OUR CLUB AND COMMITTEE Our Club has a unique structure, with two divisions operating within the one club – Cherrybrook Senior & Little Athletics Centre Inc. Founded in 1994, our Junior Athletics division caters for Little Athletes aged from 5 to 16 years. Our Senior Athletics division, founded in 2001, caters for athletes aged 11 years and older competing at NSW Athletics events. The two divisions offer seamless transition from Little Athletics through to Junior and Senior Athletics. This season our club had 372 athletes plus five active officials. Little Athletics had 323 registrations and Seniors had 100 registrations, with 51 of those athletes having Dual membership. Our committee was made up of six executive members, 14 other members with voting rights and nine assistants to the committee.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Martin Lubrano There can be no doubt the 2020/2021 athletics season had its challenges – Covid-19 and its implications around organising and running safe community-based sporting events resulted in a late start to the season and management protocols to ensure safe participation for our athletes and attendance for parents, coaches, and officials. Championship opportunities normally offered to athletes were severely curtailed. It is a testament to the effectiveness of the Club that we were able to conduct a positive and successful season. Cherrybrook Athletics Club is a wonderful community sporting organisation. With the support of generous volunteers who serve on the committee and act as officials on Friday evenings and at championship events, the Club benefits from a strong community with a positive and encouraging tone. In 2020/2021 there was a combined membership of 372 athletes across Little Athletics, Seniors and Masters. These athletes are the lifeblood of the Club and they represent the Club with distinction. Throughout the Little Athletics season, 7700 Personal Best Friday night performances were recorded, 103 athletes were awarded Coloured Patches, 26 Little Athletics Club records were broken and one new record was established. Fifty-seven athletes represented the Club at the Little Athletics State Championships, achieving 22 medals (3 Gold, 11 Silver and 7 Bronze). Congratulations to State Gold medallists Gemma Dixon and Joel Moresi and Combined Event Gold medallist Robbie Cullen. Will Austin is also congratulated for his selection by LANSW for the Australian Little Athletics Championships. In Senior competition, more than 80 athletes represented the Club at State or National Championships, with 70 medals achieved at State Championships and 13 medals at Nationals. Our state titleholders include Julie Charlton, Kim Neuenkirchen, Nick Andrews, Alysha Burnett and Tayla Moore, and our National Champions Brianna Worsfold Julie Charlton and Kim Neuenkirchen. The Seniors Club came second in the Interclub Treloar Shield junior division, and Jill Taylor and Rob Clark received Masters Association awards for best Multi Event Athletes. Seniors athletes also broke or set 32 Club records, while Julie Charlton, James Gladman, Sara Kely, Kim Neuenkirchen, Sally Stagles and Jill Taylor all broke National Records. Thank you to Julie Charlton, who selected our Club to receive a $1000 Coles gift card when she broke the seated discus record at the Australian Championships. Our weekday and Friday night coaches have been instrumental in athletes regularly achieving personal bests. I thank all coaches who have assisted Cherrybrook athletes this season. This year we farewell John Sharpe as he retires from coaching after a 26-year association with Cherrybrook. John was a past Club president and he started the Seniors Club. I would like to particularly thank our 2020/2021 sponsors Coles, Divi Home Loans, 3Monkeez, Bakers Delight Cherrybrook, Hunter Pacific Ceiling Fans, and McDonald’s. Their support is greatly appreciated. The Cherrybrook Athletics Club committee has worked tirelessly to ensure we have been able to provide the best opportunities for our athletes to compete, learn skills and have fun. Committee work is voluntary, and I recognise each committee member for their service. I would like to particularly acknowledge outgoing committee members: life member Karin Webb, who has served on the committee for 11 seasons; life member Elizabeth Jones, also 11 seasons; life member Nicky Jenneke, a total of 14 seasons; and Charlene Stewart, who stepped down from the committee earlier in the season to move interstate. Also leaving the committee are Naomi Moore and Andrew Fisher. Collectively, there is more than 50 years of service between our outgoing committee members, and we are thankful to each of them for their contribution. Thank you to all our amazing officials who have officiated at events including Region, State and NSW and National Senior competitions and championships. Our age managers are invaluable to the smooth running of our Friday night programs and we are grateful for their care and support of our athletes. Additional thanks to the Northern Metropolitan Zone Committee, Hornsby Shire Council, St John Ambulance, and our parents/guardians for your continued support of our athletes and Club.

LONG SERVICE AWARDS This season we introduce our inaugural Long Service Award, to recognise the contribution of individuals who have served the Club for at least 20 years. This season we recognise John Sharpe, Mick Zisti and Valmé Kruger.

Life member John Sharpe is the Club’s longest-serving coach, having started coaching at Cherrybrook in 1995. John served on the committee from 1997 to 2016, including twice as president (1997-1999 and 2006-2012), and as Senior Club president (2012-2016). John wrote the Club’s first constitution and was integral in the start of the Senior Club. In April 2021, John announced his retirement after 26 years coaching at our Club. John has coached Jumps, Throws and Sprints and coached several athletes to international representation, including Amy Pejkovic who won Silver in at the World Junior Championships.

Mick Zisti has served as a Sprints and Hurdles coach since 1999, when he joined the Club when his son Daniel was 9. Mick continues in his coaching role with great success. Over his 22 years of service to the Club, he has developed some outstanding athletes including Olympian Michelle Jenneke, who he coached to a Hurdles Silver medal at the Youth Olympics and to represent Australia at the Rio Olympics.

Life member Valmé Kruger joined the club in 2000 with her young children Eugene and Zané. That same season Valmé began coaching Middle Distance, Distance and at Cherrybrook. In 2006 Valmé joined the committee as Coaching Coordinator. She continues to both coach athletes to reach their full potential, and serve on the committee – and is the longest-serving member of the current committee. Among Valmé’s successes, she coached Olympian Jenny Blundell to represent Australia at the Youth Olympics.

OUR LITTLE ATHLETICS SEASON Our 27th Cherrybrook Little Athletics season was challenging yet rewarding. Due to Covid-19, the Club and association were not confident we would have a season at all. Thankfully, our season began on 11 September with a very well- attended parent training and athlete coaching night. Competition began on 18 September and we achieved 19 competition nights throughout the season. We started with a Covid-19 restriction of 300 registered athletes and only 500 people allowed at Greenway Oval, limiting families to just one parent attending. While the season will be remembered for social-distancing, QR codes, hand sanitisers and uncertainty, more importantly it will be remembered as one of our most successful – with 26 records broken and one new record set, 56 athletes qualifying for State in 106 events, and 7700 personal best achievements. The weather was generally kind to us with only three nights cancelled due to rain – including both our Relay Night and Coloured Patch Night, but we hope members return next season to experience these. We did manage to achieve an inaugural Bandana Charity Night, a Ribbon Night, Multi Night and a Fun Night to celebrate the end of the season as well as the 50th Anniversary of Little Athletics in NSW. It was certainly not a typical season, with many championship events missing from the calendar including State Relays, Zone, Region and Nationals as well as the 2020 Cross Country and Race Walks. The pathway to State was, for the first time, based on qualifying standards and a qualifying meet for U9-U12 athletes. Our athletes and families rose above the challenges and excelled. While we look forward to a less challenging 2021/2022 season, we know as a Club we can overcome any hurdles. Well done to everyone who made this another great season of athletics at Cherrybrook.

