Brown Law School Prep Program, (2004 – Present), https://jjcronaldhbrown.wordpress.com A collaboration between St. John’s University School of Law, Department of Latin American and Latinx Studies Department at John Jay College, St. John’s University Undergraduate, York College, and United Negro College Fund Schools.  Direct, research, and teach for an academic credit bearing 3-year law school prep program aimed at diversifying legal profession.  Teach in the law school summer portion of the program.  Develop internships for students with ACLU, NYS Attorney General, District Attorney and Unified Court System, to name some partners, for internship/research opportunities related to social justice issues.  Supervise college and law students interested in human & civil rights and prison pipeline prevention.  Create, direct, and teach law classes at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY to first generation and low income and/or underrepresented students in the program.  Yielded approximately $6-8M+ per year in scholarships over past 7 years, 100% of students who took the LSAT accepted to law school, and 100% of 2017 students accepted with scholarship, including multiple Dean Fellows and joint degree candidates.  Conduct research on pipeline education, compile data, write grants and grant reports, and produce related scholarship publications and national presentations.  Provide consultation services to governments and universities across US and Caribbean interested in creating legal pipeline education programs. 1

Co-Director, John Jay College Study Abroad Program in the Dominican Republic, (2009 – 2010)  Co-supervised and instructed over 28 undergraduate and graduate students conducting border conflict fieldwork investigations on the Dominican-Haitian border.  Taught Comparative Perspectives on Crime in the Caribbean course.  Provided co-supervision to John Jay College’s Comparative Law Internship in the Office of the Attorney General of the Dominican Republic.  Assisted in organizing and supervising fieldtrips including, but not limited to “La Victoria” super-max, other model prisons, and governmental and non-governmental organizations.  Conducted fieldwork observations and interviews with all aspects of law enforcement and judiciary throughout island, including Haitian-Dominican border.  Provided support to local NGOs dedicated to assist in providing re-entry support to formerly U.S. incarcerated deported Dominican citizens.

Outcomes/Assessment Coordinator, Latin American & Latina/o Studies Department, (2013 – 2017)  Led faculty team generating outcomes and assessments for College General Education Requirements (Pathways) and departmental major to ensure learning outcomes were being met.  Compiled assessment reports for department and college’s administration.  Led Adelante! Program - aimed at retention of Latina/o and low income students at our Hispanic Serving Institution and gather related data on comparative Latina/o student retention.

2017 – Present Founder, President and CEO of the Hurricane Maria Assistance & Relief Institutional Alliance, Inc. (H-MARIA), Hurricane MARIA, Inc., (formerly known as an effort named Doctors for Maria Relief) A non-profit 501c3, incorporated for the charitable purpose of aiding persons who are victims of natural disasters occurring in Puerto Rico or elsewhere in the Caribbean. RESEARCH EXPERIENCE 2017 – Present Domestic Violence in Puerto Rico Project, Director, www.dvpr.weebly.com  Created website research platform via experiential learning project with law and undergraduate students to compile primary and other data on the status of domestic violence pre and post Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico.  Document the needs of domestic violence shelters in Puerto Rico.  Create ability to connect Puerto Rico domestic violence shelters with sources of fundraising support on the continental United States and globally.  Promote domestic violence statistics compiled by Seguimiento de Casos to raise awareness of the violence against women and girls in Puerto Rico.

2015 – 2018 American Civil Liberties Union End Mass Incarceration Fellow – Sabbatical License 2015-2016  Co-Principal Research Investigator for the ACLU of Puerto Rico Prison Project.  Work with ACLU attorneys and interns on Prison Project data compilation.  Conduct primary research on Puerto Rico’s Correctional Facilities.  Compile data and work to generate a report on the status of human and civil rights of Puerto Rico’s prisons, prison inmates, formerly incarcerated persons and their families.  Supervise law interns and attorneys working on the Prison Project.

2013 University of Puerto Rico, Center for Labor Studies, Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico Guest Lecturer and Researcher – Sabbatical License  Supervised advanced undergraduate students participating in Research Methods course on domestic violence investigations.

 Taught bilingual curriculum on domestic violence and its impact on global economy.  Trained students to create research instruments, data collection and interpretation of domestic violence crimes with a focus on Puerto Rico, but including Latin American and Caribbean.  Assisted students with human subject research certification and supervised translation projects.

2012 – 2013 InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico School of Law, San Juan, Puerto Rico Scholar-in-Residence – Sabbatical License  Led research study of Puerto Rico Court’s handling of domestic violence cases under Law 54 with permission granted by the Puerto Rico Administrative Office of the Courts.  Co-supervised law students studying alternative sentencing program for first time aggressors of domestic violence entitled “Desvio”.  Observed monitoring systems utilized by Department of Corrections to track domestic violence aggressors. Interviewed Department of Correction’s CEO and other high level staff.  Gathered research information on monitoring systems and “Desvio” program.  Provided community trainings to Carolina/San Juan counties on domestic violence and international human rights law.  Conducted group interviews on domestic violence in Puerto Rico, police handling of domestic violence cases, and domestic violence protections for LGBTQ community.  Co-taught law school seminar to law students entitled Vulnerable Populations.  Led domestic violence research investigation, developed research instrument, and observed proceedings at specialized domestic violence courts around the island.  Conducted 150+ research interviews with jurists, scholars, victims, NGOs, local governmental office and law enforcement officials, and federal officials.  Engaged judges about cases observed, and followed cases from their initial filings to trial.  Participated in interviews with attorneys in special domestic violence cases and observed legal development of high profile domestic violence cases.  Conducted similar interviews with NGOs and community-based organizations as well as with prosecutors and defense attorneys.  Documented legal arguments and recorded outcomes of legislative proceedings. Participated in related academic conferences.  Supervised law/undergraduate students on promoting educational awareness campaigns to build tolerance in local communities.  Examined newly elected governor’s signing of bill into law which provided protection for same sex couples under Law 54, the existing domestic violence law in Puerto Rico.  Interviewed Head of Puerto Rico Police Department’s Domestic Violence Division and officers regarding Federal Police Monitor’s Case file by the US government against PRPD.

2012 – 2013 Administrative Office of the Courts, Director’s Office, San Juan, Puerto Rico Puerto Rico Judiciary Researcher - Sabbatical License  Participated in Interagency Commission to oversee handling, prevention and processing of cases of domestic violence by governmental departments.  Discussed/defined issues in handling domestic violence cases, coordinated interagency communications, developed interagency communication best practices.  Supervised research interns in Puerto Rican judiciary’s processing of domestic violence cases.
