President's Message MBCA NEWS Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association Newsletter • WINTER 2016 President’s Message Greetings from the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association. The MBCA had another successful year in our membership … Currently we have 451 coaches enrolled - up again for the second consecutive year….. Head Coaches and assistants have all taken advantage of our Special School Discount package. Our membership drive, coupled with our Special Discount package and the work of the Executive Board, District Coordinators and League Reps all contributed to this outstanding increase. Major events meet with great success The Annual Coaches Clinic was well received with 155 coaches in attendance and featured terrific presentations by our speakers. Thanks to Clinic Chair Mark Donahue for his work in putting that program together. The Hall of Fame – Coaches Award Banquet also was a terrific success with over 200 people in atten- dance. Special thanks to Clinic Chair Jim & Dayle Reynolds for again organizing this major event. The 9th Annual All Senior Awards Breakfast in May will finalizes this year’s MBCA events. Executive Director John Franceschini will again coordinate this program as it continues to be one of our highlighted events. This newsletter includes information regarding nominations for All Senior Team and All Academic Team and brings you up to date on association news and upcoming events. All nomination forms will be available on our website MBCAorg.com. NOTE - membership is required for coaches and players to be included in our awards programs. If you are currently a member thank you for your support. If you are not - consider joining- as we are only as strong as our membership. MBCA membership year runs July 1 thru June 30. Wishing you all the best. The MBCA & You The MBCA has been serving the needs of High School Basketball and its coaches for 55 years and has always been open to new people on any level of involvement. We are looking for Coaches (head and assistants) to get involved with the Association in helping us support Massachusetts High School Basketball. Should any coach like to become more actively involved in becoming a District Representa- tive – or a member of the Executive Board please contact any Executive Board member. Presently, each section of the state is assigned a District Coordinator [B and G] to represent schools and league in their district. We hope to have each league have a representative that would be the contact with our District Coordinator to disseminate information to the coaches in their respective leagues. In turn the Board would have a communication structure to receive information from coaches through the state. In order for the MBCA to continue to serve its members and high school coaches in the state we need more coaches involved. Our long range plan - 100 % representation through the state. There are several positions on the Executive Board available...We are also in need of a Girls Coordinator in the North and West and a number of league reps in all districts. Should you be interested in becoming a League Rep or serving on the Executive Board please contact us. Help keep the MBCA a vibrant and strong voice for Basketball in Massachusetts. mbcaorg.com t 2016 MBC Senior Awards Breakfast The 9th Annual MBCA Senior Awards Breakfast will Nominations forms are included in this newsletter and can be held Saturday, May 15th at the Hogan Center at also be found on our website MBCAorg.com Holy Cross College.
