CHANTE SPEIDEL MISS MANITO AHBEE YOUTH AMBASSADOR 2017 / 2018

Tansi! Han mitakuyepi, anpetu kin cante mawaste na napeciyuzapi. Cunku luta Wiconi Waste Win lakoliyapi emaciyapi. Wasicu caje mitwa Chante Speidel. Hello my friends and relatives, on this day with a good heart I extend a hearty handshake to each of you. My given name is Chante Speidel and my Lakota name is Good Red Road of Life Woman. I am from treaty four territory of the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation. I am the daughter of Deanna Speidel and Donald Speidel, my mother is a member of the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation and my father is from the Standing Rock Sioux tribe. As the youth ambassador for Miss Manito Ahbee, my goal was to promote learning about culture, language and bring awareness to MMIWG (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls), and share the memory and loss of Lorna Blacksmith. I have met so many families of missing and murdered women and girls that touched my heart and shared stories with me about their lost loved ones. I also had the chance to meet many different youth ambassadors from all over Canada and the USA. I would like to thank all the talented ribbon skirt makers who helped me during this year, as I committed to wear a ribbon skirt everyday to honor MMIWG. I am entirely grateful I had the opportunity to represent Miss Manito Ahbee all over “Powwow Country”. Also very thankful for all the experiences it brought me this year and the knowledge I know I have from this title. I went far and near to bring awareness for this title and have worn ribbons skirts everyday. I am so happy I made it this far and hopefully have impacted many. With this title I had the opportunity to share that Indigenous peoples are leaders and role models. This was one amazing year full of memories and great people. I can not wait to see who the next young lady is to have the privilege of carrying this title in 2018-19. Lastly I honor the Lorna Blacksmith family and thank the powwow committee for all the hospitality, kindness and support. Hope each and every single one of you enjoy the celebration and good luck to all the singers and dancers. Thank you to those who help me along the way and the dancers who participated in my special. I am very proud to be part of Manito Ahbee Pidamaya.

As many people in the Pow Wow community know, there aren’t too many things to keep the young ones occupied between dancing. New Directions will provide a safe, easy and accessible place for children to go. They will set up craft tables for children to create beautiful works of art. All children (and parents) are welcome to stop by and make something beautiful. New Directions Opikihiwawin Program Powwow – September 8, 2018 Thank you from the Staff and Volunteers at New Directions.
