Purpose of the role

Hear and Say supports schools to enhance the academic chances for all children by ensuring both the child and the school are ready to listen and to learn. Students struggling to hear in the classroom have specific needs and are at risk, if left undiagnosed, of under- achieving without appropriate listening, speaking and language support. The ‘Hear to Learn’ school hearing screening program has now screened over 280 schools and more than 33,000 school children. Results have found that almost 23% of students screened have a hearing issue on the day of screening and are not hearing at their optimum in the classroom. If they can’t hear, they can’t learn.

The purpose of this position is to deliver an in-school hearing screening service. This role will primarily be offsite and responsible for delivering hearing screening services locally and across regions throughout Queensland.

Key responsibilities

This role will be responsible for:

• Providing a range of standardised screening audiological tests on children aged from 4 years • Making recommendations based on the results • Working as part of the School Screening team ______

Basis for selection

The following selection criteria are required to successfully do the job:

• Applicants with qualifications in and eligibility for ACAud, with several years’ experience will be highly regarded. A clinical or teaching qualification and / or relevant experience will be viewed favourably as well as training will be provided. • Preferably, have worked in paediatric environment and have a passion for helping children with hearing loss as well as possess personal values that align to our caring and inclusive family-based culture. • Thrive on working in a busy and dynamic work environment with a proven ability to work autonomously and use sound judgement whilst working under pressure. • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with a diverse range of external and internal stakeholders. • It is essential to have a current driver’s licence and a willingness to travel locally on a daily basis (up to 130km) and occasional travel to Central / Regional QLD (up to 3 nights away per month) • Meticulous attention to detail as well as very good time management, organisational and administrative skills. • Maturity and ability to use initiative with discretion. ______

Performance Standards

Key performance indicators link into our core values of: exploration, community, collaboration, integrity and joy will be periodically negotiated and agreed in probation meetings and via the performance coaching program.

• Completion of Hear to Learn product training and required assessments within 6 months of employment • Successfully completes quaterly conducted Clinical Audits • Completes the required number of school visits and students screened per day • Completes individual and overall school reports in specified timeframes
