51 | P a g e

i. In addition to infrastructure enhancements as prescribed by Dental council of India the institution has established the department of oral Implantology, MuskanDental home, Micro endodontic Unit and the Tobacco cessation center.

B. Signiicant Achievement during the academic year 2019-20: The evidence of success for the introduction of Value added courses was observed for Minimally Invasive Fixed Prosthodontics, Clinical use of Platelet Rich Derivatives and Nitrous Oxide Inhalation Sedation by seeing many students registering for the above mentioned program. 1 SUMANDEEP VIDYAPEETH funded research project by the faculty. A total 14 linkages were established in this year. A total of 18public ations in PUBMED, 18 In Scopus, 10 WEB OF SCIENCE and 23 in UGC indexed journals were published by the teaching faculties in the institute.

C. Best practices/innovations in academics, research& Management with their impact Title of the Practice: Student Learning Support System (SLSS)

Objectives of the Practice 1. To have athoroughevaluationof students’ progress 2. To instill and promulgate the concept of collaborative learning through assignments, discussions, demonstrations, and projects. 3. To nurture a sense of encouragement amongst students for improving their performance in subsequent examinations. 4. To enable students to inculcate and practice different learning strategies to most effectively absorb refractory topics s in a pragmatic manner.

The Context As teaching and learning form two sides of the same coin, neither one can be considered more important than the other. Nevertheless, it becomes essential to bridge the gap in order to have an effectual positive output from the students. To achieve an effectual and eficient output from the students it becomes essential to have a thorough functional behavior assessment. A functional behavior assessment (FBA) identiies where or in which area of education and when (pertaining to certain aspects of change in the quality and level of education) , and the likely reasons why a behavior of concern happens. Behavior of concern, in its most pragmatic nature, can be deined as inability to gain or acquire new skills, unresponsiveness to instruction, inability to complete assignments or projects on time and a reduction in students’ performance as evidenced by a reduction in grades. Functional behavior assessment can be undertaken in the 3 stages. First, to identify the problem and deining the behavior. Second, gathering information about the antecedents and consequences that trigger and maintain the behavior of concern. Third, forming a hypothesis by analyzing the relevant information to determine the root cause of the problem that will enable in the formulation of an effective remedial strategy. Post assessment the formulation of a learning support plan requires a multipronged approach to incorporate interventional effectiveness at various levels to address the problem. The Functional Behaviour Assessment relies on multiple sources of information such as a review of student’s records, structured rating scales if present, collection of direct observation data, identiication of any health issues that may have a bearing on the students’ performance, consideration of environmental conditions that may impact behaviours of concern. The SLSS in its broad scope aims to achieve the above in its 52 | P a g e

most comprehensive nature while maintaining effective and congruent communication between teachers and students.

The Practice Recommended Support System for Students Categorization of Students • Slow Performers – Up to 60% Marks • Mediocre Learners – Above 60% to 70% Marks • Advanced Learners - Above 70% Marks

Title of the Practice: Introduction of Flipped Classroom as a teaching tool for the graduate program

Objectives of the Practice 1. To make teaching learning more student centric 2. To inculcate the concept of learning through videos and understanding the concepts beyond college hours. 3. To instil the habit of prior learning using provided videos and discussing the subject with the teacher/peer during lecture classes. 4. To train the students to perform exercises during practical sessions viewing the videos provided beforehand. 5. To sensitize students to view, understand the content/concept presented in the video at home (beyond college hours). 6. To develop the digital library of lectures and practical techniques involved in teaching the various subjects of the dental curriculum. 7. To be able to discuss the subject with the teacher/peer during theory lecture on the basis of the learning from the video/PPT presentation provided to the students beforehand. 8. To perform the said exercise on the basis of the learning from the video during practical session. 9. To assess the performance of the students on the said topic and identifying the need for facilitation if any

The Context Learning has always been more productive when it is student centric. Participation of the students in teaching learning is equally important as is teachers’ involvement in teaching. Conventional methods of teaching and learning have been followed for years; newer techniques have been used introduced as evidence based effective teaching and learning methods. Of these lipped classroom becomes a good student centric teaching technology.. Amongst various methods Flipped Class room concept was identiied by the institution of KM Shah Dental College and Hospital to be incorporated in teaching. The method of lipped classroom had advantages of making the student more responsible in learning, gave them the possibility of revising material multiple times and relecting the same during their theory / practical sessions. The method saved on time as the time usually ear marked for didactic activity was used by the faculty to focus on student interaction and their problem solving. However, the complex topics and demonstr ations cannot be converted as lipped class room.

The practice consists of 4 phases – 1. Phase I: Preparation of high quality self-explanatory PPT presentations/video recordings of lectures and practical exercises. 2. Phase II: These videos are then provided to the students 2 days in advance to their lipped class room exercise. Flipped classroom exercise is scheduled on the day when the lecture/practical was planned according to conventional teaching schedule. 53 | P a g e

3. Phase III: Students are asked to discuss the theory subject with the teachers/peers or perform the said practical exercise and clarify the doubts that might have risen during self- study at home. 4. Phase IV: the student is then assessed by the instructors

Evidence of Success The method of lipped classroom had advantages of making the student more responsible in learning, gave them the possibility of revising material multiple times and relecting the same during their theory / practical sessions. The method saved on time as the time usually ear marked for didactic activity was used by the faculty to focus on student interaction and their problem solving.

Problems encountered and Resources Required The complex topics and demonstrations cannot be converted as lipped class room. Developing the digital library of lectures and practical techniques involved in teaching the various subjects of the dental curriculum understandable by the students Preparing appropriate assessments for gauging the performance of the students on the said topic and identifying the need for facilitation if any
