12 PATTERNS of the ELITE SOFTBALL SWING By Swing Ken Brooke Kenbrookehitting.com

“YOU CAN’T FIX THE FLAWS YOU NEVER KNEW YOU HAD”

Former Team USA Olympic Softball players used in all illustrations

The Purpose of This Book: This book will educate high hitters to the Elite softball swing pattern. The best hitters in the game reach similar (if not identical) swing positions and it is the job of every hitter to understand this high level pattern and how it compares to their own swing. Mechanics are at the base of the hitting pyramid and recognizing and eliminating flaws in your swing is a vital first step in becoming a high level hitter. The players used in this booklet are all successful (former) Olympic Team USA hitters.

“There is no difference in hitting mechanics when comparing the best baseball and softball players in the world. The swing is the same!”

Pro Testimonials

Ken and I have worked several hitting clinics together and he is ahead of the curve when it comes to finding swing flaws and teaching high-level mechanics. He has provided me many pictures and analysis of my own swing. His knowledge of the elite pattern is very high and he knows how to teach it. Ben Zobrist ( Rays)

Ken has a refreshing take on breaking down the swing. The pictures in his book make all the difference. His analysis made me realize that I couldn’t have that good bat path unless I was using my legs and driving my hips through the zone. ---Josh Vitters () *Before Coach Brooke’s Analysis: (05/12 AAA CUBS): .248 avg .394 slg .687 ops *After Coach Brooke’s Analysis: (08/12 AAA CUBS): .304 avg .513 slg .869 op

Ken has a great eye for breaking down a swing and he understands what a high level swing looks like. ---Scott Coolbaugh (former MLB hitting coach and current hitting director, )

CONTENTS

Pattern 1: The Coil/Load Pattern 2: Early Bat Speed Pattern 3: Stride/Weight Shift to Balance Pattern 4: Connecting the Hands Pattern 5: Get on the Pitch Plane Early Pattern 6: Back Knee Initiates Rotation Pattern 7: Get on Pitch Plane Early Pattern 8: Back Shoulder Works Down Pattern 9: Head Stays Behind the Ball Pattern 10: Late Connection Pattern 11: Extension Pattern 12: Finish

Pattern 7: Get on the pitch plane early When the hitter keeps their hands back and connects them to their rotation, is much easier to get on the pitch plane early. This position is essential for increased efficiency and power. When the player gets on the pitch plane early, they are said to “hit in a big zone.”

Pattern 8: Back shoulder works down to the pitch It is impossible to get the barrel on the pitch plane early if the shoulder doesn’t work down . This position is key for hitting the knee high pitch. Notice how the swing is level to the body, not the ground.

Pattern 9: The head stays behind the ball After the weight shift to a balanced landing, the head stays still and the body rotates around its axis. There is no movement forward.

Pattern 11: Extension comes after contact Extension is not forced into contact. It is the result of a well connected, powerful swing.
