A special edition created from public domain sources and edited by me to match the pagination, page numbers and underlay of the New Novello Edition is available on the members’ section of our website but is for use in these rehearsals only. Old Novello editions will not match pages and may not even match ‘lyrics’. We will not have old editions available to be able to give page numbers.

RECOMMENDED RECORDINGS
There is a plethora of good recordings out there, but either being sung in German, or problems with textual underlay mean we are limited to what we can use. For a performance in German, I recommend John Eliot Gardiner’s 1996 set. For a fantastic performance on modern instruments Simon Rattle’s 1991 CBSO disc is excellent – some of the text doesn’t quite match our edition which is why we unfortunately won’t be using it.
The recording we will be using in our rehearsals is the 1991 Academy of Ancient Music disc recorded under Christopher Hogwood. It matches our edition and is at baroque pitch to make those high notes just a bit easier!
