tl s VICE -PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

To the graduating class whose pictures appear in this year1 s edition: The greatest need of our graduates to-day is a sense of purpose. This sense of purpose is often lacking in the individual because it is sometimes lacking in our educational philosophy. The graduates must have realized their sense of purpose because they have not forgotten that they are heirs to a great Canadian tradition which regarded public education as our nation's greatest single asset and source of strength.

To those who remain and whose pictures appear in this year's edition: - - This is a period of great scientific advancement and the threshold of a glorious economic future for Canada. We need young men and women with vision and judgment to take their place in society and these attributes can only be attained through education.

I hope that, in the future, I may look through this 1965 Rebelogue and re flect that many whose pictures I shall see have achieved a sense of purpose and are living satisfying and useful lives in our society.

S. Krewench, Vice- principal.

2 MR. PENTLAND SPEAKS:

Our modern society has made the attainment of a good standard of living pos sible for all. Too frequently, however, we forget that this basic standard is the result of the extra efforts and abilities of those with special talents and the capacity for hard work. True·, monetary rewards usually accrue to those who con tribute to society, more than the average; yet the highest satisfaction comes to the man who truly serves his fellow men. To him service is the goal, not financial reward. To him the unwillingness to settle for anything less than his best effort is a driving force. To him the pursuit of leisure is a race for other, misguided, men.

Very soon you will be engaged in writing your final examinations of the year. I wish you good luck! Yet luck really has very little to do with the s:1ccess you will be seeking. The truly successful students will be those who have shown them - selves ready for the promotion they desire. These are the young people who have displayed industry and diligence; who have shown eager, e nquiring minds; who have tried to do things just a little better than the other fellow; who have disciplined themselves to do what is required- -and more. They have shown, in short, ma turity in the pursuit of excellence.

Excellence means many things, but to you as a student it is competing with yourself, doing your individual best, developing to the full talents you possess. Only by making the most of what you are can you attain full happiness in service to your God and fellow men. REBELOG UE STAFF

5 EDITORIAL

This is the finished product - Rebelogue '65. Our yearbook for the school year 1964-65 is an excellent example of the hard work of both staff and students to whom my thanks is due, because without their time and effort this book might never have materialized. However, I cannot thank the Rebelogue staff without thanking those students whose academic, athletic and cultural efforts have given cause for a yearbook. To those of you who have endured weeks of practices and rehearsals, who have given freely of your time to various student activities - it is to your zeal and energy that this book is dedicated. To those students whose participation as spectators gave incentive and en couragement to our teams and clubs, I say that your contribution was immeasurable. Only when the spirit and enthusiasm of spectator and participant jointly permeate all extracurricular activities and each of us strives for academic achievement, can a building of brick, mortar and apparatus be transformed into a living united school. It is only through the efforts of all that Riverside High can build a new tradition to inspire and en courage students. The new R. H. S. is establishing this new tradition - a history to be proud of. Be proud in knowing your school is II the best. 11 It is my sincere wish that in future years this yearbook will success fully recapture this past year for you. To the graduates who will no longer know the carefree days of R. H. S. , who must now chart the course of their lives - May you always remember the home of the "Rebels."

A. competition, however all played well and hope to do better next year. The junior team captain was Donna Preswick with Jill Patterson, Judy Palmiere, Lesley Cutter, Kim Fellows, Beth Holland, Pat Kelly, Carol Wilkinson, Linda Delisle and Michele Haugh as regular players while Gail Atkins and Vicky Lade were substitutes. The senior team of Melody Stanley, Darlene Delisle, Carol Menna, Marie Valkonen, Sue Talako, Norma Taylor, Linda Henderson, Diane Prime, Sue Beren, Marg Woodall and captain Penny Oke had a successful year. 1964 FOOTBALL This year's senior football team had its ups and downs (more downs than ups). Under new coach, Mr. Day, the team worked very hard in the mornings, noon-hours, and after school each day. The only breaks that the Rebs obtained were Rino Ghetti's broken leg, Jay Jones' broken finger, and Rob Hornsey' s bad leg. However, even with these the team managed to win one game, which was one more than anyone thought we would win. Leading the defensive stars was Alan Dresser, followed by Jay Jones, Rob Hornsey, Mark Dewolfe, John Woodall, John Musselman, and Bill Ruiter. The offensive team was led by our quarterback, Bill Kell, and the fine running of Andy Stewart, Mike Haugh, Dan Fraser, and Brian Prime. The Junior team won the Essex County Junior title--a win which looks promising for the future. However, the great leaders of both these teams were the coaches: Mr. Day, Mr. Snyder, Mr. Giroux, Mr. Issell, and Mr. Langlois. Without them it would not have been as good a year as it was.
