REGIONAL EXPLORATION PROPOSAL FOR LIMESTONE IN GOTHRA - PARASRAMPURA BLOCK, TEHSIL- NAWALGARH DISTRICT- JHUNJHUNU,

SYNOPSIS

1. Mineral : Limestone - 2. Location : The area is located about 30 Kms. due south of Nawalgarh town in the District Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. The area falls under the Survey of toposheet No. 45M/5 and bounded by Latitude 27046’5.00” to 27047’45.00” & Longitude 75019’50.00” to 75023’10.00”. It is about 160 Kms. From and about 250 Kms. From Delhi. Area is well connected by metaled road and can be approached upto through NH-11, which is around 115 Kms. from Jaipur. The Nawalgarh town is about 35 Kms. from Sikar on Sikar Jhunjhunu state highway. The area is also connected with Rail route.

3. Exploiting : National / Private Agency 4. Background : Department of Mines and Geology, Rajasthan undertook systematic geological mapping in parts of toposheet No. 45M/5 with the objective of delineation of limestone bands. The Limestone is exposed in quarries and pits under soil cover. The area between Basawa and Parasrampura is generally flat with little undulations of desert sand and entire area is covered by cultivated fields and desert sand. The prospecting of limestone was started in the year 1980-81 west of the proposed block DMG Rajasthan carried out regional geological mapping on 1:10,000 scale along with collection of samples from different quarries. Limestone and ultrabasic rocks outcropped in the quarries were marked under detailed geological mapping. To find continuity of limestone bands beyond quarries under thick soil cover the scheme of drilling in few scout boreholes was taken up in the year 1983-84 and a total of 305.05 m drilling was carried out in four inclined boreholes. DMG Rajasthan again in the year 1992-93 carried out exploration along SW continuity of proposed block. Subsequently DMG Rajasthan carried out exploration between 1994-1999 by close spaced drilling. A total of 29 boreholes were drilled in which all the bore holes intersected limestone band below a cover of desert sand. The thickness of limestone bands intersected in the boreholes varies between 2.65 m to 90.00 m. However, it has been observed that all the boreholes were closed within limestone as a result total thickness of limestone could not be deciphers. DMG Rajasthan has not carried out exploration in the proposed area; however they have carried out exploration in western part of the block i on the basis of results in the western part, DMG Rajasthan offered exploration work to MECL through NMET to delineate the continuity of limestone bands in Parasrampura block.

MECL scrutinized the DMGR report of Gothra Block and prepared a detailed exploration proposal in Parasrampura block.

5. Objectives : The following are the objectives of proposed exploration : i) To delineate the strike and depth continuity of limestone and drill boreholes at closer space at close grid (400m x 400m) ii) To establish the continuity of limestone bed along strike and depth. iii) To estimate grade wise Limestone resources as per UNFC norms of G-3 level of exploration

7. Time Schedule & : 16 Month & Cost Estimate Rs 424.51 Lakhs

8. Justification : i) Proposed detailed exploration will be a systematic exploration (400x400m interval). ii) The proposed exploration programme will be helpful in demarcating various grades of limestone in the block as per UNFC norms. iii) DMG Rajasthan has already established limestone deposit towards SW of the proposed block. The present block is in NE continuity of the explored block. This block will be useful for setting up cement / limestone based industries in the area along with the explored block.
