3 Sporting Clube de Portugal - Olympiacos FC Wednesday 22 November 2017 - 20.45CET (19.45 local time) Match press kit José Alvalade, Lisbon Match background

Sporting Clube de Portugal welcome Olympiacos FC to Lisbon knowing that a point will prolong their European season. • The Portuguese side, who won 3-2 in Piraeus on matchday one, have four points to lie third in Group D, with FC Barcelona top on ten points, three ahead of Juventus. Sporting will remain in contention if they win but will be unable to be finish in the top two if they lose, or if they draw and Juve do not lose at home to Barça. A draw clinches at least third place for Sporting. • Olympiacos have picked up just one point from their four games so far and must win and hope Juventus lose to stay in contention for a top-two finish. If Olympiacos do not win they will finish fourth. Match background Sporting CP • Sporting's only experience of Greek opposition prior to matchday one was a 4-1 home win against Panionios GSS in the 2004/05 UEFA Cup group stage. • The Lisbon club have won only one of their last seven European home games, losing four. In Group D they were beaten 1-0 by Barcelona on matchday two before a 1-1 draw against Juventus in their most recent fixture. • The Portuguese team were 5-1 aggregate winners against Romania's FCSB in the play-offs, following up a 0-0 home draw with a 5-1 success in Bucharest. That victory in Romania ended Sporting's four-game losing streak in European away matches. • Sporting are in the group stage for a third time in four seasons. In 2016/17, they came fourth in their section behind Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid CF and Legia Warszawa. • Sporting qualified by finishing third in the Portuguese Liga in 2016/17. Olympiacos • The Greek outfit won on their last visit to Portugal, recording a 1-0 victory at FC Arouca in last season's UEFA Europa League play-offs – their first success in the country. They are unbeaten in their last two trips (W1 D1); overall, their record away to Portuguese clubs is W1 D2 L4. • Olympiacos succumbed 2-0 at Juventus on matchday two and went down 3-1 at Barcelona in their third fixture but have won three of their last six European away games, including the first two this season. In their last UEFA Champions League group campaign, in 2015/16, they won two of their three away fixtures. • Olympiacos opened this season with a 5-3 aggregate success over FK Partizan in the third qualifying round (3-1 away, 2-2 home). They then got the better of HNK Rijeka in the play-offs, coming through 2-1 at home and 1-0 away. • Olympiacos are in the group stage for an 18th time. They lost to Hapoel Beer-Sheva FC in last season's third qualifying round, the first time they had missed out on the UEFA Champions League group stage since 2010/11. • In 2016/17, the Greek side went on to make the UEFA Europa League round of 16, falling 5-2 on aggregate to Beşiktaş JK. • The Piraeus club earned a place in this season's qualifying rounds by lifting their 44th Greek championship in 2016/17 – their seventh in a row. Marcos Acuña and Bruno Fernandes are both a booking away from a ban. • A penalty by Bruno Fernandes – his seventh goal of the season – in injury time saved the Lions from a first league defeat as they drew 2-2 at home to SC Braga on 5 November. • Sporting have won only two of their last seven games at home in all competitions (D4, L1). • Sporting have won only four of their last 11 games in all competitions (D5, L2), having started the season with eight wins in nine matches. • Sporting have scored 15 goals in 11 home games in all competitions this season; away from home they have 25 goals in nine matches. • Bas Dost has scored five goals in his last three league games and was also on target in Thursday's 2-0 Portuguese Cup round of 32 win against second-tier FC Famalicão. • Dost and Acuña were both substituted due to injury in the match against Braga. Dost started and scored on Thursday verus Famalicão but Acuña has been ruled out for the rest of the month with a thigh injury. • Jérémy Mathieu, and Cristiano Piccini have not played since the match against Rio Ave FC on 27 October due to injury through Fábio Coentrão made his first appearance since then against Famalicão. • Alan Ruiz returned from injury while Stefan Ristovski made his league debut against Braga. • Bruno Fernandes came off the bench to make his debut for Portugal in the 3-0 friendly defeat of Saudi Arabia on 10 November. He was in the starting XI for the first time, alongside club colleague Gelson Martins, four days later in the 1-1 draw against the United States. Olympiacos • Omar Elabdellaoui, Alaixys Romao and Diogo Figueiras are all a booking away from a ban. • Olympiacos have lost four of their last six games away from home, conceding 12 goals in the process. • Felipe Pardo has scored three goals in his past three outings, including one six minutes into his first start for Colombia in a 4-0 victory over China on 14 November. He won his second and third caps this month, two years after his debut. • Sebá underwent arthroscopy surgery on his knee on 21 October but both he and Alberto Botía, who suffered a minor knock on his foot before the international break, took part in Saturday's 2-1 defeat of Levadiakos FC. • Kostas Fortounis and Panagiotis Tachtsidis featured in both legs as Greece lost 4-1 to Croatia in the FIFA World Cup play-offs. • El Fardou Ben Nabouhane has not played since suffering a hip problem on 1 October. • Emmanuel Emenike spent a week in Bologna during the international break, receiving treatment on a knee injury that has hampered him for the past month.

