ms. Harshavardhini as I Runner up, Ms. G. Harika as II Runner up & Ms. Dhanusha as Ms. Talented.

Teachers’ Day Student Council organized Teacher’s day on 5th September 2018. Lecturers participated in various games which were held. A PPT presentation on Quotes of Wisdom by the faculty members were displayed by the students of BA MPML.

Teachers Day Celebrations

National Statistics Day

Independence Day Celebration On the occasion of 72nd Independence Day Celebrations this year, 2018 Dept. of Business Management organized several competitions on “Patriotism” to instill the sense of freedom in right sense. Elocution on “Freedom in True Sense”, Essay writing on the topic – “Is Independent India Dependent”, Group dance & Group singing on “Patriotism” were conducted. The students of III B.Sc BCMC won the III Prize & the students of I B.Sc BCMC Independence Day Celebrations won the first Prize in the dance competition. Ms. Sneha & Ms. Babuli participated in the Group singing Competition. Pole decoration & March past activities were taken care by Sports & NCC students. (II prize)

National Statistics Day Dept. of Statistics: Department of Statistics celebrated “National Statistics Day” on 14th July 2018. It is celebrated every year on the occasion of Birth anniversary of India’s eminent statistician Late Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis. It also commemorates the contributions made by PC Mahalanobis in the fields of statistics & economic planning. The theme for this 12th National Statistics Day is ‘‘Quality Assurance in Official Statistics’. Quiz competition on the subject for II & III M.S.Cs students. Poster presentation for I & II M.S.Cs students on ‘Role of Statistics in Nation Building’. G.Ramya- III M.S.Cs gave Power Point Presentation about P. C. Mahalanobis. M.Vinaika- II M.S.Cs gave Power Point Presentation on the Importance of Statistics in Daily Life. The department conducted various competitions for I, II & III year students General Quiz for I M.S.Cs & II B.com students.

St. Pious X Feast : Institution Day

St. Pious X College for Women celebrated its Institution Day ‘St. Pious X Feast’ on 21st August 2018 on the auspicious occasion of remembering our patron saint St. Pious X on his birthday. Dept. of Second Languages & Computer Science organized this event. The honorable Chief Guest Rev. Sr. Nirmala, Sr. Japamala, Correspondent, Sr. Velangini, St. Pious X Feast Principal, Prof. Kalidas, Principal- M.B.A College & Dr. Annie Sunil, H.O.D, English lighted the lamp. The celebrations lighted up the college with inspiration, zeal & excitement. The event started with an energetic welcome dance by the Piousians in a classical style followed by a beautiful & mesmerizing welcome song presented by the students from Mizoram. Verses from Bhagavad Gita, Quran & Bible were recited to respect the diversity & integrity of our nation. This was followed by an inspiring & motivational speech by the Chief Guest, Sr. Nirmala. A drama depicting the life of St. Pious X focused on the values of simplicity, charity, humanity, humility & faith in God. Then there were many emotional & realistic performances on the themes of Saving Girl Child & saving the environment that ended up the audience in tears. The results were declared by Sr. Nirmala presenting the shields to the winners & the runners up. The Student Council Vice President Ms. Selah Debbarma proposed vote of thanks.

Dept. of Hindi organized ‘Hindi Day’ celebrations on 14th September, 2018. On this occasion students of 1st year B.A & B.Com participated with great enthusiasm & exhibited their Hindi Day talent in Singing, Group Discussion & Debate.

Dept. of Telugu organized ‘TELANGANA BASHA DINOSTAVAM’ (Telangana language day) on 9th September 2018. After formation of Telangana state, government declared KALOJI NARAYAN`S birthday as TELANGANA BASHA DINOSTAVAM. Students participated with great enthusiasm. The participants were Panuganti Siri Dhatri (1st B.com CS), Chandana (1st B.com CS) Navya Sree (1ST B.A PPML). All the students collected information on KALOJI NARAYANA, as well as Telugu Day Telangana dialect & language.

Dept. of Sanskrit celebrated ‘SANSKRIT DAY’ on 25.10.2018. On this occasion Department conducted ‘News reading’ competition in Sanskrit for the II year students. Students participated enthusiastically. Best performers were awarded prizes.

Flood Relief

St. Pious X Degree & P G College took up an initiative to help the Kerala flood victims by raising funds to help the affected people. Teaching, non-teaching staff & students came forward to help the people generously. A sum of four lakh seven thousand rupees was raised for the relief fund. Kudos to the spirit of St. Pious X.

On 8th September 2018 Depts. of Social Sciences & Second Languages organized a Share–a-meal program at Divya Disha Foundation, Annapurna Nagar, Bod Uppal, Mallpur Road. A fund of Rs. 5070 was raised by the students of BA (EPP, PPML, MPML) with which provisions were purchased and donated to the orphanage.