ONE ATHLETICS This season Cherrybrook Athletics produced a video in support of One Sport which was used nationally by Little Athletics Australia and Athletics Australia in their promotion for the One Athletics concept. One Athletics is the merger between Little Athletics Australia and Athletics Australia to provide seamless transition for athletes, officials and coaches. The initiative hopes to pool resources and make better use of personnel as well as streamline the competition pathways between juniors and seniors.

SHORT COURSE CROSS COUNTRY 6 July 2020 This was the first season we have run a cross country since 2002/2003 and it was well received, with a high demand for more cross country opportunities within the Club next season. The event was coordinated by Justine Wallis and Nicky Jenneke, with assistance from committee members and parents/carers of participating athletes. Despite Covid-19 precautions, the night ran smoothly and was a great success. We were lucky to have special guests, Australian representative athletes Jenny Blundell (Olympic 1500m runner) and Georgia Winkcup (World Athletics Championships 3000m ) attend the event. Congratulations to all athletes who participated. We hope to see you at future cross country events.

BANDANA CHARITY NIGHT 27 November 2020 Canteen is an amazing charity that provides support to young people affected by cancer, whether through personal diagnosis or someone close to them. As a Club we raised more than our goal of $700, which will go towards counselling and individual support, peer support, youth cancer services, leadership and the Robots Project. Thank you to Justine Wallis and Angela Maclaine, and all of those people who helped, and most importantly all Club members for making the night so successful. An obstacle course complete with water balloons was created for a fun part of the night while our special guest, Australian athlete Sara Klein (Athletics World Championships 400m Hurdles), spoke about her event and life as a professional athlete – which many of our young athletes enjoyed.

RIBBON NIGHT 5 March 2021 Over the past few years Ribbon Night has been held exclusively for U6 athletes who did not have the opportunity to compete at Zone. This season, with the cancellation of Zone for U7-U17 athletes due to Covid-19, the committee decided to run Ribbon Night for all U6-U17 athletes. Ribbon Night was attended by 188 athletes, with a total of 251 personal bests and four centre records. The night was coordinated by Justine Wallis with the assistance of age managers and some coaches. It was based on Program 2 with a few modifications including novelty relays for U6-U7 athletes and additional middle-distance races. The first three placegetters in each event were awarded a ribbon:

FUN NIGHT AND 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF LANSW 26 March 2021 The Club celebrated the last night of the season with a Fun Night and celebration of 50 years of Little Athletics in NSW. It began with a novelty warm-up lap of the oval and then our athletes gathered in the shape of a 50 for a photo, all throwing water balloons into the air as a drone flew overhead capturing the fun. There were eight activities run by the committee – including a giant blow-up slide, trampolining acrobatics onto the high jump mats, novelty relays, water play and more – which athletes rotated through in age groups. The sights and sounds on the night were a great indication that both athletes and parents alike enjoyed the night.

LITTLE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

REGION 5 STATE QUALIFYING MEET 6-7 February 2021, Narrabeen Academy of Sport With the 2020 Zone Championships cancelled due to Covid-19, U9-U12 athletes had to be selected via qualification standards to compete at the Region 5 State Qualifying Meet. We had 52 junior athletes qualify in 136 events, with 50 attending across a sunny weekend – resulting in 63 top eight performances. As this was not a championship event, but rather a qualifying event, there were no medals – however we achieved 20 top three performances which would ordinarily have been podium finishes, including four firsts for Joel Moresi. Our placegetters were:

FIRST: Joel Moresi (U12B) 400m, 800m, 1500m, High Jump; Oliver Penn (U9B) 700m Walk; Gemma Dixon (U10G) 1100m Walk

THIRD: Abigail Wigham (U9G) 70m; Charithu De mel (U10B) 400m; Harry Wigham (U11B) 200m; Claudia Wyatt (U11G) 1500m; Ruby Semaganda (U12G) Long Jump, Triple Jump; Edward Darby (U12B) Shot Put; Gabriella Omage (U10G) 70m, 100m; our boys 4x100m relay team Xavier Thomas (U9B), Charithu De mel (U10B), Harry Wigham (U11B) and Joel Moresi (U12B); our girls 4x100m relay team Abigail Wigham (U9G), Gabriella Omage (U10G), Claudia Wyatt (U11G) and Sophie Durheim (U12G)

In total, 17 Cherrybrook athletes qualified for state in 27 events

Unfortunately, Covid-19 restrictions meant we were unable to have Nicky’s games area, cheer squads and team activities (other than a few scavenger hunts) however there was still plenty of team spirit, support and encouragement from Cherrybrook athletes and spectators. Thank you to all parents who performed duties, and especially those parents who stepped in without fuss to do a duty or job at the last minute. Many thanks to all those people who acted as officials or assisted with duties when they did not have an athlete participating including Gail Barnsley, Chandra Gunarathne, Hugh Hunt, Jill Ingram, Elizabeth Jones, Emily Jones, Ryan Jones, Anna Kely, Michael Hampton, Virginia Moresi, Jill Taylor, Milly Visser, Justine Wallis, and Sonia Wiberg. Our Team Managers over the weekend were Andrew Fisher and Nicky Jenneke, with Angela Maclaine as the Team Leader in the lead-up to the event.

LITTLES STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS 20-21 March 2021, Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre Due to Covid-19 capacity restrictions at venues, the Little Athletics State Championship was divided over two weekends, with the U9-U12 age groups called the Littles State Championship. It was held on a weekend when Sydney experienced its heaviest rainfall in more than 50 years, with large parts of the city and state flooded. However, the State Championships went ahead, with the decision made early on day one to postpone the waterlogged horizontal jumps until the following weekend. Some high jump and hurdles were also postponed, however these did not affect any Cherrybrook Athletes. Saturday’s conditions were very challenging, with torrential rainfall and heavy winds, while Sunday was more manageable. Despite the weather, all 17 athletes turned up for their 27 events across the two days and competed to the very best of their ability. Our medallists included Joel Moresi (U12B) GOLD in High Jump and BRONZE in 400m, 800m and 1500m; Gemma Dixon (U10G) GOLD in 1100m walk; Nisini Rajapaksha (U11G) SILVER in Discus; Madison Tabret (U9G) SILVER in Long Jump; Oliver Penn (U9B) SILVER in 700m Walk.

