Starting next year, Phoenix Racing and KC Motorgroup (KCMG) will be offering their services, while Absolute Racing as the series’ partner from day one continues to be on board. The two new service partners bring a wealth of racing experience to the series. Ernst Moser’s Team Phoenix Racing has won the DTM twice and the Nürburgring 24 Hours four times. The former Cup winner Marchy Lee will be integrated into the organization of Phoenix Racing Asia. Paul Ip’s KCMG company based in Hong Kong decided the LMP2 class in the Le Mans 24 Hours in its favor this year, as well as the Formula Masters China Series. Ingo Matter is the team boss of Absolute Racing – the squad that has been fielding Audi’s GT3 race cars for the cup entrants since 2012. This year, the race will be held from 30 to 31 July. Audi is now going to meet with fierce competition again and is represented by more customer racing teams than ever before. The brand with the four rings has won three of the past five editions and clinched the ‘Coupe du Roi’ manufacturers’ cup in 2014 and 2015. The origins of the race date back to 1924, since 1964, it has been held regularly and today it is the endurance race with the largest number of GT3 race cars in the world. “65 race cars from eleven marques on a track which is an absolute dream. This is a first-class challenge,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. “For the many Audi fans in Belgium, the worldwide GT community as well as our customer teams and the drivers, the 24 Hours of Spa is again the season’s pinnacle event this year.” Four teams will be fielding a total of eleven Audi GT3 race cars and 36 drivers will be taking turns in the cockpits. In its so far most successful endurance race season the customer sport race car from Audi is to fight for another victory there. Overall victory at the Bathurst 12 Hours in Australia in February, at the 24-hour race at Spa in Belgium in July and at the Zolder 24 Hours in September plus class victory at the Nürburgring 24 Hours in June – this almost automatically sets the goal for the last major endurance race of the Audi R8 LMS this season: In Malaysia the customer sport race car of which more than 40 units have been sold worldwide to date is to prove its qualities in front of Asian prospects by clinching another victory. Last year Frank Biela/Darryl O’Young/Marco Werner celebrated second place at the first run of the Audi R8 LMS in this race. All three drivers are part of the grid again this year, albeit in a different formation. Looking back at the past 12 months, we’ve enjoyed some superb racing across the world. Our in-house championships are thriving and we’ve proven to be a force to be reckoned with once again in the GT and Prototype arenas. At home, all five of our championships were decided at their season finale, proving the close and competitive nature of our domestic grids. It was also a real pleasure to see graduates from our championships have international success too. We have been following Lando Norris’ career with earnest since he moved on from the Ginetta Juniors. He claimed the FIA Formula LAWRENCE 3 European Championship in 2017 and we are certain we’ll see him in an F1 car TOMLINSON before too long. Ginetta Chairman The Ginetta G55 GT4 car continues to be the most successful GT4 car ever built. It’s knocking on the door of 100 international victories at the time of writing and we’re hoping to cross that milestone with yet another class victory in the 2018 Dubai 24 Hours.