Support a Slum

Dept. of Social Sciences on 8th September 2018 visited Murukula Basti at Nacharam, donated clothes, stationery & Groceries to the people.

Dept. of Mathematics & Statistics along with 15 students from B.Sc went to Murukula Basti which is located at IDA Mallapur, Hyderabad on 09th September 2018. They distributed books & stationery items to the school going children, bed sheets & clothes to old people. Murukula Basti Children

Departmental Extension Activities

Dept. of Zoology organized an extension activity at Government Wesley School. III MZC Students Srilekha, Srija, Chandana & T. Supriya visited the school & presented a talk on Importance of Girl Child, girl child empowerment, and holistic development. The school students of class 8th& 9th participated in Student Leaders Interaction the program. ITC Classmates note books & other stationery were distributed to the school students.

Handloom Expo Dept. of Social Sciences organized a Handloom expo to promote Handloom industry in the state. Staff members, students & people from neighborhood benefited from the expo. The products were 100% natural, handmade & dyed with natural colors. The price of the clothes were Handloom Expo reasonable in cost with high quality.

PEARL: PIOUS EMPOWERMENT AND REACH OUT PROGRAMME FOR LEARNING

On every Friday from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm our student volunteers took classes at two Government schools-Wesley Government school and Nacharam Government School to help the students in various subjects and in grooming their soft skills. PEARL initiative

National Social Service Swachh Bharath Summer Internship program: St. Pious X Degree & PG College for Women, took up 100 hrs Swachh Bharath Summer Internship Program for 15 days i.e. from 19th June to 3rd July 2018 as per the guidelines of Government of India, at Erkalabasthi, Nacharam, with an aim to develop Skill & Orientation to student volunteers towards Swachhtha revolution. 15 final year Students of undergraduate course enrolled for the program Swachh Bharat Awareness under the nodal officer Mrs. CH.S.R. Hymavathi. (NSS PO Unit-II) The different activities taken up were: 1. Awareness campaigns on cleanliness, 2) Door to door campaigning on sanitation 3) Awareness campaigns on disposal of waste 4) Rallies on awareness of Swachhtha 5) Swachtha mela on demonstration of construction of Compost pits & the advantages of using compost pits. 6) Street Cleaning 7) Bringing awareness of Swachh Bharat program through wall painting on public walls. Student volunteers actively & enthusiastically took up this program & were appreciated by the local people for their service

Yoga Day: (21st June 2018) On account of International Yoga Day, 21st June 2018, Ms. Vanisree, NSS PO Unit-I, organized a program on Yoga in college auditorium, for NSS Volunteers with Yoga guru Mr. Prithvi Raj from Patanjali organization. 50 NSS volunteers along with two NSS committee members attended the yoga Yoga Day programs organized by NSS, Osmania University (Venue: Osmania University garden).

State NSS Training Program on PFMS & EAT Module On 13th July 2018, Mrs. Ch. S. V. R.Hymavathi NSS PO Unit-II attended one day Telangana state NSS training program on Public Financial Management System (PFMS & EAT module, at Osmania university conducted by NSS, Osmania University. Orientation Program NSS Training Program An Orientation program for 1st year B.Com, BA, BBA and B.Sc students was arranged. For B.Sc students MS. Vanisree, NSS PO Unit-I explained about the activities of the NSS units of college & Mrs. CH.S.V.R. Hymavathi, NSS PO Unit-II explained for B.Com/BA/BBA. Selection for NIC camp: (August 2018) Two NSS volunteers Sushma, NSS unit-I Shruthi, NSS unit- II attended National Integration camp selections conducted in the month of August.

Blind March 100 NSS volunteers along with NSS PO Mrs. CH.S.V.R. Hymavathi participated in 2Km Blind fold walk, Sight-A- Blind March Thon- a joint initiative of Government of Telangana, SAKSHAM & NPCB, on 9th Sep 2018. This program is a part of National movement for prevention & mitigation of Corneal Blindness in India, Cornea Andhatv Mukt Bharath Abhiyan (CAMBA) & Eye donation fornight. Some of the NSS volunteers donated their eyes on this Occasion.

nd Swachh Bharat program: (2 October, 2018) 80 NSS volunteers, with NSS PO’S of Unit- I & II, Ms. Vanisree & Mrs. CH.S.V.R. Hymavathi, actively participated in the Swachh Bharat program , organized by Government of Telangana at MGBS on account of Gandhi jayanthi. The service provided by NSS volunteers Swachh Bharat at MGBS was greatly appreciated.

Dept. of Botany & Biotechnology: Global Youth Biodiversity Network affiliated to United Nations, called applications for Telangana Biodiversity Fellowship Programme to record the progress of AICHI biodiversity targets of India. Our students attended the interview & got selected for the fellowship & are volunteering for various workshops organized by Telangana State Forest Academy.