YOUTH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP 27-28 March 2021, Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre With Zone and Region championships called off due to Covid-19, our U13-U17 athletes had a very different path to State this year – having to achieve a minimum nomination standard and then submit their nominations online via Little Athletics NSW. Cherrybrook had 39 athletes selected to compete across 79 events. Of those, we had 36 compete achieving 21 top eight placings and 13 podium finishes. After the 2020 State Championships were cancelled on the eve of competition, athletes were hungry for competition. While all athletes gave it their best and there were many PBs, including Thomas Shannon (U15B) with a huge 70-second PB in 1500m Walk, the club did not achieve Gold. Our multi-medallists were Robbie Cullen (U17B) with 3 SILVER in 110m hurdles, High Jump, Javelin; Tara Webb (U15G) SILVER in Triple Jump, BRONZE in Long Jump; Sarah-Anne Koot (U14G) SILVER in 80m hurdles, BRONZE in 200m hurdles. Other SILVER medallists were Olivia Moresi (U14G) High Jump; Xavier Hennessy (U14B) Triple Jump; Daniel de Sacadura (U17B) Discus; and BRONZE medallists Tayla Moore (U13G) Discus; Isabella Fisher (U14G) 400m. Well done to all athletes and thank you to the parents and officials for volunteering their services in undertaking duties on behalf of the Club. Team managers for the competition were Andrew Fisher and Nicky Jenneke.

AUSTRALIAN LITTLE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS For the second year in a row the Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALAC) was cancelled due to Covid-19 and the uncertainty around state borders. However, Cherrybrook Athlete Will Austin was selected to represent Little Athletics NSW in the Virtual Coles Little Athletics National Challenge. His selection was based on his SILVER medal at the State Combined Carnival. While Will did not have the opportunity to compete at ALAC and experience all that it has to offer, he did get to participate in at the LANSW team camp on 7 April 2021 and was ranked in the Top 3 in the Coles Little Athletics Challenge in the U15B Combined Event. Will should be genuinely proud of his selection – as the Club is of him. LANSW RACEWALKING CARNIVAL 1 May 202, Angel Park, Chipping Norton We only had three Cherrybrook athletes compete at the LANSW Racewalking Carnival – with all three achieving a podium position. Gemma Dixon walked superbly, winning GOLD in the U10G 1200m Walk in 6.15.02; Ashleigh Mansell won BRONZE in U9G 1200m Walk in 7:32.19 – just 0.29 behind 2nd; and Thomas Shannon was in 2nd for most of the U15B 3km racewalk but finished with BRONZE in 16:50.83

JUNIOR AWARDS COLOURED PATCHES The Club’s Coloured Patch awards scheme is an achievement-based award system targeted at the U7-U15 age groups to encourage individuals to strive for their best performance across both events. Results achieved at Club level, gala days and championship events (Zone, Region, State etc) can be used towards obtaining patches. In ascending order, Yellow, Green, Red and Blue patches achieved during the season were presented to athletes by their age managers. The Gold Patch is the highest patch and is awarded at our annual presentation. This season 103 athletes (approximately one-third) were awarded coloured patches – of which approximately 71% achieved Green, 35% achieved Red, and 9% achieved Blue. Our U8 Girls won the competition, decided in March, for the age group that submitted the highest percentage of Coloured Patch recording sheets, followed by U11 Girls and then jointly U7 Girls and U9 Boys.

GOLD PATCH AWARDS Congratulations to the following athletes who were awarded a Gold Patch – the club’s highest recognition of all- rounder personal athletic achievement: Will Austin (U15B); Tara Webb (U15G); Xavier Hennessey (U14B); Sarah- Anne Koot (U14G); Olivia Moresi (U14G); Joel Moresi (U12B)

100% ATTENDANCE This season 12 athletes attended 100% of the point-scoring competition nights and they, and their parents, are congratulated for their dedication and enthusiasm. Our 100% award recipients are Ethan Graham (U7B), Imogen Connell (U8G), Sarah Lettice (U8G), Jasmine Liu (U9G), Madison Tabrett (U9G), Caitlin Lettice (U10G), Archibald Darby (U10B), Charithu De Mel (U10B), Nisini Rajapaksha Mudiyanselage (U11G), Claudia Wyatt (U11G), Harley Grace (U13B) and Teddy Hampton (U13B). NB Athletes who miss a night of competition due to representing the club at an alternate event eg State Multis, are regarded as being in attendance.

10-YEAR LITTLE ATHLETICS NSW AWARDS Congratulations to William Austin, Jack Hayes, Jessica Coppolelli and Ryan Frykberg who have all been awarded a certificate from Little Athletics NSW in recognition of achieving 10 years of continuous registration. MOST CONSISTENT TRACK ATHLETE AND MOST CONSISTENT FIELD ATHLETE These awards are based on the week-by-week results of each athlete in each age group. To achieve the highest level, it is necessary to attend as many weeks as possible, go in as many events as are available and finish in the top 10 in each event that is attempted. The points are generated and awarded as follows: 1st = 10 points 2nd = 9 points 3rd = 8 points 4th = 7 points 5th = 6 points 6th = 5 points 7th = 4 points 8th = 3 points 9th = 2 points 10th = 1 point MOST IMPROVED ATHLETE As with Most Consistent Athlete, this award is also dependent on the number of times an athlete attends and the number of events they participate in. Points are awarded if an athlete improves their best time or distance as follows: Better than last personal best = 10 points Equal to last personal best = 5 points To be eligible for any of the above awards, an athlete should have attended at least 52% of the available weeks in the season or have a legitimate reason (eg injury) for attending fewer. Consideration may also be given to Dual registered athletes U12+ who may also be competing in the weekend Seniors program. NB: If an athlete achieves first place in both Most Consistent Track Athlete and Most Consistent Field Athlete, they will be awarded one trophy as the Most Consistent Track & Field Athlete. If an athlete wins a Most Consistent award and Most Improved, they will be awarded only the Most Consistent award – as they are considered the most prestigious – and the Most Improved trophy will be awarded to the first eligible runner-up in that category. Points as quoted above may change from season to season and it should be noted that the committee will decide on which week the calculations commence. 32

PERFORMANCE AWARDS Performance Awards were introduced in 2011/2012 to recognise athletes who have performed well at Club level in a specific event or discipline area but have not received an award in the Most Consistent or Most Improved categories for their age. These awards are only offered to athletes in the U7-U15 Age Groups. While there is no strict criteria for these awards, as a general rule, to be considered for a performance award athletes must have an attendance of at least 32%, have achieved a minimum Red Colour Patch standard and be in the top six in their age group for the event/s being awarded.

