Every time someone says something like that, things only get worse! (They hear a loud crash from the attic.) Phoebe! PHOEBE: What? I didn’t do anything! You were the one who jinxed us. (She turns on her heel, heading up the stairs with her sisters and CRISTA at her heels.) [Cut to the attic. A circular wooden table explodes as COLE dives out of the way. The pounding of feet can be heard and then the sisters and CRISTA charge into the room. Two burly demons are advancing on COLE.] PHOEBE: Ooh, Piper! (PIPER raises her hands and one of the two demons explode, but when she tries to explode the second one, he freezes.) PIPER: Damnit! The one time I’m not aiming for a freeze. (PHOEBE runs over to COLE and helps him up.) PHOEBE: (to COLE) Are you okay? COLE: Fine. (He dusts himself off and conjures an energy ball, hurling it into the frozen bounty hunter. He vanquishes in a fiery burst.) I did a little digging, and it looks like the guy who stole your powers has been racking up quite a few powers. (He eyes CRISTA and stares.) PHOEBE: Cole? (She touches his arm and he snaps out of the stare.) COLE: Yeah. He’s been on a killing spree, Phoebe. Several witches have been burned over the last few hours. Word in the Underworld is that he’s been invading covens and using relics or ritual items from those covens to get premonitions from, because in rituals where all coven members are present, they all will have touched or used one of the ritualistic pieces. PRUE: He’s gearing up to come after us. PHOEBE: And he’s not just stopping at witches. (She moves to the Book and flips it open.) COLE: What do you mean? PHOEBE: He went after Crista’s mom. (COLE looks at CRISTA again.) Cole, do you know of any other good magical beings off the top of your head that have powerful abilities? COLE: (to CRISTA) What are you? (PRUE moves in front of her.) PRUE: She’s a Firestarter. Why? COLE: Maurice. I knew you looked familiar! (CRISTA’s face pales.) CRISTA: How do you know about him? PIPER: Whoa, slow down here. What’s going on? CRISTA: My father- COLE: Was one of The Source’s right hand men. CRISTA: What?! COLE: We used to go out on assignments together. He was one of the best hunters I’d ever seen. CRISTA: Liar! He may have been a low life, but he was no killer. COLE: Yeah? Did you ever meet the man? CRISTA: He walked out on us before I was born. COLE: Is that what you were told? (He folds his arms.) Well, I’m sorry to tell you that you’re severely misinformed. Carlotta wanted to switch sides after she got pregnant with you, and when The Source got word, he sent Maurice to take care of her…but she took him out first. CRISTA: Liar! (A fire springs up on COLE’s chest. PIPER steps between them.) PIPER: Enough! (She takes CRISTA’s hand.) Come on, lets go downstairs. (She leads CRISTA out of the attic. COLE pats his chest, extinguishing the flame.) COLE: She looks just like him. PHOEBE: You didn’t have to upset her like that. COLE: I was just telling her the truth. PRUE: (eyeing PAIGE) Sometimes things should be left well enough alone. (LEO orbs in.) PRUE & PHOEBE: Leo! LEO: I’m so sorry! Darryl just pulled some strings and got me bailed out. I came as soon as I could. MAN's VOICE: What the hell are you people?! (PRUE, PHOEBE, PAIGE, COLE, and LEO turn to see INSPECTOR CORTEZ standing in the doorway with his gun drawn, aimed directly at PHOEBE.) Kniehl∗ and Gustav Kramer† II. Institut f¨ur Theoretische Physik, Universit¨at Hamburg, Luruper Chaussee 149, 22761 Hamburg, Germany (Dated: July 28, 2006) Abstract In Phys. Rev. D 58, 014014 (1998) and 71, 094013 (2005), we determined non-perturbative D0, + ∗+ + + D , D , Ds , and Λc fragmentation functions, both at leading and next-to-leading order in the MS factorization scheme, by fitting e+e− data taken by the OPAL Collaboration at CERN LEP1. The starting points for the evolution in the factorization scale µ were taken to be µ0 = 2mQ, where Q = c, b. For the reader’s convenience, in this Addendum, we repeat this analysis for µ0 = mQ, where the flavor thresholds of modern sets of parton density functions are located.

