Nous traiterons de l'album en le réintégrant dans son contexte originel (anecdotes, etc.) ... Une chronique qui se veut 100% "passionnée" et "nostalgique" et qui nous l'espérons, vous fera réagir par le biais des commentaires ! ...... Bon voyage ! Nous allons, en cette année 2011 commémorer les (déjà !) 20 ans de la disparition de Freddie MERCURY. Freddie MERCURY est décédé à Londres le 24 Novembre 1991 à l'âge de 45 ans ! Il est pour moi une des plus belles voix du Rock du XXième siècle et QUEEN un des meilleurs groupes de Rock depuis sa création en 1970 ! Made In Heaven est l'ultime et 15ième album du groupe et sort en 1995 ! Il offre les derniers enregistrements vocaux de Freddie MERCURY de 1991 et d’ébauches mises de côté lors des enregistrements précédents. En outre, du matériel retravaillé issu de l’album solo de Freddie MERCURY, Mr Bad Guy et un morceau déjà sorti dans le cadre du projet annexe THE CROSS de Roger TAYLOR (Heaven For Everyone) y sont ajoutés. J'avoue avoir laissé de côté cet album, accroché au sublime Innuendo, qui pour moi était le vrai testament musical de Freddie MERCURY ! Et pourtant, je viens enfin de découvrir en 2011 cet album... Hé oui, je garde quelques joyaux à portée d'écoutes ultérieurs... Je ne sais pas si les 20 ans qui nous séparent de la mort de Freddie y sont pour quelques chose mais je suis bouleversé par cet album ! Il est pour moi d'une grande humilité et qualité, finesse d'écriture et intelligence grâce à l'hommage que rendent à Freddie ses compères de toujours, John DEACON, le bassiste, Roger TAYLOR le batteur et Brian MAY, le guitariste de QUEEN ! Et puis, il y a ces clins d'oeil à et de l'artiste, le Mama qui se pose sur l'introduction It's A Beautifull Day rappelle terriblement Bohemian Rhapsody, le passage live sur Mother Love est sublime. Let Me Live, chanté en duo avec Roger TAYLOR et appuyé par des choeurs gospel est merveilleux ! Nous retrouvons aussi une nouvelle version du Too Much Love Will Kill You (que de symboles et de feelings !!!) qui figure sur l'album Back To The Light de Brian MAY (1991) ! Il y a aussi cette nouvelle version de I Was Born To Love You du Mr Bad Guy de Freddie © www.metal-integral.com 9/25/21, 3:46 PM MERCURY sur lequel apparaît subtilement un phrasé du célèbre Living On My Own ! Et que dire de la sensualité de ce très pop You Don't Fool Me, absolument dantesque ! Bref, vous l'aurez compris, la découverte de cet album cette année 2011 est une révélation de l'intelligence, de l'humilité, de la fraternité, de la tendresse qui se dégagent de cet opus ! La plage de fin, masquée au demeurant est peut-être le seul bémol de cet album, 22 minutes et 32 secondes d'une sorte de vide est un peu étrange ! Quant à la pochette, elle offre la paix que tout amoureux de la nature peut ressentir devant un lac de montagne...en Suisse ou ailleurs... Un album qui ne pouvait qu'être dédicacé à l'esprit immortel de Freddie MERCURY, touché par la grâce ! La reine est morte, vive la reine ! The Show Must Go On... LOVE STUFF Frank and fearless, tender and rowdy, Elle King’s debut album, LOVE STUFF marks the true arrival of the young singer/songwriter/guitarist/banjoist as a pop force to be reckoned with. “I always thought I knew who I was,” says King, “but now I’m really learning what kind of person I want to be. Bulletin of the Transilvania University of Brașov Series IV: Philology and Cultural Studies • Vol. 12 (61) No. 1 – 2019 https://doi.org/10.31926/but.pcs.2019.61.12.7 Queer in Queen: Camp aesthetics and queer performativity in Queen’s music videos Ileana BOTESCU-SIREȚEANU1 The present paper situates its concerns at the crossroads of cultural studies, queer studies and visual culture in an effort to illustrate how queer identity is visually performed and formed through a particular aesthetic discourse that foregrounds kitsch, excess and self-conscious parody. Consecrated by Susan Sontag in 1964 as camp aesthetics, this visual discourse generates artistic acts whose major goal is to reach beyond ideological categories, hierarchies, dichotomies in order to destabilize their authority. This study focuses on some of Queen’s music videos in an attempt to argue that they represent clear instances of camp visuality designed by the band’s front man, Freddie Mercury, as part of a therapeutic artistic form of coping with his own queerness. In this respect, the present paper explores the connections between these particular visual representations and their potential to destabilize traditional master narratives such as heteronormativity. Keywords: visual culture, camp aesthetics, the politics of queerness, gender discourse, difference, stereotype. 1. Introduction The recently released, much acclaimed yet highly controversial Queen biopic, the 2018 Bohemian Rhapsody, has helped refuel the world’s interest in an already historic rock band that needs no further introduction.