HIGH ACHIEVER AWARD The Cherrybrook Little Athletics High Achievers Award recognises an U17 athlete with strong State level ability, as well as good sportsmanship, leadership, team spirit, service to the Club and passion for athletics. Our 2020/2021 High Achiever is Robbie Cullen.

Robbie joined Cherrybrook Little Athletics Club as an U11B in 2014, along with his sister Victoria in U13G. Starting out, Robbie was not winning medals, or breaking or setting records. In his first year he competed at Zone in Discus, Shot Put, Triple Jump and High Jump but did not progress further. Two years later, Robbie made Region for the first time, coming 12th in Discus (19.82m) and 13th in Javelin (18.22m). Robbie has improved exponentially over the past five years and can now throw a 1.5kg Discus 40.93m and Javelin 53.10m. As an U11B, Robbie was awarded runner-up for Most Improved Athlete and has continued to improve season after season. Robbie’s passion for athletics, commitment to training (with coaches John Sharpe and Nicky Jenneke) and motivation to achieve his best, in not one but multiple events, competition after competition, has paved the way for him to develop into such an outstanding and high achieving athlete. His athletic versatility and ability are demonstrated below:

2017/2018 – U14 Little Athletics U14B Most Consistent Track and Field and Most Improved Athlete Senor Club records in U14M 3kg (30.64m), High Jump (1.65m) + U16M 1500m Walk (8:24.76) 2018/2019 – U15 Little Athletics Most Consistent Track Athlete and Seniors Dual Athlete participation award Gold in High Jump and Bronze in 100m Hurdles at LANSW State Championships Broke U15B 100m Hurdles Club record and Seniors U16 record Silver and 5 PBs at his first LANSW Combined Event Championships, selected to represent NSW at the Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALAC) in combined event and 4x100m mixed relay Silver in 4x100m mixed relay and 14th in combined event at ALAC in Hobart Gold in LANSW U17 Jumps relay (jumping up an age) with Donovan Bradshaw and Jonathan Reid Silver in LANSW State Relay 4x100 relay, with Jarrod Li, Donovan Bradshaw and Noah Liu 2019/2020 – U17 Invited to join Athletics NSW Target Talent Program for High Jump Silver in Open men's High Jump relay and Open men's Javelin relay Broke Little Athletics Championships records in 110m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles Broke Senior Club Records in U17 200m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles and smashed U18 record Awarded Senior U18 male Most Consistent award 2020/2021 – U17 Bronze in NSW All Schools High Jump with a PB of 2.02m Gold in U17 LANSW Combined Event Carnival Three Silvers at LANSW State in High Jump, 110m Hurdles, Javelin Gold in U18 NSW Decathlon with 5495 points, a new Senior Club record Athletics Australia National qualification in High Jump (5th), Javelin (7th), 100m Hurdles (11th), 400m Hurdles (9th)

Robbie displays great sportsmanship and team spirit, making himself available for team events such as State Relays and Club Championships, as well as encouraging and supporting other athletes. Robbie is helpful both on and off the field, having coached on Friday nights in 2019/2020, assisted at working bees and activities such as Sunrise morning show in 2020. Robbie has achieved many great results and enjoyed many wonderful experiences as an athlete, competing for Cherrybrook Little Athletics Club and Cherrybrook Senior Athletics Club, and has been a positive role model to younger athletes. If Robbie can maintain his passion, determination and motivation in athletics, he has the talent to have a very bright future in the sport.

T.J. BEALE TROPHY When Cherrybrook Little Athletics commenced in 1994, it was financially strong in its initial season thanks to the generous contribution of Mr T.J. Beale. In that first season, the committee decided it was important to recognise Mr Beale’s contribution and created the T.J. Beale Perpetual Trophy. Mr Beale passed away during the 1998/1999 season. This award is given to both a girl and a boy athlete who epitomise the philosophy of Little Athletics. Criteria consists of attendance of at least 70%, a positive attitude, willingness to embrace good sportsmanship and at least two years with the Club. Since 2000/2001, an extra criteria was added that the trophy be awarded to U12 athletes.

NB: Changes to State and Australian records In August 2014, the LANSW Board approved consolidation of manual and electronic State record times, to one set of best performance records. As per Little Athletics Australia guidelines, a formula has been applied to current times to create a standardised system and bring all performance times into alignment. From 2014, the best result (standardised hand-held time or Fully Automated Time [FAT]) has become the LANSW State or National record. The formula for standardising the hand- held time is: Distances <400m = Hand-held time +0.24 seconds; Distance 400m or 4x100m relay = Hand-held time +0.14; Distances >400m = no change. A standardised time is indicated with [S]. Historical documents are to be kept on the LANSW website. State Multi records are no longer being kept as there have been multiple changes made to the point-scoring system which makes the year- by-year performances difficult to compare. SENIORS REPORTS NSW & AUSTRALIAN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS Five Cherrybrook athletes were selected in the 2020 Athletics NSW Target Talent Program (TTP) squad which features a six-month schedule of training and educational sessions with some of the state’s best athletics coaches at Sydney Olympic Park. Congratulations to Jonathan Reid (Horizontal Jumps), Emilia Duncan (Hurdles), Donovan Bradshaw (Sprints), Robbie Cullen (High Jump) and Para athlete Kailyn Joseph for being recognised as future senior NSW and Australian elite athletes. James Gladman has been selected to be part of the Para Pathways Program for throws development.

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION Subject to Covid-19 and international border restrictions, James Gladman will compete at the 2022 World Dwarf Games in 100m, 200m, Shot Put, Discus and Javelin. SUMMER DOWN UNDER 6-8 March 2021, Woden Park, Canberra The Summer Down Under meet is usually an international wheelchair track and field competition however, due to Covid-19 and international border closures, this season it was generally a national-based competition. Kim Neuenkirchen competed in 100m, 200m and 400m framed running track races, achieving GOLD and a personal best in the mixed 400m (1:42.30 PB) and SILVER in the women’s 100m (23.72) and 200m (49.55 PB). OUR OLYMPIC HOPEFULS Nick Andrews is teetering on the edge of Olympic selection! Under the new Olympic qualifying point system at the time of this report, he was ranked 37th out of a possible 40 qualifiers internationally – with just 4 points between him and the 41st ranked athlete. With the qualification period closing on 29 June, we hope Nick gets in a few more quality runs to secure and advance his position. Alysha Burnett is a little behind in the rankings at this stage, but a couple of PBs could put her back in contention. Currently ranked 41st on the world ranking system, she needs to be in the top 32 to make the Olympic Team. OUR PARALYMPIC HOPEFUL Kailyn Joseph hopes to wear the Green and Gold again, this time in the Paralympic Long Jump. While Kailyn jumped a Paralympic B qualifier of 4.29m at NSW All Schools, it did not count as it was wind-assisted. We wish Kailyn all the best in jumping the qualifier again to make the Australian Team. NSW STATE RELAYS Usually our biggest team event for Cherrybrook Seniors, the 2020 State Relays was not contested due to Covid-19. The event was sorely missed as an opportunity to come together as a team early in the season and develop some camaraderie and welcome new members, and we hope for a big representation at the 2021/2022 State Relays. TRELOAR SHIELD October 2020 – December 2020 Congratulations to the 33 Cherrybrook athletes who took part in the Treloar Shield. This season the competition was five rounds with select events available for point score at each of the weekend competitions. The point score was split into three divisions, with Cherrybrook finishing 2nd in the Junior division, 8th in the Masters and 22nd in the Open. The Club’s biggest contributors in terms of attendance were Anna Kely, Matthew Joyce, Ryan Jones (4 from 5 rounds) and Robbie Cullen and Sara Kely (3 rounds).