  • Charmed Eloquence: Lhéritier's Representation of Female Literary
Charmed Eloquence: Lhéritier’s Representation of Female Literary Creativity in Late Seventeenth-Century France by Allison Stedman In 1690 when Marie-Catherine le Jumel de Barneville, comtesse d'Aulnoy decided to interpolate a fairy tale, "L'île de la félicité," into her first historical novel, L'histoire d'Hypolite, comte de Duglas, she did more than publish the first literary fairy tale of the French tradition.1 Hypolite not only provided a framework for introducing the fairy tale as a literary genre; it also launched a new hybrid publication strategy that would soon sweep printing houses all over Paris. This unprecedented literary trend—which I have chosen to call the novel/fairy-tale hybrid—involved the combination of fairy tales and novels by means of interpolation, framing, layering or juxtaposition. More than thirteen authors developed the genre between 1690 and 1715, and they produced a total of twenty-seven original works, sometimes at the rapid rate of two to three per year.2 In the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, novel/fairy-tale hybrids were incredibly popular, frequently reprinted and widely circulated, with translations of some appearing as far away as England, Spain and Czecesolvakia.3 D'Aulnoy's Histoire d'Hypolite, for example, achieved more editions over the course of the eighteenth century than any other seventeenth-century literary work, with the exception of La Princesse de Clèves.4 In fact, the genre was so popular that it even experienced a brief revival between 1747 and 1759 when six new examples appeared. During the final decades of the eighteenth century, however, anthologists began pillaging the original editions of these works.

Douglas, Chair Professor Gerald P. Scannell Associate Professor Amanda D. Lotz Associate Professor Bambi L. Haggins, Arizona State University © Megan E. Biddinger 2012 To My Family, With Love and Gratitude ii Acknowledgments Of all of the many things I have to be grateful for right now, the opportunity to take this space to thank the many, many people who have helped me through this process is at the top of the list. For years, I have kept a running list of people who have made me a better scholar and a better human being. At times when this process has been difficult, that list and the act of adding to it have served as powerful reminders of my good fortune. Looking at that list now I see an embarrassment of human riches. I am so grateful for the vast amounts and many kinds of support, encouragement, intellectual stimulation, camaraderie, and love I have received. I want to first thank my advisor and my committee without whom this project would have been impossible. First, I was incredibly fortunate to have Susan Douglas as an advisor and chair. She has been patient but persistent with me from the very beginning and my work is so much the better for learning from her. Her work inspired me to pursue my own investigations into gender, media, and culture and it has been an honor to be her student.

‘HEALING HANDS’ CAST BIOS EDDIE CIBRIAN (Buddy Hoyt) – A versatile actor who continues to expand his career in television and film, Eddie Cibrian is fast becoming one of the leading young actors in the business today. Born and raised in California, Cibrian began his acting career at the age of 12, landing a Coca-Cola commercial on his very first audition. Following the success of that spot, Cibrian appeared in numerous other national commercials. Upon entering high school, Cibrian decided to put his acting career on hold to pursue his other passion: Sports. He excelled in every sport he competed in – football, baseball, soccer and volleyball – and graduated high school with several All-State honors. Cibrian continued his successful athletic career when he entered UCLA’s football program in the fall of 1991. Unfortunately, an injury during his first year on the team left Cibrian sidelined, so he decided to return to acting. Cibrian immediately landed several national commercials and soon after, starred in Malcolm- Jamal Warner’s Emmy® Award winning television special “Kids Killing Kids.” The attention Cibrian garnered for his appearance on Warner’s special led to several soap opera auditions, including one for “The Young and the Restless.” The show’s producers were impressed with Cibrian’s acting abilities and created a character for him on the show, that of the conniving Matt Clark. Within three months, Cibrian had received so much fan mail that CBS signed him to a three-year contract. After appearing on “The Young and the Restless” for two years, Cibrian starred in several television shows including “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Baywatch Nights,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Sabrina The Teenage Witch” and “Saved by the Bell: The College Years.” It was not long before Aaron Spelling offered Cibrian the starring role of Cole Deschanel on the NBC daytime drama, “Sunset Beach.” Just five months after his debut, TV Guide named Cibrian one of Daytime’s 12 Hottest Stars.

  • ABSTRACT the Women of Supernatural: More Than
ABSTRACT The Women of Supernatural: More than Stereotypes Miranda B. Leddy, M.A. Mentor: Mia Moody-Ramirez, Ph.D. This critical discourse analysis of the American horror television show, Supernatural, uses a gender perspective to assess the stereotypes and female characters in the popular series. As part of this study 34 episodes of Supernatural and 19 female characters were analyzed. Findings indicate that while the target audience for Supernatural is women, the show tends to portray them in traditional, feminine, and horror genre stereotypes. The purpose of this thesis is twofold: 1) to provide a description of the types of female characters prevalent in the early seasons of Supernatural including mother-figures, victims, and monsters, and 2) to describe the changes that take place in the later seasons when the female characters no longer fit into feminine or horror stereotypes. Findings indicate that female characters of Supernatural have evolved throughout the seasons of the show and are more than just background characters in need of rescue. These findings are important because they illustrate that representations of women in television are not always based on stereotypes, and that the horror genre is evolving and beginning to depict strong female characters that are brave, intellectual leaders instead of victims being rescued by men. The female audience will be exposed to a more accurate portrayal of women to which they can relate and be inspired. Copyright © 2014 by Miranda B. Leddy All rights reserved TABLE OF CONTENTS Tables
