The session was well attended by domestic A staff from both Phase 1 and Phase 2.

The purpose of the Domestics Forum was to create security awareness in the run-up to the Festive Season.

The lectures covered various aspects, including: 1. The current crime situation and which crimes are prevalent in the area. 2. The methods being used by criminals to commit crimes at houses and out in the streets. 3. What to look out for – suspicious people, irregular activities and suspicious vehicles. 4. Basic fi rst aid on drowning, wound care and choking. 5. An informative talk was done by the 24/7 Security K9 Manager on how to care for the dogs of the homeowners, how to walk with them, feed them and give them basic care.

The talk by the K9 manager was very well received as many domestic staff care for animals.

All the attendees found the forum informative and helpful, and requested that 24/7 Security Services conduct these sessions at regular intervals. O cer of the Month

his was the last event for 2019 and what a wonderful day we had! The children were T absolutely enthralled by Darin the magician, who has become an integral part of our Children’s Christmas Party! When Father Christmas arrived, the excitement boiled over and all the little ones stormed over to welcome him to Fourways Gardens. They patiently waited in line to sit on his lap and tell him what they wanted for Christmas. The funniest part was the look some of the kids gave their parents when Father Christmas asked if they were good? It was a defi nite “please don’t tell him mom” look!

The party was followed by Carols in the Park. We invited Veronique Lallouette to lead us in song and what a phenomenal voice she had! The only complaint on the night was that her performance should have been longer as she truly entertained us on the night! She had the kids up on the stage dancing and singing with her and even performed an impromptu version of the shark song, as requested by a little girl. We will defi nitely invite her back to Fourways Gardens Estate!

Our sincere thanks to Gay Cawood Properties for co-sponsoring the event with the HOA. Gaye and her team were once again superb with beautifying our stage and park area for the enjoyment of our residents. As co-organisers, we could not have asked for more!! We hope you enjoy the photos of this very special day!

info@fb properti es.co.za www.fb properti es.co.za 011 705 2384 / 083 678 8001 Estate News WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON? I’m working on watercolour animal portraits at the moment, as well as a large chrysanthemum in oils. I draw for at least an hour a day in my sketchbook, so there is always something new brewing. Because I am teaching art from my home throughout the day, I’m always surrounded by wonderful, creative people. I learn as much from my students as they do from me. It doesn’t matter whether they are seven or 70, there is give and take on both sides.

YOUR FUTURE GOALS/WISHLIST My only goal is to keep learning more so I can share my knowledge with my students and also improve my own work.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE SUBJECTS AND MEDIUM? I constantly come back to fl owers because even the smallest, simplest one is so incredible. Drawing will always be my fi rst love so I’m happiest with a pencil in my hand.

WHICH OTHER ARTISTS’ WORK DO YOU APPRECIATE? Gerard Sekoto, Vincent Van Gogh, Nelson Makamo, Friedensreich Hunderwasser, Gustav Klimt, William Kentridge, Diane Victor, Banksy and Paul Klee.

WHAT TIPS AND ADVICE DO YOU HAVE ON USING OR/ WORKING IN YOUR FAVOURITE MEDIUM? No matter which medium you are using, you need patience. Most drawings and paintings are built up in layers, so take your time and keep going. Take a break if you need to, but don’t quit.

WHAT GENERAL /USEFUL TIPS DO YOU HAVE FOR ARTISTS FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE? Keep practising. Drawing and painting are totally learnable skills. You might not become a Kentridge or a Da Vinci, but if you keep Open door. Open day. practising you WILL improve!

If there is one fault to the SQ5, it's that it has obviously fake exhaust tips. Why, Audi?

One of the highlights of the Audi SQ5 has to be the cabin where its phenomenal build quality is highlighted through the extensive use of premium materials such as soft leathers and aluminium/carbon trim. It’s also quite the tech fest when optioned with enough features, such as

Once you’ve passed the overwhelming sense of power that the SQ5 has, you can move on to how it handles itself on and off-road. The test car was fi tted with the optional adaptive air suspension which is a must-have. It’s capable of raising the suspension by 45mm for light off-roading.

I found the SQ5 to be extremely comfortable around town and even more so when cruising at highway speed where it feels best suited. That isn’t to say that things don’t get lively. Flick it into dynamic mode and the SQ5 turns into a different animal, the steering gets heavier, the throttle becomes sharper and the gearbox shifts harder. nurture and/ or to leave a legacy. Love is something that is often misinterpreted as security, fl attery, infatuation or the need to feel needed. Perhaps it was from a need to be loved that we smother, or from a need to be heard that we become overbearing, or from a need for power that we become the dictators in our homes, or perhaps from a traumatic childhood that we lash out - and all this in the name of love. Then perhaps if we had to love a little less, we can create some space between our inner-demons and our children. After all, our children are not our property. We have done well as a parent when our children learn to become responsible for themselves.

Conscious parenting is a purposeful journey of recognising and overcoming our fears and failures, and then becoming a more complete and fulfi lled person whilst bringing up and supporting our children to then become complete and fulfi lled people in turn.

However, one of the most iconic Citroëns to come out of the factory was the Citroën DS that was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1955. It made history when, within 45 minutes of its unveiling, 750 orders had been placed and, by the end of the show, they had sold almost 80 000 vehicles.

With its space age look and Avant Garde interior, the DS seemed like it had come straight out a science fi ction movie. In South Africa, the French car manufacturers joined other international companies that enforced sanctions in an attempt to compel the then government to abolish its despised Apartheid policies. Most international brands left, with the result that we missed out on a whole chunk of innovation and progress, and Citroën lost an enormous amount of market share.