NSW CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 7 November 2020, Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre Warm Up Track Cherrybrook had an amazing turnout of 42 athletes, from U12s to Masters, compete in 10 teams across five age divisions/categories, achieving the following results: • Masters Men: 5th of 8 teams • Open Men: 13th of 24 teams • U18 Men: 6th (A team), 21st (B team) and 23rd (C team) of 35 teams • Open Women: 7th (B team), 10th (A team) and 12th (C team) of 19 teams • U18 Women: 11th (A team) and 19th (B team) of 23 teams

Well done to our most competitive team in U18 Men Donovan Bradshaw (100m), Jonathan Reid (100m & LJ), Isaac Cheng (400m), Daniel de Sacadura (SP) and Joel Moresi (1500m). As always, Cherrybrook had the greatest team spirit on show in the athletics community!

SENIORS AWARDS CRITERIA The Seniors Club awards five types of awards: 3Monkeez Sprints Award This inaugural Sprints Award, proudly sponsored by 3Monkeez, recognises both participation and performance across all events 50m to 400m. The award is presented to one athlete in the Dual, Seniors and Masters divisions. Winners are determined by the senior division of the committee, based on a rudimentary point score system. One point is awarded each time an athlete represents the Club in a sprints event and 5, 3, 2 points are then awarded for the best three results in 100m, 200m and 400m in each division. The best results are calculated as a percentage of the National qualifying standards for Duals and Seniors and age-graded percentage of National records for masters. Dual Participation Award Awarded to the male and female Dual athletes who represented the Club in the most number of Seniors meets throughout the season. Most Consistent Athlete Award Awarded to an athlete in each age group (U18, U20, Open, Masters) and gender. The award is calculated on a point score system based on the number of times an athlete competes for the Club, either at club level or representatively (only athletes who have competed at least five times will be eligible for this award). Club Athlete of the Season The Senior Club’s highest award for an athlete with the highest achievement for their division and gender (U18, U20, Open, Master & Para) Daniel Berry Award The Senior Club’s perpetual trophy awarded in memory of former athlete Daniel Berry, recognising a Club member who has shown the sort of team spirit, good sportsmanship, and passion for athletics and our Club that Daniel had.

DANIEL BERRY SENIORS AWARD Daniel Berry was a Cherrybrook Seniors athlete from 2009-2013, during which time he broke many NSW and Australian records in U20 and Open Male AWD divisions in running events from 100m to 1500m, Long Jump and Discus. He also regularly participated for Cherrybrook Athletics at interclub competitions, State Relays and Allcomers events with great enthusiasm and determination every time. In July 2013, Daniel tragically lost his life to cancer at the very young age of 22. He will long be remembered by our Club for his loving nature, generous spirit, tenacious and excellent sportsmanship, competitive drive, humble attitude, and the inspirational way he lived his life on and off the athletics track. In memory of Daniel, the 2013/2014 committee introduced the Daniel Berry Award for Seniors athletes, using the following criteria: Age: Minimum age 16. Attitude and Sportsmanship: A positive attitude and a willingness to embrace good sportsmanship. Attendance: The athlete must have competed a minimum of eight times in a season, which can include representation for Cherrybrook Senior Athletics, NSW Athletics and/or Athletics Australia, and must have been a member of the Club for at least two years. DANIEL BERRY AWARD WINNER 2020/2021 ANNA KELY Anna became a member of Cherrybrook Seniors at the age of 12 in 2016/2017. Now in her 5th Seniors season, and age 17, Anna has matured and evolved into a fine all-round athlete, a very strong team player and a person who shows incredible attributes of sportsmanship and a very positive and humble attitude. She competed 12 times for the Club this season, the second-most of any female registered Cherrybrook athletes. Anna is also actively involved in the Club as a Junior Coach and lends a hand whenever needed. Anna competed in four of the five Treloar Shield point score rounds, contributing valuable points to help Cherrybrook secure a top 5 place. Anna is a very versatile athlete who participated in four individual events this season – Discus, Shot Put, Javelin and even the 100m sprint – giving her best effort at each opportunity. Anna also loves team competitions, particularly the NSW Club Championships in November 2020 when she was a crucial member of the U18 Women team – winning the individual Shot Put with a throw of 13.48m. She also competed in a 4x100m relay to help her team finish 11th overall out of 23 teams. She then backed up to join an Open Women team to run 100m and another 4x100m relay, highlighting her teamwork and incredible Club spirit by competing in events she doesn’t train for. Anna has a lot of competitive drive which was highlighted in her season results such as improving her Shot Put by more than 2m from 11.27m to 13.48m, Javelin from 36.46m to 38.71m and Discus by more than 3m from 30.70m to 34.42m. At the 2020 NSW All Schools Championship, Anna was 17G Shot Put champion and 17G Discus bronze medallist – qualifying for the 2021 Australian Track and Field Championships for the first time in these two throws events. The thing people most notice about Anna is her generous team spirit. She engages with athletes of all ages and abilities, offers assistance to athletes at competitions and demonstrates a willingness to cheer for any and every Cherrybrook athlete. A lot of our younger athletes look up to Anna, and many Little A athletes see her as a big sister. Anna is such a great role model to all athletes in the Club due to her positive attitude and determination every time she competes. Anna is a very worthy award winner.