On 25th August 2018 Shaik Shaheen, Nazmeen , Archana, Global Youth Biodiversity Network Akshya, Mahalakshmi & Srujana, Akhila from II BtBC and MBC attended fellowship workshop of Biodiversity network.

On 07th September 2018 fellowship members Shaik Shaheen, Naazmeen & Akhila Rao visited Mansanpally Biodiversity Management Committee & surveyed the local farmers about the biodiversity & farming techniques of the village.

One week Asian Workshop from 14th -21st October 2018 was attended by Shaik Shaheen Global Youth Biodiversity Network (fellowship member) II BtBC & gained knowledge about youth mobilization, advocacy, networking skills, monitoring & convention on biodiversity policies.

Dept. of Zoology: Dept. of Zoology organised a Two day Industry Academia Interface “Paper Recycling Programme” MoU with ITC WOW & collected 3157 tons of papers for recycling .The highest contribution from the student was Meena Jat 71 kg of paper from I MZC & Dept. of Biochemistry 165 kg. All the students, Departments & Neighborhood participated enthusiastically in this programme. ITC classmate books & stationery were given in return & participation certificates were given by ITC WOW to all the participants.

I Session:Awareness Talk on Biodiversity: The Dept. of Zoology visited Harina Mahaveer Deer Park, along with I, II & III MZC & IIIMGC students in collaboration with Telangana Forest Department. Guest speaker Dr. Shankaran Addl. IFS, Telangana Forest Department, Hyderabad emphasized on the importance of National Park Biodiversity, ecological balance Aesthetic values & wild life conservation. II Session: Snake Show- Department of Zoology organized Snake Show in collaboration with Telangana Forest Department & FOS ( Friend Of Snakes).Mr. Ashish & Ms. Akshitha Resource person from FOS highlighted on difference between Poisonous snakes & Non Poisonous snakes, benefits of snakes in an ecosystem, Myths about snakes, remedies of snake Nature Consevation Day bite.

III Session:Internship Programme Telangana Forest Department organized Estimation of animals in Vanasthalipuram Deer Park. All I, II & III MZC & III MGC students participated in this program & the report of their study on the animals was submitted to Mr. Swami. World Animal Welfare Day World Animal Welfare Day: Quiz Dept. of Zoology Celebrated on 4th October 2018: The students of II MZC & IMZC participated in World Animal Welfare Day in collaboration with ARPF. They visited Govt. Wesley School & addressed the students of V, VI, VII & VIII on endangered, endemic species under wild life conservation & welfare. Volunteers conducted quiz competition & distributed classmate books among the students.

E-WASTE COLLECTION: Dept. of Physics in collaboration with RECYKAL Private Limited, Hyderabad has organized an awareness campaign on hazards of e-waste in the campus & neighborhood from 10th July to 10th August 2018. The E- waste consisting of various used electronic devices like Monitors, Printers , Incubators, Mosquito bats, cell phones Charges, Watches etc. were collected from the student & neighborhood & sent to ‘RECYKAL Private Limited’, Hyderabad for recycling in a eco-friendly way. Sexual Harassment against Women

A session on Sexual Harassment against Women at Work Places Act in India was conducted on 15th September 2018 for the students of MBA 2nd year & the resource person was Ms. Varsha Bhargavi - State Advisor to Child Rights Protection Forum (CRPF). Govt.of Telangana & special activists. Ms. Varsha spoke about recognizing Gender Discrimination & Women’s Rights pertaining to Sexual Harassment against Women at Work Places Sexual Harassment against Women Act in India. She is an active campaigner of #I Will Go Out, for women’s rights to reclaim public spaces.

Human Rights Resource Centre, BIRDS: - Brothers Integrated Rural Development Society, Bangalore, organised a Two Day Human Rights Defenders Training and Peace Building in St. Pious X Degree and PG College for women, Nacharam, Hyderabad in collaboration with Department of English. The Pious X Placement Cell has a MoU with TASK & organizes various collaborative program to facilitate Student Placements.

TASK registration

TASK (Telangana Academy for Skill & Knowledge) Registration for the academic year 2018-2019 for both UG & PG courses was done on 8th June 2018.

Orientation program

Orientation program on Placements was conducted for final year students by Mr. Anil, Relations Manager, Telangana, TASK on 6th JULY 2018 following which the students started registering for TASK.

Department of LIS Conducted user orientation program to the fresher i.e., First year Degree students. Library Staff introduced library resources & services & issued library borrowing cards. This Academic year 2018-19, the library staff conducted 20 class wise orientation sessions to build up positive relations with our users & make sure St Pious Libraries as a part of their success.

