Match background Ludogorets • Two years ago, in the Bulgarian side's only previous group stage campaign, they lost all three away fixtures so their draw at FC Basel 1893 on matchday one represented an improvement. They led through Jonathan Cafú's goal before the hosts cancelled it out with 11 minutes remaining. • In 2014/15 Ludogorets picked up four points, beating Basel at home in what was the first-ever victory by a Bulgarian team in the competition. They also drew 2-2 with Liverpool FC. • After winning the Bulgarian title for the fifth season in a row, Ludogorets scored 15 goals in the qualifying campaign to book their return to the group stage. • They first dispatched FK Mladost Podgorica 2-0 at home and 3-0 away. Against FK Crvena zvezda they followed a 2-2 draw at home with a 4-2 extra-time victory away. Wanderson claimed three of the goals in that away leg. • In the play-offs, a 2-0 home success over FC Viktoria Plzeň set up a 4-2 aggregate triumph. Paris • Edinson Cavani's first-minute header against Arsenal FC on matchday one was Paris's fastest UEFA Champions League goal. The Gunners equalised late on and more disappointment arrived for the Parisians in added time when Marco Verratti, along with Oliver Giroud, was sent off. • The French champions, who have Unai Emery in charge after replacing Laurent Blanc in June, lost 3-2 on aggregate (0-1 away) to Manchester City FC in last spring's quarter-finals. It was the fourth consecutive year they met defeat at that stage. • In the group Paris scored 12 goals and conceded only one, in an away reversal against Real Madrid CF. • They won all three of their other away games in the competition – netting three without reply at FC Shakhtar Donetsk on matchday two and five at Malmö FF on matchday five. In the round of 16 they prevailed 2-1 at Chelsea FC after the same score at home. • Paris's first-ever match in UEFA competition came at Vasil Levski stadium 34 years ago with a 1982/83 European Cup Winners' Cup first-round tie against PFC Lokomotiv Sofia. They went down 1-0 in Sofia but won 5-1 at home; this is their first encounter with Bulgarian opponents since then. Coach and player links • Claudiu Keșerü played for FC Nantes (2004–10), Angers SCO (2010–13), and SC Bastia (2013/14). • Jesé came on as a substiture during Real Madrid's 4-0 home thrashing of Ludogorets in the UEFA Champions League group stage on 9 December 2014. Match facts Ludogorets • Ludogorets are nine matches unbeaten in all competitions, winning six of them. • Jonathan Cafú, on target twice in the 5-1 victory at Vereya on Friday, has scored four goals in his last three appearances. • On 20 September, the Eagles progressed to the last 16 of the Bulgarian Cup, defeating POFC Botev Vratsa 4-0 away from home. • Gustavo Campanharo scored his first goal for the club against Botev Vratsa. Paris • Paris lost 2-0 at Toulouse FC on Friday.     Zeitreisen auf dem Balkan (von Christian Troyke) Jedes Jahr findet Anfang Dezember die Europäische Blitz- und Schnellschachmeisterschaft statt, für gewöhnlich in einem ost- bzw. südosteuropäischem Land. So waren wir in den vergangenen beiden Jahren bereits in Tallinn/Estland und Katowice/Polen. In diesem Jahr wurde die Meisterschaft für den 06. bis 09. Dezember nach Skopje in Mazedonien vergeben. Schnell war für uns (Cliff Walther, Doreen & Christian Troyke) klar, dass wir da auch wieder hin müssen. Zunächst stellte sich die Frage, wie wir die Anreise gestalten. Selbstverständlich gibt es auch Direktflüge nach Skopje, aber das wäre natürlich viel zu einfach. Es galt insbesondere die Frage zu beantworten, ob ein solcher Trip auf den Balkan nicht auch gleich noch mit dem Besuch eines oder mehrerer Fußballspiele verknüpft werden kann. Cliff fehlte nämlich noch der bulgarische Länderpunkt. Den weniger Fußball-affinen Lesern sei hier verraten, dass ein Länderpunkt der Besuch eines Fußballspiels in einem beliebigen Land der Erde ist. Nur aktives Mitglied der FIFA muss dieses Land sein...und Bulgarien fehlte Cliff zu unserer Überraschung tatsächlich noch. Also haben wir einen Hin- und Rückflug von Frankfurt/M. nach Sofia gebucht, mit Lufthansa und pro Person unter 100 Euro – da kann man nicht meckern. Groß war dann auch die Freude als bekannt wurde, dass am 04.12. in Plovdiv das Stadtderby zwischen Lok Plovdiv und Botev Plovdiv in der ersten bulgarischen Liga stattfindet. Mein guter Kumpel Georgi ist wohnhaft in Sofia, seine Heimatstadt ist jedoch Plovdiv und es war für ihn kein Problem, die Eintrittskarten für uns zu organisieren.