GENERAL REPORTS TREASURER’S REPORT – Sandra Moore Cherrybrook Athletics Centre’s (“The Centre”) financial position at 31 March 2021 remains strong. The Centre has Accumulated Funds of $142,542, an increase from the previous year of $126,477 as a result of the current year’s Operating Profit of $16,065. The Accumulated Funds are represented by Assets of $142,542 (Cash $109,954, Plant & Equipment at written down value $17,840, and Uniform Stock $14,748) with no Liabilities. The operating profit of $16,065 compares with a profit of $9,632 in the previous year (an increase of $6,433). The major items and variances are discussed further below. Total Canteen Sales for the year increased by $687 (8%) to $9,108. After Purchases the Net Profit from Canteen has only increased by $890 (16%) to $6,445. This season there were only a couple of Friday night competitions lost due to poor weather. Covid-19 had a significant impact on how we were able to logistically run the canteen. In addition, this year we moved to Eftpos payment facilities for canteen and uniform, which incurred total fees of $189. We have been lucky to maintain our profit due to careful management of purchases and sponsorship from Bakers Delight Cherrybrook in the form of free bread rolls every Friday night. Total Uniform Sales for the year of $10,919 increased from last year by $1,984 (22%). Our new club uniform was introduced three seasons ago and sales were therefore higher in previous years as all athletes had to change their uniform. The net uniform profit for the year of $1,517 has increased from last year by $502 (49%). This season we slightly increased selling prices for several items, after having kept these unchanged for the previous three seasons to assist families with the introduction of the new uniform. This had resulted in lower margins last season due to the increased cost of uniforms. Stock has decreased by $3,648 (20%) from last year, which was high due to the new polar fleece stock bought last season in an economic quantity. Other Income increased by $3,245 (7%) to $52,826, which is mainly attributable to: Grants received of $10,073 (increase of $6,572) this year from the Office of Sport for Long Jump pit upgrade ($4,200) and starting device equipment ($2,000); as well as $2,873 from Coles for High Jump mats; and $1,000 from Little Athletics NSW to cover additional costs associated with Covid-19. Sponsorships received increased by $1,200 to $10,000 ($5,000 from Hunter Pacific International to fund Coaching and $5,000 from 3Monkeez to fund competition expenses). Increases were offset by the following decreases: Registration fees received and Active Kids receipts net of Registration expenses (paid to Little Athletics and Athletics NSW) are $30,611 which is a decrease from last year of $3,527 (10%). Total number of registrations at 423 are down on last year’s 502 by 79 (16%) as we had to cap our numbers at the beginning of the season due to Covid-19 capacity limits on the oval. Equipment hire at $300 is down on last year due to the effects of Covid-19. Other Expenses decreased by $1,795 (4%) to $44,723. The major variances are: Athletic Funding decreased by $2,000 to $2,550. Competition entry fees and expenses decreased by $5,760 (75%) to $1,894 (this season there was no Zone carnival due to Covid-19 and last year’s amount included approximately three seasons worth of Zone medals). Trophies & Awards and AGM & Presentation Night expenses in total of $11,489 have decreased from last year’s $12,149 by $660 (5%). The majority of the 2021 expense relates to May 2020 when we were not able to have a presentation day due to Covid-19 however we still distributed trophies, awards and the Red Book. Coaching (on Friday nights to improve athletes’ skills) increased by $3,460 to $6,190, which has been mostly funded by Hunter Pacific’s sponsorship of $5,000 and $4,000 last year. Friday night competition costs include the giant slide on the final Fun Night $1,295 and St John Ambulance fee of $1,000 for half the season. Due to Covid-19 we have had to engage a different St John area team and, although we are obtaining their services at a significant discount, the cost is far higher than the nominal donation amount we had been paying over many years due to our longstanding relationship. The net written down value of Plant & Equipment has increased in total from $15,836 to $17,840 as a result of additions of $7,996 net of depreciation of $5,992. Additions included the Long Jump pit upgrade of $4,836 funded by the grant of $4,200 and High Jump mat top pad of $3,160 funded by the grant of $2,873. Depreciation expense has decreased by $251 as a result of the final write off of a number of items last year. Additions are only depreciated for part of the year after they are installed ready for use. I would like to particularly thank all canteen helpers throughout the season. I would also like to thank the committee and many volunteers who have continued to assist in running the Centre’s operations.

SECRETARY’S REPORT – Julie-Ann Wigham I would like to thank the committee for their warm welcome and support in my first year as secretary. Our dedicated committee ensured the Club was able to thrive in a challenging environment. In our 27th year, the committee was solely focused on providing a season that continued the Club’s tradition of providing an inclusive and fun environment while complying with strict Public Health Orders. This season, the committee held 11 meetings most of which were conducted remotely via Zoom. These meetings demonstrated the committee’s ability to respond soundly and swiftly as Little Athletics NSW guidelines and Public Health Orders changed. We deftly implemented a successful QR code check- in process that recorded our attendee details and numbers, and ensured that sanitising practices were maintained through the appointment of Covid-19 marshals. I would like to recognise my predecessor, Kate Tong, who ensured my seamless transition into the role of Secretary, providing ongoing support behind the scenes as well as actively pursuing every grant opportunity available to us. Finally, I would like to extend my gratitude to all the parents who actively supported the committee and club by complying and adapting to the widespread changes this season. Although some difficult but necessary modifications were made to Friday night competition, it is our parents who rolled up their sleeves and delivered an outstanding season for our athletes. I look forward to an enjoyable and successful 2021/2022 season.

SENIOR CLUB REGISTRAR’S REPORT – Karin Webb The Club had 100 registered senior members this season – down from last season but still a good number given the disaster 2020 was for everyone. Senior membership comprised 51 Dual Cherrybrook athletes, 10 Dual athletes from other clubs, 12 concession members, 24 Open members and 3 Community members. The Club has always provided very talented officials for a range of meets including international and Olympic competitions. Our officials this season were: Jeanette Boyton, Cheryl Burnett, Elizabeth Jones, Amanda Kely, Sara Kely, Linda Nixon and Alexandra Pearce. This season registration classes were revised, encompassing: Open, concession (19 years or younger, or hold a Government Concession Card), Community (participate socially at the club), Dual member (12-17years), and Club Volunteer (non-participation member). Four athletes were allocated special wreath competition numbers in recognition of winning an event at the Open NSW State Championships last season. They were: Julie Charlton (bib #12), Alysha Burnett (bib #19), Nick Andrews (bib #33), Kim Neuenkirchen (bib #61).

LITTLE ATHLETICS REGISTRAR’S REPORT – Jenny Koot The 2020/2021 season was one like no other – with Covid-19 restrictions we began our season later than normal, starting in October, and we were also unable to offer trials. Additionally, to comply with Covid restrictions as they applied at the start of the season, we initially could only accept 300 registrations, with a waitlist established to keep track of potential members wishing to join. Thankfully, Covid restrictions were eventually eased and we were able to accept additional registrations. Overall, there were 323 active and financial registrations this season, with 173 boys and 150 girls. This was fewer than the previous season’s 360 registrations. The largest age group was U8, with 47 registrations, followed by U10 with 36 registrations. While our overall numbers were down this season, with Covid restrictions easing and a feeling of life returning to normal, we are optimistic for what the 2021/2022 season may bring. We look forward to seeing our athletes back next season.