On 72nd Independence Day LIS conducted “Build Your Library Program” at MPP Government School, Narapally, Ghatkesar (Mandal), Medchal (Dt). Mrs S.Suneetha, Librarian, interacted with students & explained the importance of the school library & donated 38 Telugu Books to Book Donation Program the Head master. She motivated the students to read good books & also to acquaint themselves with Telugu Literature.

On 23rd October, 2018 “Star Users Meet” was organized at Degree Library as an extra facility to the rank holders. Library Committee selected 37 Toppers from UG classes as star users & presented them Star User Cards to utilize library resources optimally for their studies.

T. Geetha from B.Com III year secured Gold in Boxing Inter -College Open Selections, 2018-19. She also got selected for All India Boxing Championship to be held at Manipur.

Athletics Intercollegiate Tournament

Our college participated in Osmania T. Geetha University Inter –Collegiate Tournaments. On 1st& 2nd October, 2018-2019 Osmania University Athletics Intercollegiate Tournament was conducted at Balayogi stadium, Gachibowli, Our student athlete Irin Dilna Santy from B.A (MPML) II year and Yasmeen from B.Com (CS) final year won Silver in Long Jump and Hammer throw.

Our college successfully participated in the above cited tournament. The Invitation Tournament organized by Reliance Foundation, Youth Sports on 3rd, 4th & 5th October, 2018-19, held at Balayogi Stadium, Gachibowli. Above 20,000 athletes registered, 5000 events held, 3500 institutes from 14 cites, 14 disciplines and 8 categories participated. C. Saileja (sports secretary) from B.com final year and Irin Dilna santy from II year B.A. (MPML) from our college got selected for Nationals at Mumbai from 14th to Winners at the Tournament by Reliance 16th November 2018-19.

Our college was awarded Best among all other colleges ,yes we clinched the tournament by securing First position in overall and we won the cash award of rupees 25000/- .

National Cadet Corps @ St. Pious X

NCC Orientation for NCC Juniors was arranged (I yr. B.Sc., B.Com, BA, BBA) on 9th July 2018

Mrs. Sugantha Mala, Coordinator for NCC emphasized the importance of NCC in their future. Student’s names were enrolled for the selection into NCC for the academic year 2018-19.

Investiture ceremony held on 28th July 2018

All senior NCC cadets escorted the selected council members of the college and the Investiture Ceremony cadets were made responsible for maintaining discipline throughout the program.

Selection for Cadets (juniors) on 13th August 2018

The eligible candidates were taken for selection which was held at Anwar-ul-uloom College, Mallepally, Nampally. Physical fitness, was the basic criteria for selection. The selections were done by the ANO staff (Army personnel).

The cadets were ranked according to their capabilities, seniors under officer- Meghana Rao and Juniors Under officer- Sai Likitha, Sergent - Shireesha.

The Team NCC with Ms. Sunganthmala Independence Day celebration (Drill) on 15th August 2018 On Independence Day the cadets escorted the Chief Guest Prof Kalidas. Drill and March Past was performed in an efficient manner.

Republic Day Selections (RDC) -20th August 2018

The cadets attended a 10 day camp at NCC Directorate - Secunderabad. The cadets were trained to perform drill perfectly. After vigorous training finally 3 cadets Sai likitha – II MScs, Divya- I MGC and Sharmila II B.Com (R) were selected for the ‘Inter Unit Camp’- IUC.

Sight-A-Thon- Blind Fold Rally – 2nd September 2018

NSS students and NCC cadets participated in the sight-A-Thon rally a blind fold walk, which was held at people’s plaza near Necklace road, Hyderabad. The NCC cadets were given the responsibility to guard the Honors. Later the NCC cadets joined the rally and supported the cause. “Donate Eyes Live Twice”. College was awarded a memento.

1. 1(T) AIR SQN NCC- 1st camp of the unit. Annual training camp for “c” certificate and it is also Prevayu Sainik camp from 7th August -16th August. 2. 4(T) AIR SQN NCC- 2nd camp in Warangal from 12th Sept-21stSep. It’s an intergroup competition for Vayu Sainik Camp (Air wing). 3. 10(T) BN NCC- 3rd Camp at Warangal 1st Training for All India Vayu Sainik Camp from 03rd Oct-12th Oct. She was one Air Wing Cadets among the 45 cadets who were selected from 7 groups. 4. 11 (T) BN NCC- 4th Camp at Warangal, the 2ndtraining and launching camp from 13th Oct- 22nd Oct. 5. ALL INDIA VAYU SAINKI CAMP- JODHPUR RAJASTHAN Attended 12 day camp from 28th Oct-04th Nov. Competitions were held between 16 Directorates all over India. 1(T) AIR stood 5th place.
