Headmaster's Welcome No: 1268 w w w.yar m school .or g | 26th Mar ch 2021 Headmaster's Welcome If there is a theme in this newsletter, full to the brim as it is with descriptions of opportunities seized by the pupils, then it seems to me that the theme is enrichment. Having tried to give a summary of the term's highlights in my assembly yesterday, I was struck again by how much has been going on in the busy lives of our pupils, and it is a real pleasure to reflect on that in the newsletter once again. Examples of this include the news of our being (re-)awarded the Green Flag - well done to all involved. We read about engagement in a national History conference, virtual reality theatre, success in physics olympiads, opportunities to engage in careers, book reviews, concerts, advice from and engagement with former pupils, progress through the DofE scheme and the culmination of this year's Yarm Apprentice. In the absence of visiting speakers giving lectures that offer another avenue to enrich the lives of our pupils, some departments have coordinated video conference meetings with external speakers and we continue to be grateful for the ongoing contributions of our former pupils. We know that pupils have shown motivation and independence in their work during lockdown, and we want to harness the momentum they have built up. Mr Williams has coordinated a new Enrichment Hub site, with each department selecting resources that will entice the pupils to explore the subject in more depth, or to recognise the real-world application and relevance of a particular subject. Given the fascinating range of talks, films and resources collated in one place, I recommend this site to anyone! Details below. The resumption of House Competition in rugby, hockey and netball has been great to see and hear, and the Games Department give a detailed report on progress to this point. Well done to all pupils for representing their House and competing so enthusiastically. On a sporting theme, we have just had confirmation that two former pupils have been selected to compete for Oxford and Cambridge respectively in the women's Boat Race this year - we wish Katie and Sarah the best of luck. I wish all families a restful and productive Easter holiday, and thank my colleagues and congratulate the pupils once again for their efforts this term. Dr Huw Williams 5 Eco-Schools Green Flag Awards charging infrastructure on-site. • The Benefice Profile of Yarm with Kirklevington, Picton and Worsall
The Benefice Profile of Yarm with Kirklevington, Picton and Worsall St Mary Magdalene, Yarm Aerial photographs taken by Harry Brown All Saints, Worsall A message from the Rt Revd Paul Ferguson, Bishop of Whitby Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the post of Rector of Yarm with Kirklevington, Picton and Worsall. This post offers exciting possibilities for ministry in a varied town-and-country setting. As you will read in these pages, this is a benefice of two parishes comprising the market town of Yarm and a group of nearby villages. This relatively new grouping was formed under the leadership of the previous Rector, Canon John Ford, who was also Area Dean and who retired in 2020. The communities are conscious of their very long history — Yarm is an ancient fording place over the River Tees, and the villages have been the source of a wealth of Saxon and Anglo-Danish archaeology — but they are not in any sense locked into the past. Retail and education are key to their economy and culture; rural industry still has a significant part to play, and there is extensive new house-building and an increasing population. The new Rector will find a secure foundation to build on, willing and able lay leaders, and a shared commitment to worship well planned and led in a generally liberal Catholic style. Although there is mention in this profile of concern that congregations are ageing, in fact there is more involvement with families and younger people, and with external institutions, than would be found in many other places.

  • Physical Education Job Description 300321
YARM SCHOOL Teacher of Physical Education & Girls’ Games (Years 7-13) The Candidate Applications are invited for a well-qualified Teacher of Physical Education & Girls’ Games from September 2021. This post is a full-time position. It would particularly suit an NQT. We would also welcome applications from well-qualified, committed graduates who would like to train as a Physical Education teacher. The ability and desire to teach academic Physical Education to GCSE and A Level standard would be an advantage. Aside from a passion for teaching Physical Education, candidates should be keen to contribute to the broader life of the school through cultural, sporting or other extra-curricular activities. This is an expectation for all teachers at the school. Yarm School offers the Secondary PGCE with QTS in association with the University of Buckingham. This award is of exactly the same standing as the PGCEs awarded by university education departments or the direct training schemes run by state schools. It qualifies students to teach in any maintained or independent school in the country. If you wish to discuss this opportunity further please contact the Deputy Head Academic, Mr Darren Morton, for further information ([email protected]). Outline details of how we support the training process at Yarm School can be found in our Teaching Training Booklet. Physical Education & Games at Yarm School Sport at Yarm School forms an important part of both the curriculum and extra-curricular activity. Pupils receive both PE and Games lessons in the timetable and many choose sporting options as their two Activity lessons. After school and at weekends, we run a programme of sporting fixtures against similar schools: there is always a weekly practice in building towards fixtures.

Congratulations to all North East schools and students who are receiving their results today. We have been hearing some fantastic stories for individual schools, with many reporting record results this year. The regional picture At this stage there is limited data available to show the full regional picture, however figures from the Joint Qualifications Council show the North East has reflected the national trend with a decline in overall improvement in results. Improvements at grade A in the region have fallen by 1.4 per cent and 2.1 per cent at grade C. Between 2002 and 2012 the North East had the second highest rate of overall improvement at grade A at 6.9 per cent and the highest rate of overall improvement at grade C at 15.7 per cent.