GRANTS REPORT – Kate Tong It has been a fruitful 2020/21 season. We were awarded Local Sport Grants of $4,200 for extending the junior Long Jump run-ups and $2,000 for purchasing some new starting devices, just in time to start a great season. Hornsby Council also contributed $1,300 to help with the safety layer of run-up closest to the track. We were also lucky to win a second round of Coles Little Athletics Community Funds valued at $2870 for two new High Jump top pads. We also received a $1,000 Grassroots Funding Grant from Little Athletics NSW which helped us to overcome any financial impact due to Covid-19. Thanks to the Office of Sport NSW, Coles and LANSW which continue to offer great support to our Club. Last but not least, my deepest thanks to our extremely helpful and lovely staff from the Hornsby Council who have been fabulous, working with us with all our grant applications. Without their expertise and efficiency, many of our projects would not have been possible.

COACHING COORDINATOR’S REPORT – Valmé Kruger Our day-to-day reality took a drastic turn amid Covid-19, and the athletics community was no exception. During this global pandemic, fulfilling the coaching role can be difficult. Both athletes and coaches had to deal with an unforeseen situation presenting new daily challenges. When coaches were not allowed to be with their athletes, it was important to find a way to communicate with them a few times per week. Whether via phone call, video conference, social media or email, communication was important to maintain a good relationship, to allow a coach to understand how athletes were dealing with the crisis, and to give coaches an opportunity to provide feedback about training. Maintaining this relationship has definitely translated to better coach-athlete relationships when life returned to normal. With competitions cancelled, coaches also had to adapt training plans and reorientate goals. The Club’s team of coaches advised athletes and parents on positive thinking and resilience in these trying times. Coaches play an integral part in our athletes’ development, and the influence coaches can have on an athlete’s life can go way beyond the athletic field. Our weeknight coaches – Valmé Kruger (Middle and Distance Running, Cross Country), John Sharpe (Jumps, Throws, Sprints), Mick Zisti (Sprints, Hurdles), Carla Takchi (Junior Hurdles), Will Mills (Walks), Zac Hayward (Junior High Jump) and Amie Bowrey (Junior Field) – successfully coached athletes to the highest-level State qualification. We thank Hunter Pacific’s amazing financial support for the third year in a row, which enabled the Club to finance the ongoing coaching project for young up-and-coming coaches on a Friday night. The Friday night coaching focus moved to more specific and consistent training in preparation for the State Little Athletics competitions. Many of our younger coaches – Ryan Jones, Daniel de Sacadura, Emily Jones, Amie Bowrey, William Mills, Alex Mills, Robbie Cullen, Carla Takchi, Rachel Ingram, Kailyn Joseph, Corey Dewar, Victoria Cullen, Milly Visser and Anna Kely – played a big role in the Club’s successes through coaching at Little Athletics Friday night competitions, mentored by Valmé Kruger. Younger coaches are encouraged to be accredited on a Level 1 Track and Field course through NSW Athletics and they fund that themselves. Our thanks also go to all our senior accredited coaches for the exceptional dedication and hard work they have put in. In particular Valmé Kruger, John Sharpe, Mick Zisti, Carla Tachi and Zac Hayward have again worked hard to bring out the best in our athletes, and to provide wonderful expertise and encouragement to many of our athletes. All senior track and field coaches at Cherrybrook Athletics are expected to be qualified and accredited. The younger up- and-coming coaches undergo continuous on-going training under the guidance of an accredited, higher-level coach or mentor, specifically at Friday night competitions when they are rotated to different events to gain more experience, confidence and exposure. Our senior coaches are required to refresh their knowledge by staying actively involved, which will extend their experience of coaching, and keep up-to-date with new ideas by attending on-going coaching courses conducted by the Australian Track and Field Coaches Association. All athletes are equally important to us and that is why we have multiple training sessions during the week to cater for different ages and standards. Our senior ranks are growing in numbers, which indicates that the depth in our Club is growing – with outstanding results. I became president in 1996, and in 2000 I started the Senior Club and later became president of both Cherrybrook Senior and Little Athletics. I was instrumental in pushing through a number of improvements to the Club’s facilities including organising the installation of the Triple Jump run-ups and junior Long Jump pit, along with the Shot Put circles and Discus cages; and also the equipment shed under the stairs next to the club room. The most important highlight was starting the Senior Club in 2000. I was concerned at the time that our young athletes had nowhere to go after Little As and were dropping out of athletics. Cherrybrook was the first combined Senior and Junior Club, starting with about 20 Senior members, and is now one of the top Senior clubs in the state, including having won State Club of the Year. A big personal highlight was when my children Monica and Amanda both won the T.J. Beale Award. In 2004 I retired as a solicitor and began coaching full-time. I was one of the few independent full-time coaches at the time, and completed my coaching qualifications achieving Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and a Level 4 Jumps coach. I worked for Little Athletics NSW as a primary school coach, and also coached high jump squads for Barker College, St Joseph’s College and Pymble Ladies College. I have had a large squad of athletes and it has been a privilege helping hundreds of junior and senior athletes as they have strived to achieve their goals in this great sport. Some are making their own contributions to the sport, for example Ben Jaworksi, who I coached from age 13 and who went on to represent Australia in 100m and 200m, has recently been appointed Athletics NSW competition 2000/2001 manager. My personal highlights as a coach have been seeing my athletes represent Australia at World Youth and World Junior Championships, World University Games, World Relays, Oceania Championships and Pacific School Games. Medals were won at World Youth, Oceania and Pacific School Games Championships. Perhaps what I am most proud of is that I have been able to coach successfully across a wide range of disciplines, which I think is quite unusual – and has certainly kept me on my toes over the years. I have had athletes medal in High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Javelin, Discus, Shot, 100m, 200m and 400m. I will miss athletics but now move into retirement and a new stage of my life knowing the Club and my current squad will be in good hands. I am very pleased some of my current athletes have already started coaching at the Club. All the best to all of you, John Sharpe

AGE MANAGERS REPORT – Justine Wallis Thank you to all the amazing age managers who volunteered this season to support and inspire their athletes to do their best! Taking over as age manager coordinator from Charlene was quite nerve-racking, however the support and guidance of many age managers made the transition a lot smoother. It was a pleasure to work with the age managers this season. Their commitment and enthusiasm in leading their age groups every Friday night is what makes the nights run to plan. A big thank you to those age managers who returned from previous seasons and to those who have completed their first year as an age manager – you are part of the athletes’ journey through Little Athletics and we hope you will be back next season. Thank you for stepping into the role and doing it so well! Thank you also to those parents who filled in when age managers were unable to attend, you did a great job and we really appreciate your help!