8 Sporting Clube de Portugal - Olympiacos FC Wednesday 22 November 2017 - 20.45CET (19.45 local time) Match press kit José Alvalade, Lisbon Head coach Jorge Jesus Date of birth: 24 July 1954 Nationality: Portuguese Playing Career: Sporting Clube de Portugal, GD Peniche, SC Olhanense, CF Os Belenenses, GD Riopele, Juventude SC, UD Leiria, Vitória FC, SC Farense, CF Estrela da Amadora, Benfica e Castelo Branco, SR Almancilense Coaching career: Amora FC, FC Felgueiras, CF Estrela da Amadora (twice), Vitória FC, Vitória SC, Moreirense FC, UD Leiria, CF Os Belenenses, SC Braga, SL Benfica, Sporting Clube de Portugal • A midfielder at Sporting, Jesus enjoyed a long if low-key career with a number of smaller Portuguese sides before moving into coaching with fourth division Amora after hanging up his boots in 1989, leading them to a title. Then led Felgueiras from the third division to the Liga in successive seasons, though they were relegated in his third campaign in 1995/96. • Further Liga experience came at hometown side Estrela da Amadora, Setúbal and Guimarães, though he endured another relegation with Moreirense in 2004/05. In 2006/07, he guided Belenenses to fifth place and the Portuguese Cup final, where despite losing to Sporting they earned a place in the UEFA Cup. • Even better followed at Braga in 2008/09 as he guided them to UEFA Intertoto Cup success and subsequently the UEFA Cup round of 16. A fifth-place Liga finish prompted Benfica to lure him back to Lisbon in 2009 and Jesus rewarded their faith with the league title and League Cup in his debut campaign. • After completing a hat-trick of Portuguese League Cup triumphs in 2012, Jesus's Benfica came tantalisingly close to an even bigger treble in 2013, only to finish runners-up in both the Portuguese Liga and Cup and lose the UEFA Europa League final to Chelsea FC. • Signed a two-year contract extension in June 2013 and led Benfica to another UEFA Europa League final the following season, although they again lost, this time to Sevilla FC. That disappointment was somewhat soothed by a clean sweep of the three domestic trophies, with another league and League Cup secured in 2014/15, during which Jesus became the Benfica coach with the most victories and the most league matches. Unexpectedly left to join Sporting in June 2015, taking the club to the Liga's runners-up spot in his first season – behind Benfica – and third the following year. Takis Lemonis Date of birth: 13 January 1960 Nationality: Greek Playing career: Olympiacos FC, Levadiakos FC, Ionikos FC, Panionios GSS, Ethnikos Piraeus FC Coaching career: Asteras Zografou FC, Olympiacos FC (four times), APOEL FC, Kallithea FC, Levadiakos FC, Skoda Xanthi FC, Panionios GSS, AC Omonia, Panetolikis FC, Levadiakos FC, Al-Raed FC • Born in Athens, Lemonis joined Olympiacos as a midfielder in 1978 from local club APO Attikos; between then and 1987 he won five league titles and two caps for Greece, prior to spells at Levadiakos, Panionios, Ionikos and Ethnikos Piraeus. • Studied coaching in England before taking his first job at modest Asteras Zografou in 1996; returned to Olympiacos for the first time in 2000 as assistant coach, but was given the top job in November that year following the dismissal of Ioannis Matzourakis, winning titles in his two seasons in charge. • After a stint in Cyprus, and spells with several other Greek clubs, Lemonis started a second spell at Olympiacos in December 2006, winning two more titles before moving on again in 2008. • Subsequent adventures included a Cypriot title with Omonia in 2009/10. He celebrated a fifth Greek title with Olympiacos in 2016/17 after being brought back to the club in March 2017, and returned for a fourth spell in September the same year, following the departure of Besnik Hasi.

