No: 1268 w w w.yar m school .or g | 26th Mar ch 2021 Headmaster's Welcome If there is a theme in this newsletter, full to the brim as it is with descriptions of opportunities seized by the pupils, then it seems to me that the theme is enrichment. Having tried to give a summary of the term's highlights in my assembly yesterday, I was struck again by how much has been going on in the busy lives of our pupils, and it is a real pleasure to reflect on that in the newsletter once again. Examples of this include the news of our being (re-)awarded the Green Flag - well done to all involved. We read about engagement in a national History conference, virtual reality theatre, success in physics olympiads, opportunities to engage in careers, book reviews, concerts, advice from and engagement with former pupils, progress through the DofE scheme and the culmination of this year's Apprentice. In the absence of visiting speakers giving lectures that offer another avenue to enrich the lives of our pupils, some departments have coordinated video conference meetings with external speakers and we continue to be grateful for the ongoing contributions of our former pupils. We know that pupils have shown motivation and independence in their work during lockdown, and we want to harness the momentum they have built up. Mr Williams has coordinated a new Enrichment Hub site, with each department selecting resources that will entice the pupils to explore the subject in more depth, or to recognise the real-world application and relevance of a particular subject. Given the fascinating range of talks, films and resources collated in one place, I recommend this site to anyone! Details below. The resumption of House Competition in rugby, hockey and netball has been great to see and hear, and the Games Department give a detailed report on progress to this point. Well done to all pupils for representing their House and competing so enthusiastically. On a sporting theme, we have just had confirmation that two former pupils have been selected to compete for Oxford and Cambridge respectively in the women's Boat Race this year - we wish Katie and Sarah the best of luck. I wish all families a restful and productive Easter holiday, and thank my colleagues and congratulate the pupils once again for their efforts this term. Dr Huw Williams