OFFICIALS REPORT – Elizabeth Jones A number of people assist with Friday night Little Athletics competitions – among them are our officials, who ensure that each event site is set up ready for competition and that everyone competes in line with LANSW rules to make the competition fair. Officials are also on hand to confirm whether record attempts can be signed off as valid. We thank all parents who have acted as officials this season for their time and commitment to this vital role. If anyone would like to do any level 1 qualifications and get a better understanding of events, more information can be found on the Athletics Australia website (athletics.com.au/officials/education). It is not a hard exam – open book in fact – and, once a level 1 qualification has been achieved, you can officiate at both Little Athletics and Athletics NSW carnivals and get up close to some great competition. If anyone would like to further their officiating experience, please contact Elizabeth Jones ([email protected]) or Amanda Kely ([email protected]) or speak to Amanda on a Friday night. Who knows, you could end up officiating at the Olympics in 2032 if Brisbane gets it! This year there were limited carnivals, other than Friday night competitions, but thanks go to all those who officiated at those carnivals that were held – with particular thanks to the senior athletes and junior coaches who volunteered their time to help at the State Qualifying Meet at Narrabeen. STATE QUALIFYING MEET OFFICIALS: Elizabeth Jones, Sonia Wiberg, Virginia Moresi, Jill Ingram, Michael Hampton, Chandra Rajapaksha Mudiyanselage, Jill Taylor, Emily Jones, Ryan Jones, Justine Wallis, Amie Bowrey, Anna Kely and Milly Visser STATE YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS: Elizabeth Jones, Amanda Kely ATHLETICS NSW OFFICIALS: Cheryl Burnett, Elizabeth Jones, Amanda Kely, Sara Kely, Linda Nixon, Jeanette Boyton and Alexandra Pearce (in QLD)

PARA ATHLETICS REPORT – Amanda Kely This season we were very lucky that, despite Covid-19, our Para athletes were still able to compete in numerous events. Our Little Athletes, Aaron Palmer and Audrey Dale, and Senior athletes Sara Kely, Julie Charlton, James Gladman, Kim Neuenkirchen and Kailyn Joseph, all improved nicely over the season. Our Senior athletes were able to compete at major events including All Schools, NSW Open Para and Nationals. Congratulations to all our Para Athletes. I really enjoy watching you. JUNIOR RECORDS AND RANKINGS REPORT – Jun Liu Covid-19 had little interruption to our Friday night programs and, with only three nights washed out, our Little Athletes were able to enjoy the whole season and achieve excellent results. Records are signed off by Club officials and have certain conditions. This season there was one new record established, one record equalled and 28 records broken – some which had stood for more than 10 years. Congratulations to all athletes who equalled, broke or established Club records this season. It is notable that Joel Moresi (U12B) and Xavier Hennessey (U14B) each broke three records. Due to the Covid-19 safety plan, no laptop was set up to enter field results this season and age managers were responsible for entering and uploading results using their mobile phones. Thank you to Justine Wallis who chased up the age managers and collected result sheets to ensure the results were correctly entered and available for parents to check in time. I would like to thank everyone who assisted setting up, packing up and running the timing gates every week including the starters, plus all the age managers and parents for organising athletes in lane order at the end of each race. Special thanks to: Braden Timms, who was the dedicated outer track laptop operator and often stayed late; Michael Hampton, who looked after the equipment and made sure the devices were charged every week; Andrew Russell, who helped with sending the gates for repair and also explored ideas to improve the efficiency of track events; and Nicky Jenneke and Jill Ingram, who checked the records and rankings. EQUIPMENT REPORT – Michael Hampton Grants were the backbone of our equipment acquisitions and modifications this season. Major purchases included two High Jump mat top pads, while modifications included extending the junior Long Jump run-ups. As with any athletics season, small quantities of equipment were lost or broken, with other equipment such as the starting blocks requiring maintenance. The Club was fortunate to receive from its major sponsor 3Monkeez specially fabricated stainless steel hurdle trolleys and stainless steel long jump squares. The implications of Covid-19 extended to our equipment requirements, with the need for hand-sanitising stations and new bollards at entry points to the oval and other areas, as well as sanitising kits for each event to clean the equipment throughout the season. Thank you to everyone involved for following the necessary safety procedures. An addition to the equipment set-up this year was the introduction of a temporary barrier around the junior long jump pits, which assisted in safety on the outer track and one of the Shot Put circles. Thank you to all parents who assisted with set-up and pack- up every week, and in particular those who attended our two end-of-season working bees. Thank you also to Vikas Sharma who volunteered as my assistant equipment manager every week.

CLUB HISTORY LITTLE ATHLETICS Little Athletics began in Geelong, Victoria in October 1964. NSW’s first Little Athletics centre, Randwick Botany, was established in 1968 and the Little Athletics Association of NSW was formed in 1970. This season we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Little Athletics in NSW. LANSW now has more than 200 centres and approximately 40,000 registered athletes each season. Little Athletics began at Cherrybrook in 1994, with the main objective being Friday night competitions to encourage all athletes to compete and improve in every event. This season, the Club had 323 registered Little Athletes – of which about 30% represented the Club at external competitions and championships. Aside from the introduction of some paid coaches (from 2018), Cherrybrook Little Athletics continues to be a primarily volunteer-run athletics centre. The Club is run by parents for the athletes, with parents filling most of the roles, from age managers and field event recorders to officials at Friday night competition and championships. This, combined with the invaluable efforts of our volunteer committee, is crucial to the successful running and development of the Club and makes Cherrybrook Little Athletics a family-friendly and fun club. SENIOR ATHLETICS The Cherrybrook Seniors Club was formed in 2000 and began competing in the 2001/2002 season, thanks to the vision and hard work of then-president Ken Donaldson and vice president John Sharpe. Their goal was to provide an easy transition from Little Athletics into Senior Athletics. In its first year, the Seniors Club was primarily made up of coaches and a small number of older Little Athletics members, with only a few athletes competing at NSW State Championships. Since then, the Club has grown substantially in both size and achievements. Our Seniors Club now has athletes aged from 11 to 60+ years, both in able-bodied and Para categories, and has developed Senior athletes to national and international standard including representatives in Oceania, Commonwealth, World and Olympic competitions. The Club regularly has athletes in NSW and Australian development squads, listed on national and international rankings and achieving State, National and Para World records. This season’s membership was made up of 100 athletes and five officials. The Club offers competition and coaching for athletes of all abilities. Our strength in the Interclub competition (Treloar Shield) is seen in the Club regularly placing in the top eight clubs in Juniors, Seniors and Masters divisions. This year our results included second place in the Juniors division. Now with more than 50 active Little Athletics members involved in Senior Athletics as Dual registered members, it is safe to say our Dual athletes are the cornerstone of our Seniors Club – and the original goal to provide our Little Athletes with a pathway to senior competition has well and truly been achieved.