UEFA Champions League: Did you know? • In 2012/13, Chelsea became the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage). In 1992/93, Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and lost 4-3 on aggregate in the second round to CSKA Moskva. • In 2016/17 Real Madrid became the first team to successfully defended the UEFA Champions League trophy, with Milan (1989, 1990) the previous club to win consecutive European Cups. Milan (1994, 1995), Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and Manchester United (2008, 2009) have all returned to the UEFA Champions League final as holders only to lose. • Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League having featured against Real Madrid on matchday six in 2007/08 aged 43 years and 252 days. Alessandro Costacurta is the oldest outfield player; the Milan defender was 40 years and 211 days when he played against AEK Athens in 2006/07. • Francesco Totti is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 38 years and 59 days, in Roma's 1-1 draw at CSKA Moskva on 25 November 2014. Ryan Giggs (37 years 290 days) was the previous record holder. • Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared; he was 16 years and 87 days when he started for Anderlecht against Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was sent off in the 37th minute. • Peter Ofori-Quaye is the youngest player to have scored in the UEFA Champions League, aged 17 years and 195 days. He found the net in Olympiacos's 5-1 defeat at Rosenborg on 1 October 1997. • Lionel Messi became the first player to score five goals in a match in Barcelona's 7-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen on 7 March 2012, a feat matched by Shakhtar Donetsk's Luiz Adriano at BATE Borisov on 21 October 2014. Eleven more players, also including Messi, have scored four times in a game, most recently for Real Madrid CF on matchday six in 2015/16. • Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for a UEFA Champions League stage with 11 goals in 2015/16, eclipsing his own mark of nine goals in 2013/14, which Luiz Adriano matched in 2014/15. Lionel Messi got ten goals in 2016/17; Zlatan Ibrahimović (2013/14), Ruud van Nistelrooy (2004/05), Filippo Inzaghi and Hernán Crespo (both 2002/03) managed eight. • Messi's hat-trick on matchday three of the 2016/17 competition was his seventh in the competition, a record Ronaldo matched against Club Atlético de Madrid in the 2016/17 semi-finals. • Barcelona have finished as group winners on 18 occasions, three more than Real Madrid and four more than Manchester United and FC Bayern München. • Bayern München (2 April 2013 to 27 November 2013) and Real Madrid (23 April 2014 to 18 February 2015) jointly hold the record for successive wins in the UEFA Champions League proper with ten. Bayern surpassed the previous mark of nine, set by Barcelona between 18 September 2002 and 18 February 2003. • Six teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93), Paris Saint-Germain (1994/95), Spartak Moskva (1995/96), Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage) and Real Madrid (2011/12 and 2014/15). • Nineteen teams have gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without picking up a single point, most recently Club Brugge KV and GNK Dinamo Zagreb in 2016/17. • Borussia Dortmund set a new group stage record by scoring 21 goals in 2016/17, eclipsing the old mark of 20 by Manchester United (1998/99), Barcelona (2011/12, 2016/17) and Real Madrid (2013/14). • Only Deportivo La Coruña (2004/05), Maccabi Haifa (2009/10) and Dinamo Zagreb (2016/17) have failed to score in a group stage. • BATE Borisov conceded 24 goals in 2014/15, a new record which was matched by Legia Warszawa in 2016/17. The previous mark, 22, was held by Dinamo Zagreb (2011/12) and Nordsjælland (2012/13); Malmö FF shipped 21 in 2015/16. • No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93), Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea (2005/06), Liverpool (2005/06), Villarreal (2005/06), Manchester United (2010/11), Monaco (2014/15) and Paris Saint-Germain (2015/16) all let in just one. • Before their 3-1 win against Sporting Clube de Portugal on matchday six of the 2006/07 campaign, Spartak Moskva went 22 games without a victory in the competition, a mark FCSB surpassed on matchday six in 2013/14.

16 Sporting Clube de Portugal - Olympiacos FC Wednesday 22 November 2017 - 20.45CET (19.45 local time) Match press kit José Alvalade, Lisbon • RSC Anderlecht hold the unwanted record for successive defeats in the competition, group stage to final, having lost 12 in a row between December 2003 and November 2005. GNK Dinamo Zagreb are next with 11 consecutive losses on two occasions, from September 2011 to December 2012 and again from 29 September 2015 onwards. • The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is six points: Zenit in 2013/14 and AS Roma in 2015/16. Since three points for a win was introduced in 1995/96, eight teams have made it through with seven points: Legia Warszawa (1995/96), Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Liverpool (2001/02), Lokomotiv Moskva and eventual finalists Juventus (both 2002/03), Rangers and Werder Bremen (2005/06) and Basel 1893 (2014/15). • Napoli failed to qualify from their group with 12 points in 2013/14, the highest total of any team not to reach the next stage when the top two in each section progressed. Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Borussia Dortmund (2002/03 – both second group stage), PSV Eindhoven (2003/04), Olympiacos and Dynamo Kyiv (both 2004/05), Werder Bremen (2006/07), Manchester City (2011/12), Chelsea and CFR 1907 Cluj (both 2012/13), Benfica (2013/14) and FC Porto (2015/16) all missed out with ten points. • Only two teams have ever won the UEFA Champions League on home soil: Borussia Dortmund (1997, final in Munich) and Juventus (1996, final in Rome), while Manchester United lost the 2011 final in London and 12 months later Bayern were beaten in the showpiece in their own stadium, the Fußball Arena München.
